General Discussion / Re: Single player campaigns suggestions
« on: April 21, 2011, 01:33:33 AM »
The only interesting campaign in the entire CoH is the first one. The rest of 'em are absolutely annoying and kind o' "soap opera"-like. Too much irrelevant crap, too little action, too many scripted stuff - BORING!

Yeah, because the American campaign wasn´t a soap opera.

"WHAT, NEVER SEEN DEAD BODIES"

FLYING ANGEL JESUS CAPTAIN

EVIL OFFICER THAT WAS SO EVIL, HIS EVIL TIGER WAS PAINTED "EVIL BLACK"

You probably liked the American campaign more simply because it was longer. Admitedly, the British and PE campaigns had some pretty damn cheesy lines too ("told the general to reinforce the hill!" and "what are we fighting for now my family´s home has been bombed?" stand out in my mind right now), but they also had pretty cool lines and scenes (like the one with the artwork of the dead radio officer in hill 112, and the "you got a brain, USE IT!" which was deliciously anti-macho and very smart... and came from a GERMAN officer).

Agreed with Cephalos. Having a narrower focus allows for more focus. Like the British taking Caen and the Panzer Elite in Operation Market Garden.

Personally, I would go for Operation Barbarossa up to the start of the Battle of Stalingrad for the Wehrmacht (ending in a somber, foreboding narration), and either the Battle of Berlin or the Seelow Heights for the Soviets.

Eastern Front / Re: Worst-Of WW2 Weapons:Common Bolt-Action Rifles.

Fighting to the very last man honestly takes balls of steel.  Everyone talks about the bonzai charges behind their armchairs nowadays, but most people would piss in their pants if ordered to make a charge like that.

Actually, Banzai charges were a sign of cowardice. A bizarre sign, but still a sign. Banzai charges were a way of ending your life with honour, and was a kind of "ideologically approved suicide". However, it was something cowardly to do when, for example, the commander of the Iwo Jima garrison ordered his troops to fight to the death, but always trying to kill as many Americans as possible from protected positions, rather than carry out futile charges that were quickly stopped in their tracks by machineguns and semi-automatic rifles, with heavy losses for little to no gain.

Its just too bad these guys committed a lot of war crimes and therefore fought for an unjust cause.

Actually, the cause comes before the war. It doesn´t matter how heroic a soldier is when it comes to justifying the war he is fighting in.

General Discussion / Re: Where's the Red Tide Song?
« on: April 13, 2011, 03:10:50 PM »
I would be extremely disappointed if it had been taken out. I know not everybody likes the songs currently in, but they just FIT LIKE A GLOVE. They also evoke the movies they are from, making it even more awesome.

Also, I am not sure you can actually make battle music. At least, not the way CoH does it. In vCoH, the faction´s music fluctuates according to the situation, speeding up and becoming louder during combat, while being tense and threatening the rest of the time. I believe that is owed to a specific engine that I´m not sure modders know how to handle.

Panzer IVs with skirts are a fairly straightforward solution. Just make sure you have pios nearby to repair the PIVs between engagements.

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: German voices?
« on: March 18, 2011, 05:04:57 PM »
You are not supposed to provide an accurate translation. What the devs would be looking for, if you have a look at what CoH itself is like, is a goofy but professional dubbing.

In CoH, you have German soldiers saying things like "Ja, commander!" They mix properly spoken English with a few selected German words to make it sound a bit foreign, in a rather cartoonish way. So if you want to give English voices to the Soviets, what you need is an American/British English-speaker that can provide comments and voices, and a Russian English-speaker that can provide funny, silly-stereotypical idioms and words to mix in with the dialogue, as well as cultural references (although anyone who has read Antony Beevor can provide a few of those, no problem).

And why is the Soviet tank hunters are using the British AT rifle??? The Soviet AT rifle is way better than the British one. The PTRS-41 can penetrate 25mm steel at the range of 500m. While the British BOY AT rifle can only penetrate 21mm (0.827 in) at 302m (330yards).

Because gameplay has priority over realism.

Eastern Front Replays / Re: [1.302] EF Replay Pack
« on: March 05, 2011, 02:01:17 PM »
Excellent. Haven´t played Eastern Front in about a year or more. This pack should come in handy.

+Edit: On second thought, do none of these replays have Soviets in them? I don´t see the Soviet symbol in any of the sides lists when selecting the replays, although I seem to remember that that hasn´t been worked into the mod yet. Do the Soviets show up with the British/American symbol instead?

General Discussion / Re: Why would I use the Ostheer?
« on: February 28, 2011, 01:04:37 AM »
I would have to agree, using old outdated stuff in war always seems to excite me, especially if that stuff has to be kept together with Duct Tape and the like. Its like the Rebals in Star Wars.

Outdated stuff? The Rebel Alliance?

Their fighters have SHIELDS AND HYPERDRIVES, TIE fighters and their variants don´t! How´s that outdated?

The only way of making any British AT except 17lbs work, is using Bren squads/carriers and buttoning the enemy tanks.

Red Army Suggestions / Re: General Ideas

Jesus Christ.

We just need the British, the Americans and the Germans also whining about the obvious, "artist´s license" inaccuracies, and nobody will ever want to make a damn mod of any game ever again.

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: The SS
« on: July 24, 2010, 06:30:48 PM »
I don't see why

I think people just want SS in because it is the SS

Like people want a super heavy tank just because its a
super heavy tank

Unlike with the stupid super heavy prototypes, it turns out the Waffen SS did participate in many important battles in World War II, and even feature in vCoH. So it is perfectly acceptable to include them in the mod.

All the modders would be doing is create them in a slightly more visually explicit way.

Quote
Or hey it might just be me thinking of the british commandos throwing their uniform at the ground as the first name of them had the shortening of SS

And they wanted to have the totenkopf (the skull) on their insignia, but they were not allowed to for PR reasons.

There is something wrong with the youth today, why are they seeking the bad and terrible to be shown all the while it just feels like its to be in solely for the reason ''well because''

We are playing a game that deals with one of the MOST DEVASTATING WARS IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND.

If I were a moralist prude like you, I would start with that.

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: ostheer medium tanks
« on: July 17, 2010, 12:07:35 AM »
How about having a couple of light tanks that could be upgraded with light AT weapons, and then getting heavy tanks for a slightly cheaper cost than normal Wehr, but after some expensive upgrades?

That way, Ostheer would have to rely on light AT and halftrack-mounted infantry at first, then go for heavy tanks like Panthers and Tigers later on. Think a mix of PE and Wehr, using open-topped HTs and Pumas.

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Russian traitors

I think it would be easier to make suppressed Soviet infantry (red) die immediately, and convert their cost to mp for the Ostheer player to use.
