Anybody else played this yet? I've heard people harping on about it for at least... a month. It's a Zombie survival mod for ArmaII, but it's set in a totally online, consistent world where people scavenge, steal and murder just to survive the zombie apocalypse. I've watched a few people play it and I have to say, although I got over Zombie games after the first Resident Evil, this is a proper hardcore survival game, even more so than Fallout or Stalker. I bought Arma II at full price just to play it. :-X
When I say hardcore, I mean haaaardcore. You don't even start off with a weapon! You have to run around a zombie infested town, dodging the undead and other players alike just to find a pistol or a knife, you're not even guaranteed to have bullets if you're lucky enough to come across a gun. On top of this, if you get shot or bitten or run into some barbed wire, you start to bleed everywhere and need to heal yourself with a bandage... no bandages? Well, you'll be dead in a few minutes then. You also need to make sure you're well fed and watered and supplies are extremely short... in the 4 villages I searched, I found 1 can of coke, a hatchet which was useless and a double barreled shotgun with no shells. I also found a crossbow, but I felt shotgun shells were probably more common than crossbow bolts.
In my noobishness I started running around the town looking for something to protect myself with, attracting ALOT of zombie attention. The Zombies are basically blind, they rely on their hearing to sense where you may be... so if you're running about, Zombies lock on to you very quickly, but if you walk calmly or crouch/prone, you can move virtually undetected.
So, does anybody actually play this? Because I had my first taste today and I really enjoyed it, despite not finding any fecking weapons or supplies ;D
I also thought that people could share their survival stories here if you have any. Being an open ended game, with tonnes of shit going on and plently of people playing, even the most mudane boring of times in the game can be interesting. ;)

Lol Burro! Next time join Mumble! Dave, Rizz and me play it :P.
-
My nerves are shot after that last game, killing that bitch who killed you while you were waiting for me and Paul to give you a blood transfusion. I managed to make it up to Stary Sobor, on the hill behind the town, I really need to find a weapon other than the Lee Enfield ;D

I'm thinking of getting ARMA II just to play this mod, but isn't ARMA III coming soon?

Thats Exactly what I did, and I'll tell you, its worth it.
Burro, even though many good things are up North, go Southwest and their is plenty of crossbow shots in a shack.
That is my main weapon, silent but deadly. Along with a random Bus I found. If I had more Gas, I would ride it everywhere ;D
-
ArmA II has sold more copies since DayZ came out than when it was just standalone :P I mean, when I heard that I thought 'Do people really like Zombies that much?', but now that I've played it some more I don't even think it's the zombie aspect that's made it popular, I think it's the free roaming survival aspect, it must trigger some primal part of the brain.
Currently I'm holding Walki's stuff and I'm not exactly partial to dying, so I'm hiding for now until he comes back online tomorrow maybe to hand it to him. I'd hate to lose his shit to a glitch or something after all the crap we've been through, and after sinking a bullet into the head of the bastard who killed him. ;D
Walki liked his crossbow, we'll probably head off to find another tomorrow and check out some deer shacks for bolts. I'm totally shooting assholes on sight now though, no point in hesitating.

TBD 2013, so ArmA III could be a year away, could be 6 months away. Either way, DayZ is pretty epic, given you can find people to play with. Once you get some more of the major loot, you suddenly feel like dying isn't an option and need to start shooting everybody on sight just to say alive. As I've found, the Zombies are more reasonable than most players.
I also believe that the guy who made DayZ is working for Bohemia now and we may see DayZ in some official capacity with ArmA III, but don't quote me on that. Would be awesome though.
-
Would love it. Currently, am alone, and I like it. Am gathering to get my Helicopter working, though with all the Glitches going on I don't think its going to end well. Plus, my Bus Attracts Zombies from (sorta) miles, so every time I drive to town I end up spending 5 min to shoot zombies :-X. And the random player that hears me.
-
Ma crossbow my ghille suit :(. Why that guy shot me actually?
-
To nick all your stuff, besides the stuff you actually liked :P I got a murder which was weird, because he had all your stuff on him, I should have got a bandit kill.
-
sorry i didn't find this thread earlier, but no i dont play this, YET. i am seriously getting this game just to get this mod, as it looks boss, and pretty realistic.
this is how i found out about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQGzHcOn650&feature=g-hist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQGzHcOn650&feature=g-hist)

If there is a saleoff of this game, I will consider buying it and play this mod. I bought CoH just to play EF after all.
-
@Dann88
Same here :D!
-
If there wasn't EF, I will spend all days killing stupid AIs and angry noobs :P
I hope there is a "hidden and dangerous" mod for this game. That will be awesome! ;D

