Title: Favorite Game/Developers
Post by: Tehcumseh on January 01, 2013, 12:24:09 PM
I've been playing a multitude of games on my winter break and I've been thinking about the developers and which developers make the best game.

So i'd like to know your favorites. Please don't take into account corporations such as, EA, Activision etc. as they don't make games just publish them. Also please explain the reasons for why you enjoy them.

My List:
Ubisoft: Assassins Creed Series, Farcry Series, Every Tom Clancy Game, World in Conflict and ZombiU
Bethesda: Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls Series and great taste in publishing games(i know i said to stay away from publishers but they published a large variety of good games such as, Dishonored, RAGE and so on.
DICE:Battlefield series(It blows Call of Duty out of the water in every way) New Medal of Honors(all the old MoH's were my childhood)
Relic: Company of Heroes 1 & 2, Warhammer 40k Space Marine, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 1 & 2.
The Creative Assembly: Total War Series and they are working on a Warhammer Fantasy game that sounds promising  :P
Rockstar: Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne, L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption.
Torn Banner Studios:As of now they only have Chivalry: Medieval Warfare but its great and i hope they continue there game making

My favorites are

Bethesda: For the beloved Fallout 3 and New Vegas and Elder Scrolls Games

The Creative Assembly: For every Total War game ever (still not sure which one is the best)

Ensemble Studios: The now defunct Microsoft Dev Studio that brought us Age of Empires 1-3, my favorite RTS games of all time.

Firaxis: For Civilization 3 and 4 as well as some other great strategy games

MicroProse: For Civilization 2 and the original one and of course X-COM

Paradox Dev Studio: For some ridiculously awesome grand strategy games such as Europa Universalis series, Hearts of Iron series, as well as for Mount & Blade and Magicka

Square Enix: For  Final Fantasy 1-13 (hopefully the re-release of 14 will be amazing) and my much beloved Kingdom Hearts series.

Ubisoft: For Assassins Creed of course

Just FYI.

So i'd like to know your favorites. Please don't take into account corporations such as, EA, Activision etc. as they don't make games just publish them. Also please explain the reasons for why you enjoy them.

Ubisoft: Assassins Creed Series, Farcry Series, Every Tom Clancy Game, World in Conflict and ZombiU
Rockstar: Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne, L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption.

Ubisoft is a publisher, and Rockstar is ~10 different development studios ;). Even tho Ubisoft wholly owns many of the studios that made the games, so does EA wholly own DICE, and THQ wholly own Relic.

Farcry 1 was made by Crytek (the guys now doing Crysis).
Rainbow 6 series was mostly made by Red Storm Entertainment (now renamed Ubisoft Red Storm)
World in Conflict was made by Massive Entertainment (now renamed Ubisoft Massive)
Other Tom Clancy was made by other studios.

Same goes with rockstar, Rockstar North made most the GTA series.
Rockstar Vancouver made Max Payne.
LA. Noire was made by Team Bondi.
RDR was made by Rockstar San Diego.

Nope no AoE 4 or 5, the group has been broken apart and the last AoE game (AoE Online) is garbage

Old Relic (for DoW, CoH)
Ensemble Studios (for AoE and AoM)
CA (TOTAL WAR!)
Bioware (for everything excluding DA2)
LucasArts (Pretty much any SW game)

Nobody will agree with me on this last one, but EA. They do develop some good games like CnC:Generals or BFME. They get a lot of crap for being money whores but that's true of all the big publishers like THQ, Blizzard etc. and their sports games are actually pretty good if you ignore the fact there's a new one every year. So basically, I like the developer side of EA but not the publishing side.
