Title: No communtity activity?
Post by: Wekwekboris on December 09, 2012, 08:35:34 AM
Lately no one is online and I can only compstomp. Did the players of EF decrease lately?

I played quite a few games about 6 hours ago.

IMO yes, there are less EF ppl. Your best (and tbh probably only) chance is to friend a bunch of EF players and hope they are online the times u r online and want to play PvP

Who want to play ?

Defiantly less people. Probably due to the lack significant  updates added to the game

Really?  Did EF have more ppl on in its earlier years?

for sure. there was always discussions going on constantly. now its not to strange to go close to a week without any new comments on the board

Most of the active players are balancers, and they're usually just playing on the next game version (beta) or posting in the internal balance section.  Other frequent players have either rage quit or play less due to RL / other games.

Other probable reasons could be because of CoH2, which will feature the Russians, leaving EF nothing really special to compete with, and also because the Ostheer still isn't out yet after all this time.

Yauz pretty much summed it up :P

Yeah, EF is pretty much dead. The competetive players are either part of balance team or are waiting for OH.

My friends and I have alot of fun LAN'ing EF, the only drawback is with the IS2 having some issues recently the russians lost some late game punch. Fingers crossed for a patch soon

I'm up for a game now and then.

I just think its easier to communicate, ask for a match when using a different channel then coh itself to arrange matches.
Also planning a game days before it actually takes place is difficult because there are so many things that can get between it..

Thats why compstomping or just playing with friends is a better solution..

I would suggest, share some other contact details and ask around when you want a game.
I'm sure someone will be up for it ;)

When I'm at home and up for a game, I'm always on skype.
So thats an easy way to contact me.
My skype name is mattias0123.

Why is Ostheer taking so long? i understand its all volunteer work but so are Mods like Blitzkrieg,  Europe in ruins, Modern Combat. And it seems like they are always coming out with huge updates with units and vehicles Ive never heard even of before.
Title: Re: No communtity activity?
Post by: GodlikeDennis on December 10, 2012, 12:43:27 PM
Because just adding units is easy and the devs could pump out hundreds of them if that was wanted. Actually forming a decent faction that is unique (in a game with 5/6 factions already) and plays well is something else entirely. The goal is to create a use for every unit and distinguish it from other units already in the game, not spam a million units for one job.
Title: Re: No communtity activity?
Post by: Pac-Fish on December 10, 2012, 12:47:40 PM
And also I believe the devs dont want another scenario where they release a faction that is unbalanced and everyone starts bitching again. Thats not my opinion, its just what I've observed
Title: Re: No communtity activity?
Post by: Viperthug91 on December 10, 2012, 01:00:53 PM
I understand that to a sense but how unique can a faction truly be when they (at least in several scenarios) are taking an ability from one faction and giving it to others. such as (partisans appearing in any building just like fallschirmjager)  panzer elite treadbreakers and the at rifle. Luftwaffe strafing attack and the russian version of it. just examples. and i completly understand the balanceing aspect but but when the russians first came out i dont know if they had even had balancers at the time cause it would have literally taken one game to see how out of wack that was. So as long as it was balanced enough to have fun win some and lose some is 100% fine with me as im sure most others because it is impossible to have a true 100% balance in my opinion
Title: Re: No communtity activity?
Post by: GodlikeDennis on December 10, 2012, 03:53:45 PM
If Russians had good balancers in the first place, it would've been released later and not be so terribly broken. It would then be more likely we would have a larger community today. Ostheer would be nowhere near balanced at release but at least it could have a semi-decent design, unlike the horrendous 1.0 Soviets.

I would be already very pleased if the design for the beta is setup and everything is coded. Keep it coming Devs!  8)

I don't do compstomps with people, that's just boring.

to answer question, mod is not dead, but played not as much as it should be. if you want pvp, use the chat login in the launcher, dankos pub in the forums, or always the best option, get some real life friends to play the game and mod.

It's got flaws that need to be improved upon.