Burro, his brother and me yesterday gathered ourselves at Cherno and now we are heading towards the nothern airstrip. Had some nice stories on the way. Like the one where Burros brother is getting teleported back to a fireplace we were at 30 minutes ago to finish up his steak :D. We also found a chopper crash which had night vision googles inside now we are somewhere in the woods near Stary Sabor :P. Had a nice round yesterday and I'm looking for continuing it :D.
-
Absolutely ;D
I was mistaken btw, I thought we were near Stary Sobor heading towards Novy Sobor, but Stary isn't the only place with that weird Water tower, Gorka has one too... I was watching a Let's Play (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGVCLXRVtgE&feature=bf_next&list=PL380E86EC25DBDB3F) yesterday and the guy doing it headed straight to the same block of concrete we did just before I shoved a crowbar up that cow's backside. So it appears we're just above Polana, which means if we head straight north we'd hit Krasnostav in about 10 minutes. I'm temped to pitch camp in the forest below Black mountain btw and hide some stuff there, Black mountain has no loot, no zombies, no deer stands, and hopefully no epic-gear bandits running around with their thermal fucking machine guns as they like to pitch up further North and to the far West.
We should circle the airfield first before we head in, Bandits like to keep overwatch on the strip and hangers just to give you a bad day. Not as bad as the NW airstrip though, I've heard that shit is essentially the Stalker Chernobyl NPP of DayZ, you'll be lucky to get in alive.

I crashed my heli into some wire lines yesterday. Very sad.

I would rather call it stupid but ok :P.

Well, at least you didn't do this...

;D
I like how it blew up and everyone in the area died. F
For a second it looked like it was going to succeed.
-
Killed a guy who didn't deserve it for the first time today. I observed him for ages, waiting for him to leave the Airport near Krasnostav, and after not seeing him for about 5 minutes I assumed he'd left so I ran down to see what he hadn't looted. Suddenly, he appears in the control tower which is about 10ft in front of me. I had to drop him with two rounds from my rifle. Feel like such a bastard, although he probably would have done the same to me given the chance.
Made a Sniper Rifle out of it :P

Kleinburger and Keule also play DayZ and I hear them talking about having to kill guys because of the risk of being killed all the time :P
I think Keule ended up gaining night vision goggles out of dropping one guy :P

The rule is quiet simple: Never trust somebody inland (and in Cherno).

Its weird how cut throat this game is. You would think with only so many survivors and kimited supplies you would try to stay together but no, people are more concerned about hunting survivors than zombies :P.

