Title: [EF] Berlin 1945 (8)
Post by: HerrVoss on May 06, 2011, 07:47:45 PM
Berlin 1945 was originally a map started by Playmobil that I am very privileged to be helping with. Maxi and I have completed the map now and it is available for download and will be included in the next patch. Enjoy :D

Coming up, but I should probably get playmobil's permission first. Now for some new screen shots in the title.

:o Holy shit man, that's a lot of screenshots!

Just click on them to enlarge. I posted a beta link to the map. Just remember, it is a WiP and I did not make it.

Here is the official link.

Yeah but with the amount of time it takes to load each picture, i'll be here all day. :(

Thanks for the link. That has some pretty good pictures, anyway. :)

Looks good, but the Brandenburg gate an Reichstag are a little iffy. The way there were made by the OMG guys was pretty good. And somebody should at least try to re-create this Reichstag -

Guess I'll be making a Reichstag model before long :P

yes Brandenburg gate and Reichstag aren´t so nice but the rest of the map looked good

maybe some one build or finished the berlin map of one of the trailers
this one looked realy awesome

This map is still WiP and he working on both the gate and Reichstag. I am only posting as he is providing the pictures.

Blitzkrieg also is trying to get ahold of this map and updates are also appearing on this page. http://www.blitzkrieg-mod.de/forums/index.php?/topic/2807-8-berlin-1945/ (http://www.blitzkrieg-mod.de/forums/index.php?/topic/2807-8-berlin-1945/)

We will have chance to try it as well ;D!!

note: historicaly, i know its not the americans but the russians who entered in Berlin first, so the map will regain it's historical accuracy when played in Eastern Front Mod.

Certainly looks epic. It's all about how it plays though....even in a 4 vs 4.
Reichstag should really feature as non playable off map backround behind the axis bases - the goal
Title: Re: New Berlin by Playmobil

I think it should be like the mansion in Route N13:
I don't like the idea of having H.Q. sectors where the Axis or Allies are 'supposed' to start, because i usually play with random starting locations.

pariah is right. This would make no sense at all if Reichstag would be behind SU base.

pariah is right. This would make no sense at all if Reichstag would be behind SU base.
I don't think so: making any historical-like map almost certainly (in most cases) excludes visual symmetry, so a fixed starting locations are more than welcomed on that kind of map (as an option for history fanatics).

Hey guys!

note: historicaly, i know its not the americans but the russians who entered in Berlin first, so the map will regain it's historical accuracy when played in Eastern Front Mod.
Don't worry i didn't said that for nothing!
i'm just keeping some doubts about the reichtag and the brandenburg gate, because as u know it, mine are not really accurate, especialy in comparison to the Berlin map that EF and OMG share.
So i think ill contact the map makers to ask them advices about it, because till the moment i saw their screen, it was too late, the way they have built it is hard to forget so trying to do better after seeing it even harder now :(
I knew i was certainly not the first guy to try to map Berlin, so i had 2 ideas:
- to start WITHOUT looking for other Berlin maps.. to stay independant, because as i feared it, it was hard to not be inspired by what i saw after my search when i found your berlin.
- and to name it 'Berlin 1945' hoping nobody ever though about the same name to avoid confusion.

+an other mapper also make a nice Berlin map in EF forum so I was not very hot to post my map here..
untill i read this topic;)
What i can say is that im really happy that u like the screens. So i'll post here all next updatesto the map.

PS : for the spawn postion, i'm affraid this would change the map in a chokepoint map with bridges epic trafic jams if we turn the spawns to make the reichtag on both armies side, not only on axis side..
I wanted a real plan to make the map more interresting, but i was affraid of tactical issues for balancing the game.. thats why i took this shape for the map (based on a soviet assault map) where bridges are not the center of the battle, they are important, but not too much.

For now i'm working on the Tiergarten in front of the reichtag, that will provide half of the battlefield, so i believe its in the middle of this parc that shit will hit the fan ingame.. so i try to make it destroyed, but not to much, il love gardens so i dont want to make the lunar crateers that should actualy replace it.

@Playmobill
Well, if BurroDiablo manages to make a new Reich tag for your map will be awesome. However don't know how much time will that need(i guess a lot - 6 months at least) :-\.
Title: Re: New Berlin by Playmobil

@Playmobil

Play tested your map. The Reichstag and brandenburg gate are next to each other. Can you both remove them further apart?

Pantherturret looks hot. Would be nice when empty shells are lying around.

AI on the german side (brandenburg gate) doesnt work properly.

Nice map

PS: can you make the playable area bigger? next to the brandenburg gate begins the Government District and you could make the park bigger, add trenches and destroyed tigers (there were 5 tigers fighting in the front of the reichstag)
just suggestions

For increasing the maps playable area, you will need to stamp the whole map (or at least the biggest part of it) and then copy it into a new file with a bigger playable area. The normal stamp tool doesn't work, Playmobil will need to get the WB fix that Cope did.
I agree with Killar in every point.
Title: Re: New Berlin by Playmobil
Post by: Playmobill on May 08, 2011, 05:36:37 PM
well there is an other problem than the fixed WB (i already use the fixed one) : the stamp tool has a limit. if your map has too much details, only part of it (and a random part) will be saved. that doesnt seems to depend of the computer, as my new one is nearly a war-machine and it still doesnt change the quantity of object that can be stamped finely.

