Eastern Front / A war movie without the gey stuff
« on: July 18, 2011, 11:19:29 AM »
War movies like Pearl Harbor or Enemy at the Gates would be great but the romance part and the pathetic Hollywood feel...
...and then It was born.  :o 8)  :-[
Some guy on youtube cut Eastern Front 1941 movie leaving only the good parts... 8 tasty 10 minute long battlescenes. Heres the first part

Balance Discussion / Quick Guards idea [1.3.1]
« on: April 23, 2011, 09:51:25 AM »
I just watched a quick 15min replay:
http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?topic=5696.0
Theres some constript spamming, early map control and then a very quick T-90 without building T-2.
I would like to see a possibility to build quick Guards alongside quick armor to but they also need any T-2 upgrade. I dont think that 35 fuel earlier Guards will break the game ballance but it will give a Soviet player a chance to suprise his oponent with a 3rd rare choice of teching (similar to US quick T4 or WH T-1, T-3). It will only work with large map control.
Right now skipping Strelky, all T-2 units and the Medic Truck isnt worth its 320MP/35fuel price. Its too risky to use only contripts.

Hey just noticed ist my 1000 post! Im Mr. Spam. 8) ;D

Balance Discussion / [1.3.0.2]The all powerfull Mosin
« on: March 09, 2011, 08:54:14 PM »
I allways belived that Soviet Strelky rifle stats are copied Garand stats with minor changes.

Suprise :o
The dmg of the Mosin is 12 and the long range accuracy is 0,5 compared to 0,35 of the M1 and 0,45 of the Gren k98.
I wont just say "nerf the Mosin", I wanted an opinion first.
Did you got raped as Germans by long range Mosin fire just becouse you didnt build a Med bunker?
Can youre MP40 Volks get close to a Strelky squad without being raped (just like they would with a US squad)?

IMO Mosin should get a dmg Nerf (10dmg), the Strelky global upgrade should be cheaper, DP-28 should cost 50 ammo while PPSH 100ammo (or even 125ammo so that 7 men PPSH wont be spammable). NKVD rifles should be more powerfull to (8 or 9dmg) since they are a joke compared to a squad that can retreat, has more HP and costs only 40MP more.

I also wanted to start a discussion about PTRD squads. 8 pop cap is really a bad nerf. Why not just give PTRD teams shitty constript rifles and maybe raise their reinforce cost?

Bugs & Tech Support / Sherman 105 smoke
« on: March 06, 2011, 07:55:11 PM »
I dont think this should be called a bug but anyway Sherman 105 can fire a smoke round for 25muni instead of 50 for the standard Sherman.
It also dosnt need smoke upgrade touse it and has a different button - mortar smoke instead of tank smoke.

Bugs & Tech Support / "Fixed" recrew bug. [1.30 beta]
« on: December 28, 2010, 02:45:29 PM »
Heres a funny bug. Its funny so I made a video instead of posting a replay. :P
Dont know if that has to do with the fact that I could recrew the gun later. (1.30 will fix the no recrew bug and this is a beta version).
I issued an order to pull the gun to my base and soon after the crew died.
EF "fixed" no recrew bug.

Balance Discussion / Comparing T-34/85 with IS-2 [1.23]
« on: November 27, 2010, 03:47:23 PM »
I personally think that T-34/85 is right now the best tank ingame, while IS-2 is underpowered. T-34 /85 has Churchills armor and similar HP and a great gun that can be used for anything. Its better in every way than a upgunned Sherman without an MG and its cheaper. It can take 2 StugIV on and win.
On the other hand theres the slow IS-2. Its gun does more dmg but reloades slower. It has 10% lower accuracy than T-34, much lower accuracy vs infantry and its accuracy drops even more when its on the move.
It has better armor and HP but circlestrafing and rear shooting it is easy. T-34/85 (Churchills) armor is also the strongest armor to rear shots, stronger than IS-2 (Pershings) armor. IS-2 also has much lower aera of effect. Killing 2 grens with 1 shell T-34/85 is as common as killing only 1 gren with 2 IS-2 shells.

