Eastern Front Hotfix 1.04

We'd like to apologise for the issues brought by Patch 1.02. It would seems the issue fixed by (Hotfix) 1.03 was only a small part of a larger problem that included a number of files in the DataAttrib folder to become corrupted and incomplete.

A patch fixing this issue will be released today, as soon as possible.
(A fixed version of the popular 2v2 map Zhytomyr will also be included, solving AI related issues.)

Could you use this hotfix to correct the "Eastern_Front.French.ucs" first line "18010000   Soviétique" to "18010000   Soviétiques" please ? It take only a second and i'll stop boring you :p

so that's why numbers of mentioned changes won't work right?

like Sharpshooter's Artillery now available as a 75MU upgrade on individual sharpshooter squads or Strelky Upgrade - Once researched squads have the Red banner and have 2 upgrade options at no cost available. Either get two DP-28s OR they all switch to PPSH. Sprint comes with the PPSh upgrade while the 'not being able to move and health bonus' comes with the DP-28 upgrade (there are no such things atm).

This is prehaps one of the best game modifications I've seen in a long time. I never expected to see something of this scale and quality for an RTS like Company of Heroes.

Everything about the Soviet faction is just superb. Realistic attention and quality of detail to all Soviet units, the voice acting, audio effects and abilities. Pretty much, all top notch. Most notable about Eastern Front in general however is your quick reaction to feedback and detection of bugs/issues. Not many developers are this quick to respond and satisfy us players.

I do have some questions:

-Why don't the Sharpshooters have the camoflague ability like American/Werchmat snipers?
-Soviets use Panzer Elite music? Was this intentional?
-Why disallow Soviets to man unmaned weapons?
-You recently reworked the Strelky's improvement to allow two types of weapon upgrade. The description sounds like you get to choose. Instead, the squad spawns with new weapons randomly. Can you explain?

If I may, I have to make a lot of suggestions or note things for future updates:

-Conscripts squads do not display the number of current and total of all members in each squad.
-The Breakthrough strategy says IS-2's can dig in. No ability is visible when you select it. It feels like a waste of points grabbing the ability in the Breakthrough tree if we can't use it.
-The audio for all the Soviet tank MGS (inlcuding AA), the sharpshooter/guard/sniper ace rifle and the Strelky/Guard SMG/LMG isn't very satisfying. Could be improved?
-The Command Squad apparently grants nearby infantry improved offense/defense. There is no visible effect or difference in battle. And the damage seems more equivalent to a 2 rather than 1. It's a good thing, but I feel the info card should note 2 or something.
-"The Not One Step Back!" ability uses a Werchmat ability picture in the panel instead of that displayed in the ability tree. Also, it uses the description of the Werchmat Terror Doctrine ability that forces an Allied squad to retreat to base.
-No voice acting plays when an ability from the ability tree is acquired. Is this a bug or intentional?
-The Stelky Squad's description in the Mustering Barracks is too brief. Could it be a little more descriptive?
-There is no audio for when a Soviet building or the Artillery Firebase is selected. Could this be implemented?
-Allow the choosing of the new weapon upgrades for Red banner Strelky and showing improved damage on the info card when upgraded?
-The Anti-Tank Weapon Team plays no audio when ordered to move, when ordered to attack or when under fire. Is this a bug?
-All Soviet Tanks speak their qoutes out aloud rather than through a radio. Is this intentional or a bug?
-Fix the Sharpshooter's artillery spotter ability so it can be accquired and usable.

Otherwise, all is well. You deserve a big applause for your work and a realistic interpretation of Russian warfare in the Second World War. Eastern Fronts is the perfect addition to Company of Heroes, and I would well recommend it to anyone. Can't wait to see the Ostheer, whoever they may be.

