Might I suggest World in Conflict. And if you don't like the rock-paper-scissors style of it, here's a wonderful mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/wicmw
The Total War games are fun.
I've tried both Men of War and Theater of War, I don't care for either too much, but hey, you asked.
Dawn of War is fun. Think DoW2 but more army/base building. When I first played DoW2 it felt like a mix between Dawn of War and some RPG.

Thanks Trooper i have all the original DoW games, i'm in the same boat as you i don't care for men of war really. i also tried the demos for some total war games and there confusing to me like the campaign of it(i was doing demo) then i also tried the World in Conflict demo which i didn't understand either all my guys died like right away and the points it wouldn't let me capture them. I'm gonna look at the mod though.

I'm a huge fan of old school RTS games like AoE II and AoE, if you happen to have AoE II and Conquerors I suggest getting the Age of Hegemony:Chivalry mod for it, really makes the game much more fun. Also I suggest Europa Universalis III which isn't exactly an RTS as much as it is Blitzkreig in the past. Its really a super-realism game where anything can and will happen to the world around you, plus changing the past is fun (imagine a France that wins wars!!!!). Also Stronghold is a great RTS series.

Unforunatly i dont have AoE2 anymore...  :( and i looked at Europa Universalis III and it didn't appeal to my tastes(sorry) and then stronghold games looked pretty cool but a little to complex for my tastes. But i thank you for the suggestions and trying to help me

CnC Generals is a great game but apart from that I think you've covered all the RTS's I like to play. Maybe LOTR Battle for Middle Earth?

For turn based games, definitely go for Total War. Rome TW is to this day one of my favourite games and has incredible RTS battles. The Civilisation series is quite good too.

Thanks for the suggestions i think i have CnC generals(if its in the first decade) then i used to play LOTR battle for middle earth 2 on my xbox 360 but i can't seem to find it anywhere or PC...  :'(

I'm not a huge fan of total war i cant seem to get the hang of it i don't know why. And i played Civilization it pretty fun

But thanks for the suggestions  ;D

TWs take some time to learn and practice with but are extremely rewarding as you start conquering the world. Eventually you look back at your empire and remember how hard fought it was to build it. Very satisfying.

In one of my Shogun 2 campaigns, I began as Oda and was at war with about 7 other clans. I had to do a battle where my lone capital had to stand against 3 full stack armies. I failed the first time, lost the game and had to reload. Now I've conquered half of Japan and have gigantic armies but I still remember my humble beginnings. :P

Total war series are the most unique with both turn-based adn real-time strategy. If I'm too lazy, I only play their turn-based part and leave the battles for the comp's decision :P. Another turn-based game I like is Disciples I & II (forget III, it sucks). There was also a RTS game you control polices, firefighters, medics to fight against disasters too ;D (I forgot its name, but it can be found again)

Wow thanks guys i wouldn't mind playing TW shogun 2 it looks really cool but i dont wanna spend the money and end up not getting the hang of it  ;) but i might try the demo and if this can help narrow it down i want RTS games like AoE or CoH that kind of RTS if you get what i'm saying.

Still Thanks  ;D

You could try the following:
Supreme Commander, sci-fi setting but truelly an epic scale (think insanely large maps and armies)
Alexander, based on the film. The game is a bit like AoE but with a way higher pop cap (somewhere in the 10000 if I'm not mistaken).

Post by: stealthattack1 on April 05, 2012, 07:20:31 PM
yes, supreme commander is a classic,

army men rts is a game that ive played for ages, quite simple, but still fun.

theres always starcraft, and dare i mention it, starcraft 2, if your comp can handle it.

the best rts ive ever played is of course company of heroes. there's nothing like the  micro that you need as well as macro and counters. + the game engine is beautiful. if you have a good enough rig, you can zoom up on fingers that have been blown off.  altogether an amazing game.

I tried SC demo and it seemed ok and then the only alexander i could find was a total war one. Then the army men game looked pretty fun and i already play CoH about every day  ;D and im a tid bit curious of starcraft or starcraft2

Still Thanks guys ;D

End of Nations? It's not out yet but may be something you might want to keep tabs on, or sign up to the beta for, if it's your thing. It's basically a C&C Generals MMO with some WiC aspects, but looks like it could be a lot of fun with 50+ players to a server...

It does look pretty cool but is it only to play against other people? i don't think i'm good enough to play others. I prefer to play against AI in a skirmish type mode

Thanks for the help thought  ;D

Oh also look into Cossacks: European War, an old time classic RTS

RA:2 was definitely my favorite RTS before Company of Heroes. But that's probably been mentioned already.