So to stamp a map like this, i should have done this before reaching this amount of details, because im affraid its far too late now :(
The other way to stamp the whole map is to stamp part by part, but assembling it is a nightmare so i think i have enought work without it ;)

But i can put the reichtag outside as its a simple stamp (dont need to stamp a big area)

For the parc, its already nearly 40% of the whole map so i think is large enought (it cover nearly all the south riverside). Ive already added a wreck of tiger, but i was affraid of axis salvage so i think i will add next wrecks carefully (i prefer adding em on allies side, because they cannot salvage it and they have a chance to break the wreck (give xp + remove the salvage for axis).

last point, i've already been looking for shells for the pantherturn and didnt found any in coh database splats. so i've put bullets instead, better than nothing (splats is zoomed). i believe maybe i can find some NIS shells somewhere, in model, but i dont like the idea of a model since its cylindrical, it will add lots of polys for a so tiny detail, its not good for the optimisation lvl i want to keep.

Post by: Max 'DonXavi' von B. on May 08, 2011, 05:39:52 PM
For me, stamping works fine, for private gaming fun I stamped the whole Lyon map to enlarge the playable area. Maybe your settings are just wrong. If you want, I could stamp the map for you ;)
Title: Re: New Berlin by Playmobil
Post by: pariah on May 08, 2011, 05:42:19 PM
(i prefer adding em on allies side, because they cannot salvage it and they have a chance to break the wreck (give xp + remove the salvage for axis)
Once again, that won't work because of the possibility of swapped/random starting locations. Is it not possible to disable any possible Munitions/XP gain from wrecks?

6 months is pushing it a bit, try... 2 maybe :P But the amount of work that would go into each individual damaged part would be mind numbing.

I hope you are not mad that I shared your work without your permission.
lol i'm proud that you liked the map pics even if its still a beta stage, so don't worry you won't need my permission ;)
+ as you saw it, it was planned since the start to be played in EF mod, so.. ;)
But i was quite worried by the already existing Berlin maps.. EF and OMG has already one, + at least 2 other Berlin map exists, one by Mattdamon in here (actualy Streets of Berlin) and one other from battlefield 1942 ("Berlin 1942" funny to play for BF fans) so.. i didn't want to short-circuit anybody's map..

If its possible to brainstorm about that, i don't want Matt's work to be lost.. maybe we can find a good idea to reconvert all his work.. where were the allies in berlin, when the soviets where in the reichtag ?
that could be an idea (also i can help if he wants us to have the same visuals and athmosphere (its supposed to be the same city, so that would be nice if they look like so). even if its not the same part of Berlin

Don't worry BurroDiablo, i'm not focused on Reichtag and brandenburger, for now my goal is to finish the tiergarten parc and ensure that the ruined riverside and the parc side won't make the map laggy (got to check carefully each tree and each ruinned wall, to remove a maximum of useless walls/trees
Title: Re: New Berlin by Playmobil
Post by: Killar on May 09, 2011, 06:46:51 PM
As in posted above it would be nice if a Berlin map inhabitat Reichstag, Barndenburg gate and the administrative region. Thats what the fighting was for, to conquer these symbols. The actual Berlin map and your map are incorrectly constructed, so that there is no way to build some buildings missing later except for stamping.

@ killar. Your idea sounds interesting but if this is really what you want, try making it yourself! This map is almost done and to make playmobil remake it would just be evil. I am making Berlin map that centers around the brandenburg gate so maybe be inspired and do it for yourself.

I know that can sound weird to host it there for ya, but Relicnews attachement page is out of order (this is where i usualy put files) + i can see the download counter if all links goes to the same file

Could always use Filefront?
I remember that Filefront made good reviews, but it takes more than 3 days to publish the link last time i posted a map, so now i prefer to keep filefront for final releases.
Its because they test the map before, and because sometimes their staff seems to have a lot of work aside so its a bit slow to get a quick beta link for us :(

edit: Ive been told that for my DL link, registration to BK-mod was requiered, so that explain much better the broken link reported :/

DOWNLOAD Berlin 1945 (8P) from sendspace.com (http://www.sendspace.com/file/v6obyj)

will work better now ^-^

I had my first game on the new beta (0.36) and I was very impressed. The few garrison-able buildings turned out to be the center of the fighting and can be pretty easily held with the right squads. The only con of this map is that the AI really needs to be baby sited. They all seem to want to come on the Reichstag side while the enemy totally conquers there side and it all needs to be recaptured. Also, during the final push on the enemy base they all clump up and while the blob prevents the other team from moving, they do not destroy the base, creating to much police work for the player as you try to destroy everything yourself. The only advantage to this I guess is when you are on the losing side.

