Urm Devs I don't want be this guy, but perhaps we can offer the Panzer IV another upgrade? It would make sense as its weaker than the other two.

@neosdark
I don't understand what do you mean with that? Could you explain further?

Post by: Pac-Fish on October 29, 2012, 03:49:31 AM
I think he means he wants something added to the Panzer IV to make it more appealing or worth while to buy cause atm its just a regular panzer with things you must buy rather than come with and is weaker compared to the other two, the Tiger and Panther

tldr: He wants a cooler Panzer IV :P

Some kind of special ability add-on is another option... Though I haven't the slightest clue what it could be... Look at historical records, surely there were many interesting 'field mods' that could be adapted for the game in a characterful fashion.

That said, so long as the 'fortress troops' commander tree gets something else to balance the lack of a proper 'heavy' tank (I'm calling panthers 'heavy' on a technicality), then I think it would probably be fine... Speaking of which, thats what were going to get next right? Updated command trees?

Are the Panzerfusiliers really armed with MP40s?  After viewing the picture I thought they had MP41s.

That is just a placeholder, and they will have something nice :). But yes, they will use the MP40.

Stats wise it's not the Panzer IV  that you used to know. It's acting like a T34/85 imho. So it's not worse than the other "cats" just different.

Hrmm, I can't say i like that too much Riggs, but you are the balancers so i'll live with it
Title: Re: Ostheer Layout for 2.0.0.0 (Second Part)
Post by: Blackbishop on October 29, 2012, 05:33:55 AM
Don't worry too much about it guys, if it feels too odd and actually survives to the closed beta, we can still do something about it.

There are some Balancers/Devs which do not like it and some others that doesn't like than it has a different weapon than Wehr's.

Nice update Bish!

Keep in mind that you base your assumption on the PIV on the wehr variant, which isnt the same in OH. Also this setup is WIP, so some things might change in the process. However most of the things you see is set in stone.

In broadcasted games we saw Stug III as main battle tank, now it this layout its PzIII again.
What is changed from then to now  ::)

And any date to release?

in broadcasts stug3 was indeed neutral, but it was stated that this might be changed back to panzer3 being neutral again. all just WIP ;)

as for the panzer IV, i personally like it, but i also understand that some people don't want to see "just another panzer IV". so like neo said, something cool could be added to it or it could be replaced by something different. i would suggest replacing it with a "dicker max" (tank destroyer based on panzer4 chassis), something like a stronger marder - but that would be some kind of prototype unit (only 2 were used on eastern front) and i don't know if that would be a good idea but if the kugelblitz in...  ;)

There will be a reward unit for the PanzerIV. Many will be satisfied with this one, who dont like the PanzerIV.

Will it be another prototype? Or maybe a captured Soviet tank?

PanzerIV is no prototype. Or what do you mean?

Guys, there is no reward unit for the Panzer IV so far, so I'm not sure what are you talking about :-\. As I said before, Panzer IV is not even in stone so we shouldn't be thinking about a reward unit of it.

A tank Destroyer wouldn't fit, because you already have the Marder and the StuG(which works in a similar way).

I don't wanna see an Assault Gun/Tank Hunter as well which you have already Marder II and Stug in your disposal as same as Elephant as doctrinal. It must be a "Tank" along with Panther & Tiger or something else but not Assault Gun.

We discussed about this in the 2.0 thread. However rewards are for a future update anyways.

One can not ignore PZ4 on the Eastern Front. He was present there. If you do not like, there are a variety of tanks and strategies that can be used in this new faction WITHOUT pz4 appear. It is not mandatory as Wehr. I frankly liked pz3 as main tank. I feel that the team balancers are on track.
And in my opinion, rewards should not be priorities.
Title: Re: Ostheer Layout for 2.0.0.0 (Second Part)
Post by: neosdark on October 29, 2012, 07:23:50 PM
I was thinking you may do a captured T-34/85 or perhaps a captured KV-1. And I also came up with a reward unit for the Kugelblitz, the Flakpanzer T-34 (r) (http://www.achtungpanzer.com/images/flakt34_s.jpg[b). It was about as common as a Bergetiger, but did see service as part of SS Totenkopf on the Eastern Front so it would make good sense.