Sadly the gaming community as a whole isn't so interested in RTS games. They'd rather have a FPS.

Men of War ( whole series) - quite difficult to master, very realistic, cool graphics, demanding multiplayer
Europa Universalis series and/or Hearts of Iron series - complex macro games, they take a lot of time to finish but there are almost unlimited options
Civilization IV ( +Fall From Heaven 2 mod) or Civilization V - another macro games, complex but incredible fun

The only things I hate about Men of War are:
-The stupid AI.
-The lags even with a good pc (bad programmer)
-The infantry animations, I mean seriously they do not breach?
-Infantry which has combat experience (for example Panzergrenadiers) get an Iron body so they almost can't get killed by a volkssturm (that's realistic that the damage of a rifle depends on who it shoots  ???)

AI sucks because MoW is more like multiplayer game, like CoH.
In MoW:AA there's no more body armour, elite infantry is tougher and better in fighting.

Sure, there is. If you call in the Assault Group as Soviet Union. The infantry sitting on top has Body Armour.
I meant this fact: If a Volkssturm shoots a k98 and hits a Ranger he deals a little damage.
However if a Panzergrenadier hits a Ranger with a k98 he deals more damage but it's the SAME bloody weapon.

Does MoW have a skirmish mode like Coh does?

99+ on everything Walki said. Men of War have some really big issues . The vietnam version is kind of lame because its has no multiplayer. Who is the funniest part of Men of war :S
The biggest plus about MOW is that you can capture enemies vechicles! <3

World in Conflict?

Does MoW have a skirmish mode like Coh does?

MoW Assault Squad has a pretty shallow single player, and also the Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG) mod which is alright for a bit of compstomping and not overly complex to use (given you read the instructions). Men of War (the original) has a much better single player than Assault Squad, you can also pick up the 'Red Tide' expansion which was pretty decent.

IIRC there is a Red Alert Series although I've never played it. I believe it's "modern"

Not really modern, more Retro Sci Fi.

CNC Generals > All other CNC's.

Though red-alert 1, 2 and Tiberian sun was good. The newest still can't compare to Generals.

Starcraft 2 on medium\low settings seems to be one of the smoothest running games ever. It's very well programmed and has übersmooth unit reactions and such.

Lord of the rings, Battle for middle earth 2 is cool if you like LOTR and cavalry or trolls throwing around infantry.

And there is allways DAWN OF WAR soulstorm, kinda like COH just a totally different settings, made by relic so you can reeinforce your squaads, lose morale on them, and such.

Empire at War: Want a cool singleplayer experiance and like Starwars alittle.. Empire at war is all i can say about that. Empire At War has so many cool features i still play galactic conquest for hours. Fight in space or at land. The galactic map there is also awesome.

Universe at War: A really sad game for me, i was young and excited, keept eyes on the production and played in the Beta and such. The game is AWESOME! but... Buggy with no community thanks to SEGA and GamesForWindowsLive. It's so sad that they threw away such an innovative game. So if you get it you are stuck to singleplayer only but it's still cool because of the interresting units, super diverse factions and all.

Thats my input on this matter. =P

Funny, I remember people hating Generals when it come out, it's not a bad game but its cheesy and humorless. Imo, Red Alert 2 is still the best C&C, the story, characters, humor and the FMV sequences are beastly. None of the newer C&C's are much good... C&C3 could pass, but RA3 was worthless and C&C4 is best not mentioned, especially in an era with games like CoH where tactics are much deeper than simply spamming units... kind of. :P

Kanes Wrath would be part of C&C3 since it was an expansion. It was pretty good from what I can remember... shame they couldn't churn out a gold crown expansion for that RA3 turd, RA3: Uprising was pathetic.

Generals ain't a Typical CNC no. Zero Hour expantion is a must and faction diversity is so nice.

Taking over Dozers with GLA and build USA powerplants to speed up production. <3 That game has a place in my heart as well as RA1.

CnC 4... Thats a load of bullcrap. What a piece of shit that stupid game was. Can't ever recall playing something that boring. EVER. Except the E.T game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2o3mlg5AxQ

CNC3 = Faction diversity is just an illusion. Both factions can be played just alike. No Core difference, just different looking units. Scrin main infantry, the drones were the only cool exception of this rule. The rest was just same shit, new name to me.

If you ever play Tiberian sun you will notice a MUCH greater diversity between NOD and GDI. =)