Edit:

-Officer of Command Squad performs no animations to suggest he's using binoculars to scout area when used, or to signal allied forces to commence light artilerry barrage when used.
-Sharpshooter reinforcements cost 110 points each, way too much to warrant production. Should be between 17-25. Also, reinforcement says conscription instead of "Reinforce Sharpshooter".
-Strelky reinforcements says conscription instead of "Reinforce Strelky".
-Mechanics and their ability to salvage are two abilities apart? Until you get salvage, mechanics are almost useless, especially early/mid game. To compensate, they should be better able to do slightly higher damage or defend themselves. They should also have the ability to salvage munitions to make them more worthwhile.
-Conscripts and NVDK Conscripts both incorrectly display total and current numbers of squad members. Also, NVDK conscript infocard show no increase in damage output. Should list as +2.
-Soviet Tank Fuel Costs, minus light tank and AA tank, have too high fuel costs that need reducing between 25-35%. Otherwise, Soviet tank production is disadavantaged compared to Axis/American/British counterparts.
-Spelling/Grammar errors in T-34/85 and SU-85
-Units with Ambush should have conditions "Not Moving, In/Behind Cover"
-Strelky damage output should be increased by 2 to even out with non-upgraded Grenadiers/Panzer Grenadiers/Infantry Section. Also, squads should show improved damage output when upgraded.
-Guard damage output should be increased by 2 or 3 to even them out with most upgraded squads such as Rifleman/Infantry Section/Panzer Grenadiers/Commandos. Also, info card does not show increase in damage. Should list as +2.

зделайте более дешевыми советские танки, потому как это не исторично и на баланс очень сильно влияет с худшей стороны! pantera costs 600, 110 and T-34 costs 300, 75! it is not normal, T-34 must cost maximum 50 fuel. SU-75 must maximum cost 75 fuel. Becouse the Soviet panzer's were very cheap and were easy in production.

That's a mistake, it should upgrade to Red Flag, but then you choose either PPsHs or DPs. It'll be fixed later today, or at least very very soon.

* NKVD upgrade now costs 125. Upgrade now re-equips entire unit with new 'Conscript Mosin2' with Damage 7.

Its still 200 munitions and aren't you guys over nerving the russians they are pretty weak right now, good thing though that the tank hunters got some extra abilities and range.

We are not making copies of the Americans or Wehrmacht, these soldiers are Sharpshooters, not the skilled Snipers of the other sides. If you want a sniper, use the Sniper Ace in the Urban Combat doctrine - which is even better than the Vanilla sniper

We, and no one, has the ability to add new races to the man an unmanned weapon bit in a unit's file. Hardcoded - unless Relic changes that.

I would guess this is an issue brought about by the corrupted 1.02 patch, 1.04 should fix this - as said in the first post...

I don't know if it's Relic's server issue or not, but neither myself or two friends have been able to get EF launched. It gives us a verification problem. I started Tales of Valor and it can get into the game to play fine, but EF won't do that.

After patching to 1.04 and playing through today, I've noticed a fair amount of difference, and some new bugs.

Here is my mixed bag of feedback:

-The defense ratings of the tanks are largely mediocre. Light tanks are fine, but medium and heavy are weak compared to their Axis counterparts, same with their firepower. The reduction in resource costs however is an absolute positive. Now they are more producable. Excellent timing! With a bit of armor and firepower tweaking, they will be well-rounded. Then, they'll just need spelling/grammar checks. =)

-Red Banner Strelky upgrade system fully works. SMG upgrade displays improved damage output and sprint ability works! LMG displays improved damage output and Stand Your Ground! ability works! I must admit, the LMG damage is very poor. Aside from the ability, the upgrade is not highly useful. Prehaps the LMG can be revised to work like the Britsh Infantry Section's Bren Machinegun Upgrade? (And the sound, argghh it's awful) I honestly feel like sticking with the more reliable SMG (And it's the Partisan's SMG!!! Excellent audio, keep it). I feel the upgrade descriptions should mention the added abilities, so players can see how worthwhile either will be. Aside from that, Red Banner Strelky's can now  close the gap in infantry battles during mid/late game. Well done!

