Those who still kept the original Company of Heroes game (before transition to steam) can still play offline games with the Easternfront mod
Is this so? I have CoH Steam installed with EF and it doesn't work, of course. I have CoH Disc installed on another drive. It does work and works even so with LAN. Can EF be installed to this and it would work? And with LAN? If so, what version of patch should CoH be and what version of patch for EF?

Relic broke something with their patch - devs on both sides are trying to figure it out.

Ok, using the "make a new shortcut" method, I was able to launch EF (yay). I miss playing it.
However, I am concerned that I still cannot use the EF launcher to bring up the patcher for patch downloads.
Also, could not choose either Soviets or Ostheer, though the options were listed.

Oh... I have another thread about the exe not working.
I downloaded the 2.1.0.1 but am I to understand from this thread I need to start with the 1.0.0.0 installation and go up from there? I thought 2.1.0.1 was all I need - a full version.

Same thing. Clean Steam install of the NSVersion, no other version. Avast off, flawless installation of EF 2.1.0.1.
Click the Finish with Launch EF box checked, nothing. Not even an hourglass. None of the EF.EXEs work or cause anything to happen.
My CoH is installed in D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Company of Heroes Relaunch and so is EF.
The EF exes won't allow me to run as administrator. The exes show running as WILLIAM-MB (the name of my computer for Windows) with restricted access. Changing this does nothing as any changes I make are reset to that option automatically. Don't know if that matters.
The task manager doesn't even show activity when I click the exes.

Ok... the original launcher might have been fouled. Ran out of space on my SSD and had to move everything to a TB drive.
uninstalled everything, including all CoH from Steam. Reinstalling, very carefully.
Will let you know how it goes.

Steam did indeed DL TOV so I removed the folder and had Steam remove the content. Still no success.
Should I have Steam remove/delete CoH and run a fresh install? Would that even matter?

Had the discs, registered Tales of Valor with Steam and downloaded the NEW STEAM VERSION. Steam might also have downloaded ToV.
Followed the setup guide. Logged in and played a little in the tutorial before Attempting the latest EF 2.1.0.1. Copy pasted the path so that it was exact to the relaunch folder.
EF ran the setup, asked if I was finished and the box was checked to Launch. Nothing happened. I mean nothing. Not a flash, nothing. No errors, no beeps. Tried the EFlauncher.exe from within the Relaunch folder. Same thing.
What happened? What do I need to do?

Some common eastern front units that saw a lot of action were Fallschirmjager ground troops. They had a reputation for being tough defensive units.
Not sure as to the ground weapon load-out, but Ostheer might have some Fallschirmjager as a troop selection somewhere in the tree.
If we're looking for types of troops unique from CoH's Wehr and PE, then the aforementioned stormtroopers need to be considered. Assault rifles and grenades.
Also a simple heer infanterie unit. Kar98 rifles, grenades, and maybe some AT grenades.
Gebirgsjager were mentioned and should receive consideration.
Also a suggestion I made somewhere else: Grossdeutschland troops. They were extremely well-equipped and received priority supplies much like the Waffen units.
Possible unit could be "Waffen Grenadiers," another name for an SS unit for the purposes of equipment. A squad of these wearing the camo uniforms could "stealth". I believe there is a doctrinal CoH unit that does this.
Tanks: seen some great suggestions and the poll tells its own story. But a cheap PzIII (J?) would be wonderful to see. The PzIV and Tiger should be standard purchases. Eastern front saw a lot of SP-gun usage, so StuGs should also be available.
Maybe the doctrine tree could include the guns we think are too limited, such as the Brummbar or Sturmtiger.

My son and I twice loaded up EF and selected Relic's map: "The Scheldt." We both chose Wehrmacht and selected two easy Russian AI opponents.
About 20 minutes in on our first try, both our systems froze with looping sound within about 30 seconds of each other.
On our second attempt, I chose Wehr and he chose PE. Again, about 20 minutes in (roughly), I froze with looping sound effects but he did not. He was able to finish the skirmish without hitch.
Just a heads up on an apparent bug.
As to our systems, both are fully up to date driver-wise as we constantly play online games - 7 days per week.
On a different map, Achelous River, I chose Wehr, he chose PE and we selected 2 Russian Normal AIs. No freezes or glitches.
Might be the easy setting, could be the Scheldt map... dunno.

well u cant balance based on lower lvl players, it just doesnt go. basicly ur saying that ur lazy and dont want to get better so the game should be made to ur lvl? what happens when u get better? it gets unbalanced and then u ask for balance again
Of course you can balance based on each particular difficulty. Values are set for each difficulty, the scale isn't locked. As for the rest of your post, I don't respond to trolls.

Is it illegal in certain countries to have an "SS" faction? Like the illegality of the swastika? If so, then I understand why. If not, why not an SS faction? Many differences in supply and priorities were given them - much like the Grossdeutschland (yet another possible faction).

I haven't played a ton of scenarios yet, but I will conditionally give my nod to the OP. I'm an older guy who can't twitch as fast as you younger spasms... Which means I constantly play on easy. Normal difficulty is a severe challenge for me that I often lose. That said, on easy level in 1.04, I get swarmed by troops faster than I can counter and then get wiped by mortar spam. I lose the skirmish in less than 10 minutes, usually. A word about mortars. They seem highly inaccurate for the first 3 minutes. Then suddenly they hit and kill everything in 1 or 2 shots. Same for the Zis AT gun. It can 2-shot an 88. This is on EASY. Even tried it with a computer ally against a single easy soviet. Got my you know what toasted and so did the computer ally. Love the mod, though.
