Title: Thanks for your support
Post by: Blackbishop on August 05, 2012, 11:55:40 PM
Hello Eastern Front fans,

It has passed a couple of years since soviets were released and comparing these faction with the current one makes it appear as two completely different. There are many things to do, a lot of things to improve and patches to release, while we know that our patch release cycle time is not one the best this is problably something that will be improved soon.

We are very close to the 6000 likes on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Company-of-Heroes-Eastern-Front/128504050512744), and we thought of celebrating getting that "achievement" by releasing more images from Ostheer and what the next patch for soviets will contain. We also have been posting lately some screenshots of some models we have just finished for Ostheer or about Ostheer troops engaging against soviets:

(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Panzerjager_Squad.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Panzerjager.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/mg34_team.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/panzerwerfers.jpg)
(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/outpost_street.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/outpost_small.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/outpost_slope.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/outpost_field.jpg)
(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/lets_rok.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/relic3.png)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/relic2.png)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/relic1.png)
(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/pziii_romanian.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/pziii_ausfn.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/pziii_ausfl.jpg)(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/pziii_ausfj.jpg)

And we think it is fine to continue posting these, otherwise you might think development has stopped; atm we still have a lot of things to finish, mainly infantry gear and some weapons we need, besides the foreign models (http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/foreign_vehicles.jpg). So we still have a lot of things to do and not too much time to do it. So, as a token of gratitute for helping us to reach 6000 likes in facebook, we will post more screenshots about Ostheer and about the new elements contained in the next patch for soviets.

As an advance of the deal, we proudly present to you our second version of the StuG III:

(http://www.majhost.com/gallery/blackbishop/Temp/stugs.jpg)
StuG III (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/blackbishop/Temp/stugs.jpg)

Similar to the Panzer III case, our StuG III was a bit inaccurate, so we had to rework it and should be almost finished for now.

Thanks for your support,
Eastern Front Development Team

Good that you have finally updated the main site because some people though that you're dead, it seems that they don't know a moddb.com site.

I do like a Stug III model, it looks better than a community one. Even skin can stay, grey power :).

Personally, I really like the new fieldgrey skins for all the vehicles.  Makes them look so "war-machine"-like and cruel at the same time, as opposed to giving them camo and having them looking like plants from a garden.

What I'm aiming for. Creating camo is time consuming, if people want camo on their tanks they can modify the skins themselves. I'll probably replace any existing 'camo' with new fieldgrey skins once the rest of the vehicles are finished.

Agreed. Feldgrey looks more sleek and sexy than camo anyway. Leave green gardens to the allies who need it to stand a chance against the german war machine anyway.

TBH, I have no doubt that all the vehicles will look absolutely fantastic.  I trust Burro's work with the fieldgrey skins, judging from his Panzer III and Marder II skins.  Apeman's also done an amazing job with the UI portraits.

The infantry skins are the only thing that's worrying me right now.  No offense to the skinner, but they look like they need some re-work.  I could even volunteer to skin for the Ostheer infantry, just so it comes out looking chill.  I wouldn't even need a 2D Artist Dev badge at all.  It would be such a shame to see such great vehicle skins undermined by inferior infantry skins.

Post by: Blackbishop on August 08, 2012, 07:07:49 PM
Well, atm we have skins for Landsers, Sturmpios, Jagers(Panzerfusiliers), Gebirsjagers & the MG team. I think Landsers & MG team skins are fine as it, but don't know what other Devs say about the other skins.
Title: Re: Thanks for your support
Post by: BurroDiablo on August 08, 2012, 07:12:41 PM
MG team definitely needs another skin and model mix, it was actually just a mix test I kept forgetting to take the time to change.

Landsers are good where they are, but any help with Infantry skinning would be greatly appreciated... means I can focus on the stuff I'm actually useful at :P

I think the Jaegers and Panzerjaegers could definitely use new skins. Sturmpios are OK. Would like to see a less green Marksman.

We might have some reward that changes a few of the Foreign infantry (probably just skins) to different units like Legion Azul, maybe even one or two new vehicles with similar stats, but we'll have to wait and see :P

Someone with mod powers will allow you access to the Kremlin soon. This is the private Allied forum in the tourney where we discuss orders and strategy. You can't see it yet but it will appear in the GPW forum as a subforum once you are added.

Has there been any approximate ETA for the new models and Ostheer?
Title: Re: Thanks for your support
Post by: Blackbishop on August 15, 2012, 08:42:04 PM
As we have usually say, there is no ETA for Ostheer. For the next patch maybe in the next month, depends of the available time of balancers(and mine as well I guess :P).

Meanwhile, I'll post some pics of some visible changes for the next patch:

(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Secured_Point.jpg)
Flags for Soviets in sectors (http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Secured_Point.jpg)

You already know that we have changed the outpost model, but we also fixed the flags for the Strategy Points, Munition Points, Fuel Points and Victory Points, whenever they are captured or secured.

In the past soviets used to use Blue flags and in the current patch US Flags, but now they will have their own brand ;).

(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/vehicle_cover.jpg)
Vehicle Cover Icon (http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/vehicle_cover.jpg)

Vehicle Cover is the ability given by Relic to all vehicles so they can have cover bonus(a bit like infantry cover but not directional and only can be under cover or not, AFAIK). Some vehicles didn't have it before 2.602... some players say it can help you to win battles. But how do you use it? How do you know when you have cover?