-Sharpshooters now have thier artillery spotting upgrade, and it works! Good to have it back. And you've balanced their recruitment time with Werchmat/American Snipers. They still have a 110 Manpower cost to reinforce. Too high. Makes me want to save manpower for other squads.....

-Gaurds don't show any damage improvement when upgraded to Shock Gaurds. Aside from being able to surpress infantry, there don't seem that much better.

-I noticed you removed the Tank Rider T-34's ability to capture points when garrisioned. That kinda defeats its purpose. Plus, the description in ability tree/panel says it can capture points when garrsioned!

-Those bugged maps are fixed! Happy fun time blowing up Axis on those maps!

-Still no clue how many conscripts/NVDK conscripts present in squads or total number.

-Not One Step Back! in Urban Combat abiliy tree still uses Terro Doctrine picture and description in panel.

-Discipline ability on NVDK conscripts does not execute a squad member. NDVK conscript squads are also more fragile than normal conscripts. Should be vice versa (NVDK more damage resistant versus conscripts).

-Strelky squad description in Mustering Barracks still short and boring!

-Tankhunters are way too fragile!

-"Inspired Speech" ability in Breakthrough tree uses Blitzkrieg tactics description.

Anyway, there we go. Grats on 1.04. Lots of stuff to still be done! Already waitng on 1.05. =)

That said, 1.04 is more of a fix then a main update, ;).

- Changed armour type of flag bearers to "heroic".
- SU-100 armour type changed to "churchill"
- T-34/85 rotation speed changed to 38. Armour type changed to "churchill"
- ZiS-2 crew + Mortar crew- armour hanged to "airborne"
- Sharpshooter team build time increased to 50 seconds, Spotter armour type changed to "heroic"


You tell me what's going on with the armor?

That said, 1.04 is more of a fix then a main update, ;).
He didn't criticise the patch and i think he has done a good job spotting the bugs thus helping the modders .
I've loved this patch since the beginning . thx for the support.

Always AI have double strength than me,and overwhelm me always with large forces.
In all maps,from small to large,1v1,2v2,reading the final score,computer always have double manpower.In the early period when i can barely afford few units,computer send waves of soldiers.

In the last game 2v2,playing with russians and having allied also russians,i was amazed about the large allied army.It was three time than me,from the early,till the medium/late period of the game,when i finally manage to bring some tanks and increase number of infantry.Where i struggle to get some resource,AI have and spend/waste ALLOT far more for units and upgrades.It seems don't even have problem at this point.Where we share the same number of resource,the balance of force is far unbalanced...

I like overall balance of the last patch,but not about what i told

...it is absurd....is something wrong there...

Maybe dont play on Hard? The AI always cheats and on Hard it seems to have 2 times manpower income. So especially against a soviet hard ai its fucking complicated to win!

I made many battle with easy,medium and hard difficulty.

This patch it seems to be ok with that exception.Manpower is a pain for russians.They loose allot of units in short time,and are unable to recruit another enough fast,to hold the line,or even to push the enemy back.Manpower grow damn slow,when the units die so fast against armored cars,MG,mortars...in early period...and from other reasons late...

I can't even afford to buy mortars and AT cannons...just  few(2 or 3),and that very very hard,because i am forced to spend many resources for infantry,to be able to hold the line... and if i loose this few pieces,chance for victory will fall toward zero...slow but sure...
Victory is gained now with ALLOT of luck on normal difficulty,and strategy and tactics are waste of time.Some good maneuvers  for killing some units,is a waste of time,because in short time will come another,and another wave,stronger,and much stronger...is a madness...

To win against hard AI it seems to be impossible with russians.
If someone manage to do that,i am curious to see replay.
To beat expert computer in 1v1...is a stupidity just to think or dare..

I told....is something wrong with manpower balance in this patch...in my opinion...

Edit: maybe the problem is from bonuses from difficulty level,and not from faction balance.It is nonsense to make hard and expert like impossible,for one player who beat expert AI always,in vanilla game or another mods...

