Title: Mstow (1v1)
Post by: cephalos on October 08, 2011, 11:48:48 PM
"16.01.1945 - Red Army rampages through Poland during Wisla-Odra operation. In Mstow German 304th Infantry Division clashed with Soviet 54th Armoured Brigade, trying to slow down Red Colossus."

This will be simple 1v1 map. I'll try to create map similiar to Angoville or Langres ( that means competitive 1v1 map) for EF, also making my 2nd winter map.

As you can see I have just begun working. Ground requires texturing, and more objects is about to come. Also I decided not to turn the fog off - it's more climatic.

exactly. All of the trees are crushable/removable. No "heavy" trees here. Don't like forest? Annoyed by Greenpeace? Use your V1 or GoW today, and enjoy totally new landscape.  ;)

To be honest the news has never mentioned their name :-\. Unfortunately I'm not joking :'(. And I watch the news everyday :P. Maybe I just wasn't around to hear their name. God damn channel 7 >:(. Nor have I heard it's name on any sort of e-mail website (mainly Yahoo) These places are where I get a majority of my info from. They might not be reliable but its easy to access :-\

New update

I've just finished another part of map. Fields offer quick route around three buildings in the center of map, however they offer little cover for  advancing troops.

Overall screenshot of fields.

3rd Victory Point set nearby small church...

... and fearsome Flak36 88mm AA/AT gun position guarding the road. The gun is impossible to recrew and it's just a piece of scenery.

and this is how it looks like. As you can see I used barely 7 or 8 objects. And this beauty joins my self-made scenery pieces  ;)

Love the flak and the fields. How is it that you manage to make such interesting fields? They're always so pleasing to the eye and assymetrical.

I always thought that map should be as much realistic as it's possible. 2nd comes the gameplay  :) that's why not all my maps were... hmmm, balanced  :-\

About the fields: it's easy, I used to spend my holidays on my grandparents' farm, so I just recreate what I have seen. And WB ( this bitch, frankly speaking  :P ) has almost all needed tools.

That flak bunker is amazing :o That would be a really impressive emplacement for a mod that is into stuff like that. Oh and the map is beautiful. ;)

I want this to be in a future winter map by you cephalos O0

Cephalos, you're the best mapper i've ever seen. You're map looks now more promising :P. EF needs more balanced 1v1 maps.

88 looks awesome, i mean defense.

Ok, beta is up!

Download Link : http://www.mediafire.com/?456o8gfg78h6glf (http://www.mediafire.com/?456o8gfg78h6glf)
Drop the file into: My Documents/My Games/Company of Heroes/ww2/scenarios and play EF.

Changes I made:
- deleted Flak position. It might look awesome, but AI behaved stupid and was blobbing inf around it, spoiling the gameplay.
- Added few small hills.
- Divided middle +5 fuel point to two +5 fuel points.
- enlarged base sectors

Few tips:
- Flak and Nashorn on this map change it to hell. Two of those and it's almost impossible to pass through.
- mobile units like ACs, Pumas or T-90 also perform well - use them to raid enemy units
- cutting off teritory is quite effective

Enjoy and don't forget to share yor thoughts or ideas about it.
Loading screen and tacmap will be provided in final version.

Who cares about the AI :)

I will play this and make some suggestions concerning balance, provided it's not up to my standard when it comes to resource division. I'm sure Dennis will want to take a stab at it too.

Why don't you block that area? IIRC there should be some kind of "block" element that can be wrapped around the emplacement.

Title: Re: BETA Mstow (1v1)
Post by: cephalos on October 14, 2011, 09:23:51 PM
well I did, the problem lies in the 88. There's no 'cinematic' 88 to place, so I use 88 from the objects->gameplay. And this one, though it's in impass area, it's still capturable. And AI knows it...

great blacky, thanks :D however I think I won't put it back. It would look cool on larger map  :-\ while on 1v1 it's just another object that reduces mobility on already small map. Maybe other time.

Nice little map you did ceph :)

Play it currently alot.

I have a suggestion:

In the area where the trees are scattered maybe you can change the ground texture a bit.
I was thinking that the snow layer is thinner there and at some points grass shines through.
Another cool effect would be if a object is half covered by snow.
Title: Re: BETA Mstow (1v1)
Post by: cephalos on October 16, 2011, 11:19:27 AM
@ Killar
this textures idea sounds great. I'll check it  :)
but I'm not sure if Objective covered by snow will be capturable. Also AI might behave strange.
Title: Re: BETA Mstow (1v1)
Post by: Killar on October 16, 2011, 11:40:35 AM
No i mean objects like pile of wood or a tractor. Maybe if you put it in a ground elevation with snow texture?

Also the snow can be altered by a snow storm. The wind will blow the snow in a direction and when it hits a barrier (house, walls, ...) it will batch the snow in front of it.

Title: Re: BETA Mstow (1v1)

I'm not currently working on it, and I had to erase my PC so all data is lost. I hope that someone has this map on his PC so he can upload or send it to me.

Map was basically ready, sector layout was also ready. Only loading screen and tacmap needs to be done, but I suck at photoshop/others so I have no clue how to do it.

sure:

- added few hedgerows here and there to increase survivability - 88s and Nashorns are on this map very dangerous, so I thought that some hedges will do :)
- added 2 extra houses to promote fallschrim/partisan warfare.
- few small fixes, literally unoticable
- added 3 craters next to the church for extra cover

May I ask what was the photo which Ceph lost?

Sure. I was planning to make epic Nashorns vs. T-34s loading screen. Dzierzan had helped me twice, but my PC is just strange and it either don't save pictures or delete them during defragmentation. The loading screen that Maxi did is insanely epic I must say :)
