So I was looking back through some really old threads on this board and came across a little piece of gold lol.
http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?topic=4162.0 (http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?topic=4162.0)
It's a thread about the British changes made in the EF 1.2 patch (the one with the expert vCoH changes). Basically this guy is extremely stubborn and won't change his opinions. He says that the Kang nerf was unjustified etc. while actually just being a massive noob. The thread devolved into a flame war and got locked.
It got me thinking, what are some of the best flame wars you've ever seen/been a part of on the internetz? The funnier the better. It can be from any forum, media outlet etc. Just as long as there's some serious fighting going on.
-
I'm proud to say i lock them before they get heated on Blistered Thumbs. ;D We don't get much of that anyway, because it's a pretty cool and mature community. :P
-
so many angry jelly butt-mangled neckbeards. ;D

I was part of a massive clan [KFC] that used to play Multi Theft Auto back about 6-7 years ago. The MTA team had a very strict Anti-Cheater policy and so did we as a clan, but a few patches of MTA later we decided that we preferred the older patch 2.0 and held a special one off '2.0 Night' on a private server.
The 2.0 night was massive fun, we had people in the clan going ape shit with health hacking, flying cars, miniguns, automatic rocket launchers, teleporting. These were respected people in MTA, the KFC clan was the largest clan in MTA and was full of some of the best players.
However, our rival clan's leader caught wind and reported the entire KFC clan to the MTA admins. A flame war ensued on the MTA forums over allegations we were a subversive clan of hackers and we couldn't participate in Clan Wars any more (despite having a legitimate 50 win streak), they couldn't seem to grasp that the hacks were 2.0 version, not everybody used them and it was a one off night of fun. MTA admins had none of it, saying we violated the rules by altering 2.0's game code then banned everybody with a KFC tag in their name.
We took down our Partyserver (which was the most popular server) and decided to transfer fully over to Vice City Multiplayer (VCMP) which one of our clan members was a Developer of. We took a lot of people with us, possibly hundreds, but the clan was never really the same, VCMP and later SAMP didn't have the same Clan War scene that MTA had.
Maybe that was a blessing... Clan Wars tended to cause far too much hate.

Some people just don't get that games are meant to be fun. ::)
-
Sorry for OT but you're the man with the double donor badge :P
How come?
-
I dunno. I have 2 donor badges that aren't displaying now. ???
Thanks for pointing that out, Maxi.
-
You donated the most so maybe its a special reward badge. If its intended this way than a diamond instead of the gold bar would be appropriate. But i think its a bug
-
I dunno. What does it look like to you?
-
Like this:
-
Hmm, well that's interesting. Thanks, Maxi.
Could somebody please tell me why i have 2 of them?
-
Usual one plus the "super donor" donator badge
-
Pariah, you should also see a little new forum you previously couldn't (private area).
-
It says "Super Donor" :P... unlike the normal Donor badge ;D.
-
Nope, i can't see no new area. :(
-
Now?
-
Yes! Vielen Dank, Rizz! ;D
-
Flame wars engender hate and dissension and as such should be squelched ASAP.
OT: The repeated badge given to Pariah looks wierd to say the least. I THink Modifying the badge to a Gold Bar with Oakleaves or Diamonds as was suggested, And changing the Title to "PATRONA LUDI" might be a more appropriate acknowledgment of the contribution of folks like pariah.
-
I have no idea what "PATRONA LUDI" means, but it's really not necessary. Hell, even the simple "Donor" badge is quite unnecessary! ;)
I totally agree that you should stop these "flame wars" before they even start; They're only going to cause more tension between forum members, and they reflect poorly on the community, and especially the moderators. ;)
-
Flame wars are easily fought because the people who fight them are safe behind their screens, noone sees their faces. Even a little boy can easily claim to be 30 or so and have a lot more life experience. It's so easy to flame via internet, you're anonymous and nobody can come too close. There's always a way out.
The internet provides room to discuss for everyone, even political extrem people and fanatics, we've seen it also around here. That's why the forum police, moderators, are so important.

Patrona Ludi is a polyglot of Latin and German. It means Patron of the Game.
-
Oh, that's cool. What's the reason behind the polyglot? Did you come up with that yourself?

Yes and no. Artists, playwrights and poets in Ancient Rome needed patrons to allow them the freedom to produce their art without having to put bread on the Table. Herman Hesse wrote a novel Magister Ludi - The Game Master(s). I just put the two concepts together.
-
That's most interesting. You're a smart guy, Otto.
-
Not to be mean, but when IJoe was around, he started a couple of funny flame wars. He was a Russian Fanatic.
-
As well as Sturmovik and RedGuard.. :P
-
Yeah, but IJoe was really a nice guy when you're not talking about politics. ;)

+1
-
Sturmovik was the most 'red' of all those guys. Hell, he even proposed to redone entire Russian faction to fit his idea ::)
-
Sturmovik was the most 'red' of all those guys.
There's nothing bad about being 'red'. It's just the way how some of them acted here. Taking things too serious.
I mean there's also the possibility of Axis fanboys acting and flaming like that.
-

They were nationalistic, not 'red'... Pride got in the way most of the time.

I'm sure every community has its share of flame wars. My first online gaming experience was with a game series called Delta Force (I played DF2 and DF Land Warrior). Their was always around 20-30 teams from all over at its peak, with 5-10 of them people considered the best. Ridiculous amounts of flaming and flame wars on forums. After the series died, I had to take a couple years off competitive gaming to recuperate... :P
-
I think IJoe is nice, RedGuard is okay, but Sturmovik is a whole different kind, I think he got some problems about obsession. The most funniest flamewar is between RedGuard and Yauz, they talked exactly like me and my friend years ago, everytime I think about it, it make me laugh. Fight endless battles with each other while also keep insulting or mocking each other. I think after a series of flame wars, Yauz and RedGuard will be friend after they realized how enthusiasm they're :P

I don't think so.
-
Yeah I can't see that happening either lol.
Some interesting stories so far. That clan war thing sounds really shit Burro. I hate people who don't actually listen to what you're telling them. Like they've made up their minds after hearing a biased half of the story.
-
Thats why you don't tell anyone anything ;)
-
I'm sorry to write that post. I thought not clearly at all. Sorry if it offensed anyone.