@Killar: I meant that would it be another prototype similar to the Kugelblitz?
Title: Re: Ostheer Layout for 2.0.0.0 (Second Part)
Post by: Gerrit 'Lord Rommel' G. on October 29, 2012, 07:38:52 PM
The Flakpanzer T-34 wasnt part of a Waffe-SS-Division.
It was part of the 653. s.Pz.Jg.Abt, a Sturmgeschütz Ferdiand formation.
The Stabs-HQ needed mobile anti air defence. The Flakpanzer T-34 was made by the workshop company of the 653. s.Pz.Jg.Abt.
All in all the 653. s.Pz.Jg.Abt build a lot of "funnies" during the war. This workshop company build the Panther-PzIV-commander-tank, too.
The last "unique  weapon" of the 653. was the commander-tank Tiger (P).
Flakpanzer T-34 and Panther-PzIV were lost during the last months of wwII.

And when the Panzer IV is as strong as a T-34/85, I can live with it.  ;)

Sounds more like an unique reward unit to me, with JP armor type  :)

Good evening together, this is an awesome update.
Will the next update be about the doctrines?

Sweet <3 And skip the part imo about soviet captured tanks ( sorry Neo <3)
Its confusing, and if I have to be rude and disrespectful to the hard work of the devs, its quite boring to see the same vehicle used again :P

I vote for the SOMUA 35 !

Hmm... I just remembered, there was the 'old' plan for "Ace" level veterancy, which allowed for 'unique' specializations of some units ((Originally it was the Marksman and the Panther only)). Is something like this still planned at all? Because with 3 'heavy' tanks by doctrine, there is a much large number of cool battlefield variants that could be looked into...

How about a Pz.4 'Field mod' that gives it a sloped 'nose cone' inspired by the JgdPz.4? (I can see crews doing this... Weld a couple of extra skirt type metal plates into vulnerable areas to increase the chance of a deflection - if only slightly). That is just one 'off the top of my head' suggestion, no doubt you guys have access to better historical info than me and can come up with reasonable ideas... Assuming you do intend to go the "ace" route at all any more (my vote is for 'yes' if it helps :P ).

The Ace vet is still around but it doesn't completely change the unit like in old concepts. It simply affects stats and abilities depending on your specialisation choice (for infantry) or giving predefined bonuses (for tanks).

indeed i used the sturmtiger instead of brummbär
but both units are woth to be played

as long as you have pop you can have as much brummbär tanks as you want

sturm can only be one at the same time but therefor 380mm full of german love :D

We talked about it in the ostheer suggestion forum sometime..

Posted some new pics in ModDB, they are not from Ostheer, but for the next soviet patch:

You should make a gallery in the Main website too.

About the Pics;

Glad to see the soviet sniper using a scoped mosin. My forum topic was not in vain.

Yeah, it was discussed but never adopted

What was it supposed to do, just curious.

Think it as Panther whic can't move and it's on top of bunker.

No, that my good sir is a Pantherturm (the dug in Panther turret).

IRL The Schmallturm was more slopped, used less materials and time to make, and could mount a longer 75mm gun (I think it was 128mm long). It was designed for the Panther II and E-50/E-75 prototypes if memory serves.

Schmallturm gave the Panther the ability to destroy the very fabric of time and space. We decided it may be slightly overpowered.

Or what Neo said.

Maybe as a reward for the Marder II, but it's up to the balancers.

Honestly I wouldn't replace the Marder II with a simple PaK40. I would much rather see an RSO/PaK40, with a lower received accuracy and lower range, but better close range accuracy and possibly a PZIV IST Lockdown type of ability post-modernization.

Are you still keeping with the idea of Panzer IIIs upgrading to the Ausf. N (with HEAT ability) or was that idea dropped?

Dropped. We will implement a flammenwerferpanzer III for anti infantry duties.

Lets talk about the Panzerjagers.  Now does their Panzerschreck slot also include the gas mask?  So if they drop the Panzerschreck and an Engineer Squad picks it up, they get the gas mask?

Nope. The mask is only for the original troops.

So is there going to be a preview of the command trees before you release the OH?