AI here is far much more improved than other mods or CoH-ToV,but bonuses who make one AI to be able to humiliate two experienced allied players,or three with less experience.. is ... nonsense...

I know it hasn't exactly been that long since Eastern Front was released, and there is a lot to do. I have quite simply pointed out a long list of bugs/errors/glitches that I'm concerned and addressed them, while commenting on some other stuff. Believe me, I'm working with a mod team for Freespace 2 and running one myself, so I know what it is like.

Sometimes, it isn't that difficult to win a battle as Soviets. You just got to know the units and their capabilities while also making sure to expand early in the game. I often suffered from this until I learned to just move and do it. It's like that with most battles. The early bird reaps the major rewards, while the slow turtle gets the few leftovers. As soviets, you have to be that early bird. With 1.04, it has started to become a bit more fair and balanced. Soon, they will blossom into a perfectly balanced and fully-fledged army ready to kick some Panzer and Werchmat butt.

While this isn't patch related, I'd like to ask. I wish to create a COH shortcut that loads Eastern Front so I don't have to run the launcher all the time. Can someone help me out there?

Thats exactly what I said when talking to one of the developers. They made it back to 300mp and 70 fuel which is legit.

I agree.

Also, Guards upgraded to Shock Guards doesn't seem to make any damage/defensive difference.

After 1.04 it seems a bit better however. Keep up the good work guys.

I have noticed that after patching to 1.04, the map Zhytomyr is missing. I understand it was "gone" since 1.02 due to the bug, but I had thought that it was back on 1.04. I can see the file in my directory, so it's just the map not showing up in the list. I'm not certain as I have yet to check individually, but some other maps may not be showing up in the list as well.

Also, I have to echo some of what has been said here. One of which is that the tank raiders can no longer capture points. Is this done on purpose or still a bug? If it's on purpose, then the description needs to be changed.

On a smaller and very minor detail (I noticed some small details), the strelky infrantry has some issue with the upgrade. When I upgrade to ppsh, the other option disappears and the upgrade starts, which is fine. But if I were to upgrade to LMG, the ppsh upgrade option remains, and only disappears after the upgrade is complete. Not game-breaking or anything. Just thought I'd point it out.

All in all, good work on the changes/balances. I do hope a hotfix to fix the map issues will be released, though. I'm eager to try out the fixed up Zhytomyr map  :)

I have not encountered that Strelky upgrade error you mentioned, so.....don't know what's going on there. Both SMG and LMG upgrades work just fine. And I cannot hide that the SMG upgrade just rocks. Seriously, PPSH just rocks. Here in Eastern Front, it can really turn the tide of battle against Werchmat/Panzer Elite troops, especially when employed by several squads.

Anyone help with this shortcut thing?

Seriously, PPSH just rocks. Here in Eastern Front, it can really turn the tide of battle against Werchmat/Panzer Elite troops, especially when employed by several squads.

Anyone help with this shortcut thing?

Well, it's not an "error" so to speak. It's a very minor thing. Here's how to recreate it. Build strelky, select, then click on "upgrade to LMG". You'll notice that the button to upgrade to ppsh still remains, and is clickable and will go into the "queue". But when the LMG upgrade is done, the ppsh button disappears. As I said, not game breaking or anything, nor buggy. Just a minor detail, perhaps to be done when polishing up the mod  :)

And yeah, ppsh ROCKS! it was only thanks to a couple squads of ppsh strelkys that I could fend off a couple of panzer elites and prevent them from blowing up my very expensive tank  ;D

It looks like the problem with Zytomyr could be its directory, the sga if you open it, doesnt go data/scenarios/mp its onlt got data

i was indeed able to get zytomyr working by simply extracting files to my documents/my games/ company of heroes/ww2/data/scenarios/MP and opening with map maker and re-exporting to sga, this solved the problem it had of not showing up

Then we can only hope that they will do that soon - releasing an official Patch... But from the other side it would be massively sized... I guess that they will have to include the entire EF mod in this patch in order to bring up the stats for USSR...

