Are there ever any civil wars in that game?
If so Walki, you might have been out of luck if the game ran 10 years later :(

Spanish Civil War
there are revolutions/uprisings (spawns a lot of milita in some provinces) and partisans (single units). So you have to hunt them down :P
There are some countries which are kinda hard to hold Yugoslavia/Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is a puppet for me so I get ressources from them but I don't have to care about the provinces. Therefor they can produce whatever they want and attack me if the want to get independend again.
As I plan an invasion on Germany and Italy I got enough troops in Yugoslavia to beat down any uprising.
-
You can sort of count China's situation as a civil war too, since it's split into several factions but they aren't technically at war.

Yeah, but playing as nationalist China is boring as hell. I better start of with small countries (communists china) and capture everything around me :P. A lot more fun.
-
Play as Tibet for a challenge. :P

Na Tibet is stupid. I tried Luxembourg but failed on capturing Belgium xD. You just have nothing at the beginning. However I played as Siam once and managed to get GB and France to transfer me my claims I had on them (Indochina/India/Singapore region) (through war ofc).

Yea, that area has a lot of different ethnic groups with different backgrounds, languages, etc. so it's extremely hard to keep control of such a wide span of territory. The Austrian Empire dealt with feuds for almost centuries between the Serbians, Hungarians and other ethnic groups.
Whereas Italy and Germany would be relatively easy to control because they are all one ethnic group united by a common language.

I already captured whole South/North America with Argentina. The main problem is the USA it gurantees the independence of nearly every south american country.

I captured the Soviet Union as Bulgaria but then I had an awful time trying to hunt down Partisans and fight off the United States attacking through Manchuria. My armies were strong but I just couldn't get supplies over there. I still don't understand a lot of things. :P

War Goal + Let Germany do all the work doesn't count! If so I managed to capture Germany/Italy with Canada :P (as no allied member actually has a war goal on them only me).
Most people don't care about command structure (HQ's) however in large operations they guarantee the flow of further supplies. In addition the leaders share their abilities on every division/HQ under them which basically means a "Logistics Wizard (-25% Supply Consumption) however it will split the effect on those units, example:
You got a XXX HQ (Corps(3 Star HQ)) which has 5 divisions under it. If the leader of the Corps has the "Logistics Wizard" ability every division will have -5% Supply Consumption. Keep in mind that the Corps has the full effect which is -25%.
Furthermore there is another effect called "Commando" which gives you a "+20% Out of Supply Bonus" which means the divisions will fight with better efficiency if they run out of supplies.
Then under technology you are able to research for example "guerrilla warfare" which will decrease the Supply Consumption of HQ's (there are a lot of other things to research to increase Supply Throughput as well as decrease the Supplies Transfer Costs).
Another possibility are politics -> Heavy Industry Emphasis -> Minsters that decrease Supply Consumption by 10% and Ministers that increase Supply Production by 20%.
Last but not least the strategic effects, there are a lot but only a few will actually give you better supply throughput and more ressources. The last thing are strategic ressources = horses = 20% better supply throughput.

I didn't set a war goal and don't really know how I got control of Russia. I did happen to capture more VPs than Germany I guess.
Yeah I tried all of those things but still had supply issues in Siberia. Maybe my technology was a bit behind. Do supply planes help?
-
Do supply planes help?
Yes they do. Also you may consider building more infrastructure in the backland so you get more supplies :P.

I avoid gamey expansions like that because realistically that would be impossible and silly, plus its most likely you don't have enough troops to cover the front in expansions like that. But, its still impressive.
I have built a few empires, my most famous being Italy- Grabbed the Balkans, Most of Southern Russia, Turkey, Half of France, Spain, Portugal, all of Africa(That can be crossed), The Arabic nations, Persia/Afagn, Switzerland and Luxemburg(Paradrop ;) ). I didn't consider it gamey because I could cover all the land and the British/Soviets were fighting me every step of the way :) . I eventually couldn't go farther into India/ Russia because of supply lines, and the Royal Navy/USN was still a powerful force so I stopped it there. Sorry I don't have a picture, it was 3.06 Beta.
