Hey guys,
I personally like to welcome you to the EF online gaming thread. This thread has the intention to open up the possibility of playin EF with other players online.
From now on, everytime I'll host a game in EF, I'll leave an anouncement in this thread so everyone who's got the time and the desire to be part of an ultimate carnage between Wehrmacht and Red Army... join and play!
Of course everybody else who wants to host a game, is invited to post time and date in here too.
gl & hf,
Hans

Thx for the nice replies.
@Venoxxis - Every unit I depicted above could become a tankhunter (just hand Landsers or, like suggested, Waffen SS infantry a shreck). Same with the rifle-grenade. Those are just weapons, I was tryin to summarize the basic infantry units and describing their possible role.
Which unit gets what weaponry, is goin to be up to the Devs.

Hey guys, while I was reading through the unit suggestion thread I realized that certain units were named very often. Since I want the Ostheer to become a masterpiece regarding history and gameplay like the SU, I summerized those units, added a few screens and gave some info to the historical role and a resulting suggestion of their use in game. This is meant to be a help for the Devs. If it’s not, nevermind, I had fun doin this. I will not talk about the details like cost or special abilites because I think this is decided within the overall concept of the Ostheer and should be left to the hands of the Devs alone. Enjoy. WEHRMACHT LANDSER / PANZERGRENADIERE ROLE: The Wehrmacht Landser was the backbone of the german Heer. It could be the basic infantry unit, maybe similar to the volks. HEERES-STURMPIONIERE ROLE: Besides their normal Pioneer-duties (building bridges etc.) Heeres Sturmpioniere had the basic objective to storm and destroy enemy fortifications. Several Battalions fought in the eastern campaign, especially in Stalingrad. It would make sense to make them a versatile attack unit. To pay tribute to their training to destroy emplacements they should get explosives for bunkers etc. Also flamethrowers seem to fit into the concept to be able to fight occupied buildings. A run-ability would increase their attacking potential vs bunkers. The Sturmpioniere would become specialists of urban warfare and a nice counter to the russian infantry hordes. GEBIRGSJÄGER ROLE: Gebirgsjager were a highly trained special forces unit to fight in difficult terrain especially high mountains. There were a few units of them fighting in Russia. Due to their historical background it would make sense to give them rifles (maybe G43) and make them a long distance anti-infantry unit. Since they were better trained than standard infantry and their percentage in the Wehrmacht pretty low, they should rather be very expensive and very good. Scouting and fighting weapon teams could be their basic objectives. Russian super-mortars are going to hate them. xD WAFFEN-SS Infantry ROLE: Waffen SS Divisions in the east were often used ass “front jumpers” to fill in the gaps in the front or quickly support a counter-attack. Due to their high figting morale (and the fact that Stalin ordered to kill every captured SS member) the Waffen SS was the most eager unit to fullfil Hitlers “no step back” policy. Digged in, using trenches and building traps Waffen SS units were very effective in killing russian armor. Thus it would make sense to let those guys get some shrecks and boni while fighting in cover, maybe even be able to build trenches. They could be the tank hunters of the Ostheer. -------------------------------------- cheers, Hans

Sry for bringing up such an old thread, but I didnt want to open up a new for basically the same topic.
Discuss the map Berlin.
Though I find it really awesome regarding layout (therefore gameplay) and graphics (Brandenburger Tor --> wow!!!), am I the only one who really got trouble to see something? I mean, I cant differ tanks from wrecks or building parts... the flying ashes add to the problem... very confusing to play this map.
I underestand the historical setting but playability goes down the ... wouldn't it make sense to add a daylight or night or whatever weather condition which makes it possible to see something? Is this only my problem?

Because you think half-rifle conscript, and this annoying red banner bearer of strelkys are historically accurate? Answer: Cool units + balance + (history/2) = good gameplay... And Cons & Strelkys are pretty realistic regarding their fighting power. Not like my imaginative albanian elite-mountaineers... with mule-ability to cross ridges... (still worth a thought though.. xD) You get a couple of units from a random country (all-hungarian, all-romanian etc.). The different countries have different specializations, like finns give you a few good units, Hungary gives you armored vehicles, and Romania gives you infantry (I don't really know, nor do I care, which country that should give what units). Again, what country you get will be completely random. I actually like this idea very much. Though I wouldn't make it to random, there s enough randomness in the game... Make it a clear Battlegroup of one country... maybe 1 squad + 1 small tank... maybe a middle game call-in... it would be weak but cheap... and like in reality would be used to quickly fill in any gaps in your frontline... best idea I've heard so far.

I like this guy. At least he s able to take a step back, when realizing that he crossed the line. xD
But honestly, 1.11 has its issues with balance but its pretty good for where it is right now. Like I said, better than brits or pe. A lot of very good players agree on that. So, when you post an oppinion which states that SU is OP, than it seems that you either haven't been playin it enough, or you re just not skilled enough to judge.
No offense.

Many of us were discusted!
Stopped reading right there...
'Douche' sprang to mind... xD n1 @vonhaggon - I'm pretty sure you forgot to hit the update button after install... you probably still play 1.10. What makes you pretty much unqualified for such a statement. If not.... then you probably are a very unskilled player who just turns on easy coms, and you're question should be "Hey guys, nice mod, how can I become a better player to beat the easy AI?" cheers

The music should generate a specific mood which fits to the game. For me, the music i proposed does that. It creates a grim, powerful and dynamic atmosphere - perfect to get my Pio's ass up. But well, taste is different.
For me, marching music puts me into a state of humorous nostalgia... not something I wanna start a game of CoH....

I agree that Ostheer should be different to PE and Wehr. But this is not about the looks or the background of a unit, this is archieved with differences in gameplay. PE and Wehr are also both german - but completely different.
Including units with no special purpose, just to have foreign units in the game, would probably have a negative impact on gameplay. Who wants useless or non-historic units in his army? Especially when the soviet part perfectly unites gameplay and history? Not me.
If there is a way to find a sensful use of foreign units - perfect. If not, and so far the ideas I've heard are pretty poor, then I hope the Dev's will resist the shiny temptation and focus on the basics, like they mastefully did with SU: Gameplay and History.

Yes, of course also Compstomps. Especially since the game needs some minor balance still (referring to the light tankovy build IS2 flaw), it be probably more fun stomping the comp right now.
I ll open up a game in about 1 hour.
COMPSTOMP - 1:00 pm Forum time
Hope to see some of you.
Could one of the Mods say something to the idea of a sticky thread to meet for matches?

The actual "Stalingrad" map disapointed me, because there is almost no buildings (or entirely destroyed), Fully agree! Though it would have perfectly fit the scenery of Stalingrad to have to smoke out the other side from their houses and buildings they occupy... a pitty.