Or you guys think that it will be different (like two patches - with and without mod)?

I'm with augustbaine - Zytomyr map is not on the map list - disappeared after updating to 1.04.  Not sure how to fix this manually, guess I'll wait for the next patch?  Other than that, this mod/expansion rocks!!!  A+ to the Dev. team!!

I gotta agree with some people here, the IL2 Sturmovik is fairly weak now.

I'm happy with most of the balances made by the devs, but for the last ability on the tree, the IL2 Sturmovik is weak.

It's not enough to make any kind of game impact for its huge cooldown. Vet 3 armor is hardly affected.

It just flow 1 time over me and blow my hummel away. one time. With the 2nd time also my mortal halftracks and at least also my 2nd hummel, and that beast was still not done. It kills in a great area, and even tanks cant stand these massive damaging bombs.

 "Two (not upgraded) conscript squads on one  Volksgrenadier squad (not upgraded with MP40) = Volksgrenadier  is winner..."  WTF???

Generally conscript are very weak, but not that weak. Lowering Armor construction yard from 115 Fuel to 100 Fuel is better.
But this mod is more then Good it's excelent!!!

Before you make comments like this, be sure you are talking about the nerfed IL2 Sturmovik, because what you described sounds like the original. The nerfed IL2 S is NOTHING even close to what you stated.

I don't know about others, but I've been playing CoH since 2007, mainly as a Wehr player.

The recent balances you guys have done are excellent, but I must say, the last abilities on the tree, such as IL2 Sturmovik are no longer effective, considering the large amount of CP points needed and huge cool-down timers.

Even the upgraded Inginery (which I love) get suppressed if axis infantry sneezes too loudly.

The call-in T34 is virtually useless for 750mp now that it can't  cap points. <EDIT> Forgot about dismount!

Is the command squad supposed to give any kind of bonus? I'm not quite sure, but if it does, there is virtually no difference.

Russia don't have too many problems with fuel,because is spend just for tanks.Their primary problems are with  manpower,because mortality rate is high....secondary with ammo.... and fuel remaining the last worry(relative)...

Manpower in hard battles is drained very fast,and spending 750 MP for one unit,when can be recruited one very powerful(IS-2,with some fuel),or two T-34...or combinations...like tank plus sniper,or tank plus AT gun...etc...where is the point with 750 MP.. ? ...what is the advantage..?..

Reward from command points must be something special,but this is far to be any major advantage.This infantry tank guard can be useful,but is nothing special from other who can be recruited.I prefer to recruit one T-34 and any infantry i want if i need....depending what is most useful or need in that moment,and difference in price will be very close...just with fuel change...

This tank is useful JUST one,and used JUST for capturing unprotected or weak guarded points....no more than that...is no worth...

For the 750mp you get a squad worth 2 squads worth 400ish manpower each (T-34 is like 400mp right? and Guards are like 300mp, so yah), without the fuel cost.

I prefer to give 160 fuel and with that MP i will take IS-2.

Also with little more MP(250) i take ISU-152

Many alternatives can be made and this tank with riders will be nothing so special.

So what's the big deal?

My suggestion for making this unit effective is to give ability to tank guards to drop the AT grenade without need to unmount from the tank.This grenade can have 30 sec recharge time,and 75% chance to damage the engine or destroy the wheels...but little damage to vehicle.Also grenades for infantry can be thrown without need to dismount.If this will be made,will be far more useful that special team. Until tan... no...in my opinion...who also can be wrong,of course...

What about Command Squad? Is it technically supposed to give you some kind of bonus (any) to infantry?

Непонимаю, а где скачать заявленные патчи к этому приятному моду ? Есть только EF_Patch_1.01 и EF_Launcher_Update-2.4. А где патчи 1.02, 1.03 и 1.04 брать ?

Нужно кликнуть "Check for Updates" когда открыт EF_Launcher.

You need the latest launcher. That launcher is bugged. IUf you look around on the front page you'll find it there.

