Company of Heroes: Eastern Front

The mod has been in "development" for a VERY VERY long time (2 years)
Is it really this hard to make a mod or are they also helping other mods?
-
CoH is one of the hardest 'moddable' games to mod. The Eastern Front team has always been at the forefront of CoH modding, and we have spent most our time inventing and developing techniques to do it, rather than the actual content.
-
We've had to overcome obstacles ourselves, with little or no help outside the Dev team. Also, don't forget that we've been doing this in our spare time.

Oh so you haven't relay started. Oh ok i see your making the tools to start the modding, WHILE making the mod! Dang you guys need to be getting payed for this!
-
Oh so you haven't relay started
We have almost finished content-wise.
-
So what kind of things do you guys still have left to do?

Yeah but your also making a new mod system. Will you release this to the public?
-
We still need to add final pieces of content, iron out the bugs and run the final closed beta test (which involves finding further bugs and rebalancing). This could take any amount of time, but we are starting to work to a bit of a deadline.
-
sounds good, hope you won't find any big bugs.
-
... we are starting to work to a bit of a deadline.
This is great news. I'm glad to see some solid information on project status. Keep up the good work.

WOW that is amazing!! :) Will you guys release any of your new modding tools for public use?

They made Techniques for modding, not a new system

Ah now i see! :) It is still an amazing feat though. This is going to be a great mod and I can't wait till it comes out.
Some people are saying that the mod is going to be highly power full for the Russians and that it is going to leave all other countries in the dust. Is this some what true? Lets take an example of the Russians v panzer elite. Will the Russians just swap them off the table??? I mean it will be a long closed beta to weakin down some units so they can match other units especially sense this will be the fifth country. And when the ostheer will come out that is going to take a very long time to beta test since there will be 6 countries in all right???

The Soviets aren't OP. They have a really weak early game, they don't start with any units so have a slow start. And conscripts are cheap but they will get cut up pretty quickly especially when they don't all have rifles. They can't get MGs in their support barracks, but they have heavy mortars, sniper teams, and tank hunter teams (which I doubt would be all that effective). Soviet Infantry can't recrew weapons or retreat either. Soviet Tanks, from what I've seen and heard, are very well balanced with German tanks. Lastly, when the beta comes around there will be plenty of feedback on balance. So there is no way the Soviets will be overpowered!
-
Nbeerbower... you sound almost like you have access to the pre-beta :P Good to see our explainations are understandable.

Yeah, that was all from what I remember reading and my interpretations of the guide. :P

Ah ha you said the anti tank guns arn't gonna be usefull??? I have used several high name mods with Brittish anti tank gun teams and let me say that they CAN'T take on a tank BUT a halftrack would have problems if ambushed

I was reading on the moddb fourm and one of the developers said that the mod WILL come out this year!! Can any of the developers confirm this????

Look at some of the abilities as well, and then think of strategies that would surround them.
I believe the AT gun has tread (thread?) breaker, which would immoblize (or damage engine) a tank.
You could then move in with infantry, either the AT gun infantry, or just infantry with Krak grenades.
Don't forget that in their current design doc, the USSR has some of the best tanks around, so this would also be a counter for wehr tanks.

I know youve answered this question before, but is there any decision on an open beta?
And realistically is the closed beta restricted to devs only or people who have applied?
And when will it be?
-
There may never be an 'open beta' as such. We will have a rigorous Closed Beta, which will include developers, high-profile players, a careful selection of those who applied, and maybe some VIPs from a certain game development company. Professional games journalists are also welcome :-X
When we feel we have achieved 'releasable' status, version 1.00 will become up for download, and the widespread fun begins!