No incentive to help other players currently, you gain more being a bandit or backstabbing people. I like it actually, makes you paranoid :P
-
THey should change it. Like if you stay around a person(s) for a set amount of time you get rewarded or good things happen. If u kill a lot bad things happen. Like in Fallout with karma
-
In real life if your nice to a person you won't get a gun out of nowhere.
-
As we were ambushed near Stary Sabor (...and killed) two days ago (Burro and me). I decided to start a new character and got killed by a bandit with a M249....
So now I retried it yesterday decided to take the spawn in Kamenka (far left on map) and head for the Balota airfield. Until Balota I used a hatchet as a weapon, then I found a Makarov in the gatehouse and climbed up the tower and found an AK-47 (finally no AKM that thing sucks because of the zeroing). Suddenly I heard somebody shoot at me in the tower. I proned down and watched over the wall with 3rd person (sneaky). I saw the guy running over the airfield with no cover so I shot him. Unfortunatly a guy with a shotgun proned up the towerstairs but he seemed to use first person so he didn't see me. To save my gear I shot him, too. As you may know the next thing after you search the tower is the military camp nearby so I went there. Somebody wired the entrance from the airfield direction (which probably safed my life). So I entered the camp from the other side and looted 2 guard towers. Climbing on the third one someone opened fire on me again... I proned down on the tower and waited 5 minutes until the guy showed up and I killed him. Then I looted the last tower (two M249 clips = 400 rounds woot!) and found two AK mags. Now I'm heading for Cherno and Elektro, so I can hopefully meet up with Burro again.
In the end two guys deserved the dead and one was just unlucky :P. Looking forward to continue the game ;).
-
I'm going to have a little game tonight I think. I gave it a rest because I kept getting myself killed by doing stupid things (like driving a Car around the NWAF), also because they've nerfed pistols and taken character skins out of the loot tables which is totally fucked imo. ::) Hopefully spawn near Cherno, run in, get a nice weapon from the Army tents near the Hospital...
Edit
Oh, forgot I'd already spawned... as a woman no less. Oh well, I have an AK XD
-
I went to the big Airfield and checked over 8 deer huts and didn't find a weapon. Only ammo and I was so darn lucky cause nobody was at the airfield and I was able to loot a lot. Now I got a M16A2 with 8 clips and a silenced M9 with 3 clips. However as I had to fight a zombie horde I only got about 2500 blood left. It's like being in a bad black and white horror movie. If I drop under 2500 i'll start falling inconsicness all the time. So please somebody!!! Got me a blood transfusion. You got 2 weeks till I return. :)
-
I found a bike... again, and went to the north west airfield where I found pretty much nothing. I disconnected in the Control Tower so I can search for stuff when I reconnect at somepoint... unfortunately another patch was released and it's broke the game, can't connect to any servers ::)
-
got ARMA II cause of this but i usually quit after 10 mins because it gets boring when there are no weapons and no one else around :/
-
I always go to servers where there are lots of people. Recently, I put tents in the fields next to Cherno and wait for noobs to inspect it, only to get a sniper bullet in the face by me ;)
But really, I usually don't play for more then 30 Min at a time because it does get boring.
-
Gather all the people of EF forum together to play DayZ, try to arm everyone, run around in full force, burning and killing eveything in its path => people begin to act like the same way => not boring anymore. (just a concept)
-
I would play it but it sounds like it gets boring after a while if u have no friend to play with. At least thats what I hear
-
I've had some fun without friends, but it's irritating if you've survived for a long time and die without somebody there to retrieve the stuff for your corpse (and hopefully avenge your death!). I does get boring by yourself though, and it's good with another pair of eyes looking out for danger, yet it doesn't necessarily mean you're safer as me and Walki have discovered a few times. The security a buddy provides can make you complacent and less paranoid than usual... which is deadly in DayZ :P
-
On the contrary, if you have more than 1 person, you'd probably get caught faster IMO. But having a friend just to talk to if fun. Running around for an hour just to get shot is or sounds boring.
-
It's pretty easy to hide yourself in ArmAII/DayZ... I mean, I've come across groups of up to 5 people just hiding in the woods that I had no idea were there... and in an open field, it doesn't matter if you're on your own or with 10 other people, you still stick out like a sore thumb even when prone (mainly due to distance rendering)... which is why I generally prefer to stick to the woods :P Actually, if you were with 10 other people you'd probably be okay as only a maniac with a ghillie suit and a thermal L85A2 would have a chance of killing all of you ;D
Towns I guess are different because people could be anywhere, looting stuff... I've been caught out in supermarkets a few times and it's not nice to be murdered once your character's found his or her first Mountain Dew :(
-

LOL Im surprised there is no copyrght issues XD. I saw a pepsi can in one vid
Are hackers a big problem? I see a lot of videos on YouTube poking fun at hackers but again, there are a lot of these videos.

Yes certainly they are. They usually turn you into cows, drop all players from a certain hight or teleport every player to the NW Airfield. The best way to prevent that is just leaving the server asap.
-
They usually turn you into cows.
IDK why but that sounds really fun XD
-
Cows cannot walk backwards or strafe. Its a tough life.
-
But do they get to eat grass? ;D
-
You won't heal your health from eating grass :'(
-
You won't heal your health from eating grass :'(
Resident Evil protagonists called, they want to have a word with you.

I thought they used Herbs in Resident Evil? Slap a little bit of basil on your oozing Zombie bite and all is well.
-
I thought they eat them like salad ???
-
I have thoughts of getting this.. Are there many weapons? Only modern ones? Do the zombies run? :> The thing about hackers got me on second thoughts, also its the ARMAII engine.. With all respect but what I seen its like the mothership of glitches and bugs. :S

Well atm it's ok. I also enjoy playing Arma 2 without mods actually. Quiet fun but I won't say it's a must have.
-
Is there tanks in Dayz? ;>
-
Is there tanks in Dayz? ;>
Not that I know. Highest thing are military jeeps (no mg).
-
If you are hacking I believe you can get a tank in there :P
-
Free tanks (from the sky) for everyone! Something like that?
-
bumping with an idea,
IF this thread is not dead, there should be a posse of guys that play EF. ya know, someone to have at your back.
-
LOL we could all have Lee Enfields and pretend we are a Strelky squad XD
-
Getting busier by the day so I'm not playing DayZ anymore unfortunately...