Just found a glitch I thought I'd mention. It's the Mortar Team and Tank Hunters. They appear to be using Strelky voice files on certain cases:

-Tank Hunters when selected and under fire/attacking
-Mortar Team when selected while nothing is happening, and selected when under fire/attacking

Haven't found anything else that is not already listed

After reinstalling Tales of Valor and finding this really cool mod, I must say that all of you guys involved in the development of this mod have done a superb job! I'm totally dumbstruck by the detail and authenticity of all the russian units in-game that I spent the first hour playing the game just looking at them up-close with the zoom-scroll of my mouse. It is as if you guys came straight from the Relic dev team! it is very well-made in every aspect, although I took the liberty of modifying it a little with corsix mod studio so that I can get right into the action for some major skirmish battles with all AI factions having the resources (90000 max for resources cap) to battle it out with the human opponent, but limiting the population cap to 400 so that it would not be laggy on my PC, and play it out for a few hours straight. All in all, i am all praises for all the work that you put in this mod!  I can't wait for the Ostheer faction that you have in the works! Thanks and more power to you guys!

All your patches only have spoilt red army and have tired out it in full a.s!!!!!! After all these useless patches win for Russians not probably hard!!!!!!!!
I ask you please lower the prices
The tank factory should cost a maximum 90 fuel ,support barracks 40
And still give out to all recruits the weapon  because in game 1944 ear.
 in barracks mast be an armoured car for example ba 64

Alas, 1.5 patch is a very different patch with huge changes in costs/teching options and some further unit balance tweaking. You'll see what I mean once its out...at some point...

all patches but if you get the 1.00 and the Launcher 2.4 update you can update from the launcher and not the DL from ModDB

I was playing a Multiplayer game (I have installed all patches and newest version of Launcher). All EF games so far broke down and my friend (who is playing from Bagdad - no joke) and I (playing from NYC) get the message: "error log file". What is up with that? Has this to do with the EF maps? Are there any fixes for that problem available? Thanks.

I still got the old luncher and my game still works. Its this normal or sould I get it fixed? Will it help if I get the new one?

The game will still work, but it is best to keep everything updated as much as possible. For the sake of a couple of MB, it is worth it.

I like the April fools joke, but on  EF  i can't play as the ostheer in multipalyer or skirmish matches but i can play as soviets, why?

We're still really balancing the Soviets, plus, the Devs have been busy with everyday stuff (life, school, college, uni, work, whatever) for the past few months. Its coming up to summer, so you can probably bet we'll be sacrificing some of that to getting the Ostheer out.

Is the '4p_Zhytomyr.sga' in the 'Eastern Front\Archives' folder? Although, I can't see the module being different, you may need to update the your Eastern_Front.module file under '[data:common:01]' with

archive.13 = Eastern_Front\Archives\4p_Zhytomyr

I still can`t find the map of Zhytomyr.
I found the '4p_Zhytomyr.sga' in the 'Eastern Front\Archives' folder and the 'archive.13 = Eastern_Front\Archives\4p_Zhytomyr' also in the file of Eastern_Front.module .
I use the simple Chinese version.
how can i resolve the problem? thanks

in 1.03,Zhytomyr in the list. but after installed 1.04, Zhytomyr is missing.

Hello guys, when I'm trying to download all the patches 1.02 / 1.03 / 1.04 everytime I get this error ....check the screenshot please.

Our Server with the Patches is currently not available, maybe you try to download the Patches from ModDB *CLICK* (http://www.moddb.com/mods/coheastern-front)

Zhytomyr will be fixed in next patch! ;)

A lot of people trying to get the mod that I've listened to on the chat channels want to know what files are needed to start from scratch. I downloaded every version as they came out myself.

Do you need to download the full 1.0, the launcher, and the 1.04 hotfix? Do you have to download 1.01-1.03 as well? It's not made very clear.

1.0 full -> 1.01 -> 1.02 -> 1.03 -> 1.04

The Launcher update is included in 1.01, and updated to a better version (alot in 1.04).