+1, mate.

I love how the Siegssäule (Victory Column) now looks like. If I am right, there is a VP beneath it? That will cause the AI having big problems, maybe you should have a look at it again.
The atmoshphere of that map can't be described, it's more than authentic and it will be a great replacement for the current Berlin map.

@maxi I am sorry about a lack of updates but the delay has been the same reason as yours. The areas I have been working on are empty patches outside the map and the tedious construction of the Riechstag dome. Hopefully an update this weekend.

Update 2 is here! 8)

Sadly no pictures are available but that won't stop me from giving you the progress. I would say the map is at 90% done and a download will be made available on the next update. All major monuments are done and unmapped areas are filled in. Now I am just making a more debris strew city and adding some trenches to the tergarten. The end is near, looking forward to some beta testing.

so after my first game

it looks pretty good for a wip map
but i would reduce by one VP and the other 4 i would put into a line in the middle. atm both sindes can save the vp next to their base and the only one you must fight it the last in the middle next to the river.

but i need to have more test games to say more

@ evilSpike
I might increase the number of VPs to 7 but we will see. Here are some pictures for you and hopefully more people will play-test the map and leave more feedback. I will be updating the first post as well.

Here is a really cool thing that Playmobil and I have come up with and I know some of you will be very happy to see added. With out further ado, the Berlin Zoo. Also do not worry that it is a different atmosphere because there has to be a difference between his and my map.

Pretty much but it is much better if you look at a picture of both of them right next to each other. I think I will release this map with 2 atmospheres so we have the gloomy dusk and the smokey morning.

i think reichstag has to much damage, in real life it held up pretty well. i think a little less damage on the sides and the front. and maybe some statues and a rubble debris on the top and around. Also some rubble barricades and light defenses around it to, maybe a destroyed flak? anyway good work  ;)

Is it possible to make a bigger reichstag, make a free big place in front of it and remove the brandenburggate?

As the map is based on real Berlin brandenburggate and reichstag were not next to each other.
Title: Re: [WIP] Berlin 1945 (8)
Post by: HerrVoss on January 02, 2012, 10:08:08 PM
I would have to do some major rearranging, as the massive road that leads out of the brandenburg gate would need to be moved right. It is possible, but not a priority at the moment. When the map is completely finished, I will play around with it and let you know.

Hello EF Community!
Here is the most complete beta yet. I really is an epic map and funnest with VP mod on 1000.
Lots of minor changes everywhere, and some major changes in the city ruins:
- Cityscape 90% completed,
- Zoo added,
- a factory also added,
- rail network improved on allies side,
- and Tiergarten Park is now mostly done.
The only remaining 'beta' area is the Reichstag neighborhood, which is still quite nude for now. otherwise, most of the unmapped holes have been filed up.

Thank you so much guys for all your support on this, and sorry again for the delay constant delays between updates, I do to much.

Berlin 1945 beta 0.47 (SGA, 10MB)

I came looking for a new map and download it...
But when I opened the CoH and looked at the file, although the name is "Berlin 1945",but the map itself is same to the Berlin map that comes default with the patch EF.Is it just me or what?

The file size is 11.0+ MB IIRC.I downloaded the map from the first page.Is it just me or what ???.

Thanks for the nice map,on a side note.

Title: Re: [EF] Berlin 1945 (8)

That's because EF Berlin and this version share file names, a "feature" I implemented due to the fact that this version will replace the old Berlin. So instead of this custom map, the EF map is loaded.

I know this Berlin 1945 is supposed to replace Berlin, but I don't see anything on the map identical to the picture on the first page.I do played this map before you updated the first page.I used the 0.47 by that time.

Commited some minor changes to improve pathfinding in the north of the river; likewise I deleted some action markers because they may cause heavy lags when there's too much of them.
But right, I further will look into it and I'll also see if I can clean up some areas regarding textures.

Couple things, more detail has been added to the park, couple more wrecks and knocked out guns and vehicles, we are playing around with optimizing the map so there is less lag and might dry up some of our middle river to signify the SS flooding the subway tunnels. Much more, but this is what I could think of. ;)

I think you should keep it but expand it if you know what i mean and please make a model for the reichstag. I could help if you want by giving you some bits of my map

Relic didn't include the building shaders into the modding tools. So unfortunatly that's impossible. MC did it with simple physics.

well that's a little silly relic didn't give us that perhaps in the future you could import the reichstag from company of heroes 2 if it's worth it.

You know what? im going to practice making a reichstag from world builder objects except for the roof thing that goes above it

Looks good, but the Brandenburg gate an Reichstag are a little iffy. The way there were made by the OMG guys was pretty good. And somebody should at least try to re-create this Reichstag -

Guess I'll be making a Reichstag model before long :P

What buildings and accessories are exactly used for that reichstag?

I guess thats the Reichstag model of the old Berlin map. Download that map, change .sga into .sgb and look at it in Worldbuilder.

Looks cool, I like the interior, however it lacks in detail and the cupola looks strange.