Company of Heroes Online used to have a solution for that, and in Eastern Front Team team will gladly implement something similar to our mod. From the next patch whenever your vehicles are in cover, you will see this gray shield above the vehicle and you'll know your vehicle has cover bonus on that area.

This will surely help everyone ;).

Yes, yes they are. They are vehicles, even Flak 88 have vehicle cover.
Title: Re: Thanks for your support
Post by: Pac-Fish on August 16, 2012, 03:29:02 AM
They are vehicles

I know that  ::)

I meant GR.org did an article on vehicle cover and they said tanks weren't supposed to get the cover bonus. Only light vehicles or basically anything that can get wehr vehicle vet. 88s can get vehicle vet. And anything from the motor pool (and Jeep :D). And all the light PE vehicles. And  (IDK about this) the Sturat and the light tankoyve for SU

Basically if MG AP rounds can kill it its a light vehicle. I think
Title: Re: Thanks for your support
Post by: GodlikeDennis on August 16, 2012, 05:16:01 AM
Well we didn't ADD any vehicle cover AFAIK. The devs only made it possible to see when a unit is receiving its vehicle cover bonus it would normally get.

What bonus(es) does vehicle cover give?
Title: Re: Thanks for your support
Post by: GodlikeDennis on August 16, 2012, 09:34:01 AM
I think it's 0.75 received accuracy. So units shooting it will hit it 25% less, excluding scatter hits.
Title: Re: Thanks for your support

What bonus(es) does vehicle cover give?

Its what GLD said. Its the same statistical bonus you get when you are on the move. You are basically harder to hit. But the advantage of vehicle cover is you have more shooting accuracy when standing still.

I simply bring up the cover for tanks because I see the IS-3 has the cover bonus and I was wondering if they purposely added vehicle cover to tanks when no other faction has vehicle cover for their tanks or if it was just an accident.

Dude, the only tanks that didn't have vehicle cover were the Shermans and that was fixed in 2.602 ;). Pershing and KT already had vehicle cover, so it is obvious than IS3 will have it.
Title: Re: Thanks for your support
Post by: Pac-Fish on August 16, 2012, 06:19:19 PM
I thought the reason tanks like the KT didnt get vehicle cover was because they crushed it when they got close to it or they were too big of a target. Im pretty sure they dont have vehicle cover. Im going to find that article again :P

Edit: You are right in that some tanks get vehicle cover but not all. I only llooked it over briefly. Here is the article.

That guide is obviously outdated, although the tactics can be still applied. You can check yourself on corsix if you like, create a new mod and look at the vehicle ebps files :P... the only vehicles that doesn't have vehicle cover for 2.602 are:

* Command Trucks
* Churchill Variants
* Priest
* Goliath

I'm not sure if they were forgotten though.

if you like, create a new mod

I didnt mean any offense or critizing what you are doing. I was just mentioning an article I remember seeing on GR.org
Title: Re: Thanks for your support
Post by: Blackbishop on August 16, 2012, 08:04:20 PM
Oh, I didn't mean that. Creating a mod is the only way to read the original files, because if I tell you to open EF mod you may argue that we have modified some parts of them and might not be "vanilla" anymore. And that's correct, read EF files to check a if vanilla feature was changed in 2.602 is not an objective approach ;).

Some stuff for the next patch:

(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Panzer_Elite_Tank_Destroyer_Tactics_Alternate_trees.jpg)
Panzer Elite Luftwaffe Support Alternate Tree (http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Panzer_Elite_Tank_Destroyer_Tactics_Alternate_trees.jpg)

Greetings comrades!

We are proud to announce than Eastern Front will have now alternate trees to depict reward units! What does this mean and why you should be happy?

In the past versions, the reward units that replaced units from Command Trees did not appear in the respective tree as upgrade, but it used to be the regular one... in example, if replacing Hetzer with Jagdpanzer IV, at the Command Tree you always saw the Hetzer, although when purchasing the upgrade you would get a Jagdpanzer IV call-in.

Now that is part of the past for us, and for everyone else will be soon, as soon as we finish and release the next update for Eastern Front.

Thanks to jojorabit, our new AI coder, for helping us to achieve this. I'll post later more screenshots of how the other trees looks like.

(http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Soviet_Urban_Combat_Strategy.jpg)
Soviet Urban Combat Strategy (http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/10/9675/Soviet_Urban_Combat_Strategy.jpg)

After too many discussions and tests, it seems than Urban Combat will be arranged like shown in this screenshot. Almost everything is still the same, nonetheless I'll briefly describe all the upgrades so there is no confusion about them.

Left Side:
* Street Fighting: Ingeneries can get up to two flamethrowers, Conscripts get the mosin upgrade. Sturmovie Ingeneries no longer benefit from double flamers.
* For the motherland!: Enables the timed ability "For the motherland!" and also grants Strelky the incendiary grenades.
* KV2/SU122: Enable the off-map reinforcement ability for these units.

Right Side:
* Partisans: Recruit a Partisan squad from a neutral building.
* Flares: Reveal an area for limited time and punish the enemies inside it(it doesn't reveal camo'ed units).
* Sniper Ace: Calls a heroe of the Soviet Union, the Sniper Ace.