Fish I just realized you're a big contradiction

"Axis Commander"
"Poster of the Soviet Union"

Maybe Im employing paradoxical intention  ;D ;D

But I think if that chat box was on the side, it would be more helpful rather than having to log in to use. Like anonymous users. People don't have the will to make an account just to use a chat box. And also the "Remember password thing is still messed up :P

Posts should contain something else, not a smiley or a +1 or a quote of the some posts only(or any combination of them) otherwise are just bumping the thread and not really stating anything. Although many of us have done it before and we haven't enforced any policy about it before. Maybe we should start doing it because would be the normal thing to do.

 I really love EF, myself.
Still play it regularly. Although me and GF just got into the COH2 beta ;)

Looking forward to OstHeer. / Also, for people saying player base would be larger if you had waited before releasing EF ? AND 'not having released OstHeer yet'.
That's a contradiction in terms. If Soviets were still not released, I think people'd have given up by now. If OstHeer 1.0 were released horribly bugged, you'd still
complain about them :p /// Stop complaining or show us you are better by making your own damn EF mod :p

good to see you again loup! well put, and let us know how CoH2 is when you're beta testing!
Title: Re: No communtity activity?

I'll be honest, I get annoyed when I see ppl say "if you don't like it make your own mod". Obviously we don't know how to mod, other wise modding in general would be going along relatively faster. We ask about these things cause we (the community) are curious. I mean sure, some ppl are very rude and modding is hard and balancing is also hard, but it's an open forum. People have a right to ask. And plus some ppl don't have the patience to look through threads and read list to see how things are going; I certainly dont.

How do you guys have get the Axis Commander icons on your profile?
Title: Re: No communtity activity?
Post by: Loupblanc on December 12, 2012, 11:03:17 AM

Lord Bishop, Diablo, and so forth also didn't know how to mod, once upon a time.
They had a vision, and wanted it done, so they learned. I don't see how modding COH1 was taught into School, or anything of the sort ;)

Am just annoyed at comments of how EF ought to been delayed till purrfectly balanced, while OstHeer ought to have been released already.
And that it's the DEV's fault if EFs population is down. COH2 is at the doors! Personally, I used EF to train for COH2 and love you guys for it.
It - really - helped a lot actually.

That being said, I will still play COH1 after COH2 is released. Oh, I'll still play COH2 more... ;) But, ah, they're not the same game ;)
And, I want to see what you guys can do with the OstHeer, so do a good job okay? And ignore the Trolls ;D

The Axis, Soviet and Allied commander badges in the forum are due to participation in the Great Patriotic War event.

Well I agree about how EF trained us well since I'm playing COh2 Alpha. I play with Soviets only and made 20 1v1 games I guess, I lost only to 12azor and Ipkaifung by VP count after 45mnts game each.

But EF atm, much more better than COH2. I know it's at the Alpha stage but original COH dynamics still offer much more fast pace game than COH2.

Completely agreed to Rigg's post. Once CoH2 is released, we'll see a lot of players switching back to EF because of the unique CoH1 engine they're used to.

good to know riggsman, and congrats about the win/loss ratio, very cool about games with 12azor and such, really awesome!

It's pretty rare for me to get an EF match, even for a Friday afternoon.  What's even more frustrating is when there is only 1 game hosted in the lobby and you get kicked out by the damn host :(, they not even realizing that it will be like another 25+ minutes before they get another player.  Going to have to rely more on the community on the forum to schedule some matches.  I'm sure EF would be the best if there were just more people online.  Participation is most important!

People do play, it's just with all these new patches everyone is all over the place and trying to get caught up ATM.  Once Ostheer is complete, a whole ton more people will join the community since many people have been waiting for it and it will be the time when the mod will rise up again.  The question is, when and how?

Go to the main page of this forum and see which time the most people on this forum were on, which was January 2010 with 751 users online.  Right now its less than 7x what it is now on average.  That gives me a feeling that EF in its early years was (2010) is probably the year this mod was extremely alive.

Go back to the cited page and compare the number of members in the EF Community then and now. In April 2010 it was ~ 5000 IIRC now it is closer to 12000!
