Off Topic / My ridiculous ideas/hypotheses for CoH 2
« on: May 10, 2012, 04:58:48 AM »
I was talking about CoH 2 with a friend. I don't know any details about the game, other than it being set in the Eastern Front. So, in the first CoH, we had the US Army and the Wehrmacht. The First expansion gave us the British Army and the Panzer Elite. The second expansion just gave us reward units for each of the factions.

I'm sure Relic wants to 1-up from CoH and make CoH 2 much better. I had a ridiculous, funny, and extremely unrealistic idea go through my head thinking about how CoH 2 was gonna go:

First I thought: Expansions. Definitely. Dawn of War had them, Dawn of War 2 had them, Company of Heroes had them. Vanilla CoH 2 will have the Red Army and the Ostheer for sure, and I'm pretty sure the expansions for CoH 2 will add more factions, and this is where my idea gets ridiculous. There will be at least two expansions; one of them will be in the Pacific Theater and add the Imperial Japanese Army and the United States Marine Corps, and the other one will be in Africa and add the Afrika Corps and the 7th Armored "Desert Rats"

Look at my proposed list:

Red Army, Ostheer
IJA, USMC
Afrika Corps, Desert Rats

I know it looks ridiculous and playing on a snowy map with the British troops wearing shorts and short-sleeves and Japanese ambush troops with jungle foliage on their back, but I look at that list and say, "screw realism; It would be damn funny and awesome to have these factions in the game together!" Obviously, it would be very hard to balance, though.

Another thing is melee combat. I do hope CoH 2 has this. It's just weird when Infantry are at point-blank range and they just fire their rifles and reload beside each other. Bayonets, combat knives, machetes, would be cool switch-to weapons for melee combat, and if the above factions are in, we could have Japanese fanatics with cheap katanas and scottish highland troops with claymores(the sword, not the mines).

As you may have noticed, I don't really care for historical accuracy when it comes to the multiplayer of WW2 games, and you shouldn't, because it's multiplayer and ridiculous amazing shit happens there.(pardon my language)

the DUMP file isn't there. :(

Additional Information

*What map were you playing? Zhytomyr

*Which factions were involved? Me as Arty Brits(vanilla; not royal marine commandos), friend as USA Airborne, Expert AI as Propaganda Red Army, 2 Normal AI and 1 Easy AI as Wehrmacht(I'm not sure of their companies)

*What were you doing when the crash occurred? We finished a Skirmish game on Zhytomyr. Everything went as normal: AI with a seemingly unfair advantage dominating us early game, followed by a miraculous counter-attack by 4 Kangaroos and a horde of Naval Infantry, supported by Priests. It was a stunning victory. No problems. I went to the post-game stats, reveled in my glory, and clicked the option to leave the post-game stats and go back to the Skirmish menu. As soon as I did that, the game crashed to the desktop.

*Do the crashes happen during every or almost every game? I have only opened the mod twice since patching to the latest version, and the same crash happened in both instances, with the same thing: Finish a game with no problems, but clicking the button to leave the post-game stats crashes the game.

For the latest patch, 1.610, the game works fine for me until I finish a game. When I exit the post-game stats, the game crashes to desktop. This has happened twice. Same conditions. Skirmish, and after exiting post-game stats. The first time was alone with bots on Berlin, and the second time it was with a friend playing against bots on Zhytomyr. Not sure if that helps, but I'll throw it in just in case. Those were also the only two times I've run the mod since I patched it.

Cherbourg
Rhine River
Ardennes Forest
Dieppe
Paris

A few minor spelling corrections from Otto Halfhand's post, for your benefit:
15. Arnhem
39. Kharkov
41. Prokhorovka
44. Volga River Crossing(The river that flows through/beside Stalingrad is the Volga river)
46. Seelow Heights

I think there are others, but I don't really know what the appropriate spellings of the others are.

I saved a replay of me and my buddies playing on the old Berlin map(Before 1.6). We had a fun staged battle at the Reichstag area. I learned the old Berlin map had been totally remade(I like the new one better tbh), so I recorded footage from this replay to remember the epic map. Honestly, the 'feel' of the old Berlin map was better. The ash/dust falling from the sky, the dark atmosphere, and the flashes of lightning made it look like a volcano had erupted near Berlin, but it felt epic nonetheless. Obviously you don't want to watch the 2 and a half hour time it took for the Reichstag to fall(very long setup periods), so I just made a video.

It's obviously very historically inaccurate. I read about the Battle before editing the video, and said, "Well, close enough."

The Battle for the Reichstag

If you can read our chat, well, you may find some of it funny.

EDIT: Apparently, this was moved to the Replays forum. I considered posting it here first, but it isn't a 'replay' file per se. Thanks for the correction.

Suggestions / Re: Campaign Structure
« on: February 22, 2010, 11:46:39 AM »
The Berlin campaign should be the last, as it is the last major battle of The European theatre.

Instead of holding your ground, In the middle of the battle, your commanding officer (liuetenant or captain maybe) decides that this war is over and leads his men out of Berlin to try and surrender to the Western allies. In the escape of Berlin, You will have to avoid both Germans and Russians because german deserters in the battle of berlin were killed.

Then you will have to make your way to the Allied lines avoiding Russian patrols.

Also, a battle of prohkorovka mission will be nice, where you command a Tiger Ace and help your allied tanks fight the endless stream of russian tanks.

LENINGRAD TACTIC vs AI

If the russians bum rush the center island and you just can't breech their defences, use mortar halftracks. I used them to deadly effect, pounding the island with mortars and incendiaries. I use munitions halftracks with my mortar halftracks to keep the bombard options open whenever i need them.

Later, I got 2 HUMMEL SPAs. I put them on lockdown on the edge of my base and their range covered the entire map.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Wehrmackt Win vs Russians!
« on: January 28, 2010, 03:03:20 PM »
I won 4 V 4 in berlin against russian CPUs with plenty of T34s and Su-85s with 2 Vet2 panthers and a KT.

The bot's were very stupid, though. They rushed all their infantry into our MG bunkers, their tanks were isolated from each other and brought their katyushas too close so we could easily kill them.

Yeah, you should NEVER send in lone T-34s unless it's early game. T34/76 has decent armor and damage, but has bad accuracy. T34s get raped when they're solo, but in packs, the dominate.

Rush an assortment of panzer grenadiers equipped with a variety of weapons and all upgrades.

G43s for long/medium range
StG44 for close range
Shreck for AT

Just watch out for Katyushas, Snipers, and Morats