The only thing IS-2 is better at is killing Tigers (*1,4dmg), Jagdpanthers (*1,25dmg) Panthers and PzIVs (1,15dmg) (0,5 deflection mulitlayer compared to 0,15 of T-34 and most other guns) but 2 T-34/85 will do it better anyway.

A few months ago I posted a topic comparing Stugs and T-34/85. Its related to this one so:

Balance Discussion / PE sprint.
« on: September 24, 2010, 07:05:13 AM »
Most of you know it. PE infantry can sprint. The problem is you need all the upgrades that are not needed to get a Panther Battlegroup.
I allways wondered why do PGs need AT nades and advanced repair to run faster?

How about changing this ability so that PGs will have it after getting Group Zeal, Veteran Sgt and maybe Fieldcraft?

Balance Discussion / Useless StugIV and T-34/85 with thick rear armor.
« on: September 14, 2010, 02:07:24 PM »
While Stugs can counter any armor that Western Allies have (2 Stugs will kill a lonelly Firefly or a Churchill) their only usefull vs T-34/76, T-70 and T-90. I dont mind SU being efective vs Stugs becouse SU armor (Hetzer) if very weak to rear hits and it thas low HP.

T-34/85 right now has Churchills armor - the most resistent armor type to rear shots. StugIV will loose to a T-34/85 even if faced backwards to it.
This is a BIG problem becouse Ostheer StugIII and PzIII wont stand a chance vs T-34/85. Im not saing that StugIII, StugIV and PzIII should be equal to T-34. Im saing that if a PzIII (pumas 50mm gun) is fireing at T-34 rear and Stug is fireing at T-34 front T-34/85 should loose.

Solution - T-34/85 should have Shermans armor with some anti-penetration bonuses (x0.8 or something).
I also wouldnt mind changing T-34/76 armor to Cromwell as both tanks looked similar. T-34/76 would then have same anti-penetration bonuses as a 85mm version.

Balance Discussion / Slight buffs for the late game Brits.
« on: August 12, 2010, 11:24:59 PM »
First of all I dont care about LTs arti and stacking bonuses. For ballance they can be nerfed. This is not a topic on that.

I would like to see some minor changes in the British late game.

1. Buff the healing power of a Captain. Vet 2 Captain shoul heal at least as fast as vet 1 Wehrmacht infantry but only in 1 friendly territory.

2. Change the Commando tree so that Commando HQ is at 4CPs while Tetrarch stays at 5CP.

3. Tetrarch glider should be able to produce Commando jeeps with same build cost as US jeep and same smoke ability as Tetrarchs/upgraded Shermans.

4. Change Churchill Croc armor and gun.
Late war Crocs were Churchills Mk VII with OQF 75mm gun and better armor than a Tiger I. A Cromwells gun and Pershings/vet 0 Tigers armor wont change much in the gameplay becouse a single Panther will still kill it with ease. An overrepaired Crock will still have less HP, worst armor, gun and speed than a Vet 3 Tiger but this change will make you want to save CPs (it can cost more CPs than it does now) for this blob killer.

Balance Discussion / Is the PE muni halftrack OP? [1.20]
« on: July 30, 2010, 11:54:26 PM »
1.20 patch made some changes to original COH units. One of them was to make PE muni halftrack reinforce troops and cost no fuel.

This means that PE needs only 55Fuel to get 4 man MP44 squads with reinforce (and placing mines) possibility.
This means that PE will be way to OP in early-mid game becouse they wont need to retreat.
Mini halftrack has better armor than infantry halftrack so only Stuarts and upgunned BRENs can defeat them. The problem with Stuarts is that they can apear on the battlefield after 80Fuel. BREN carriers need 90 muni for AP to get a 1st AP round and get overwhelmed by MP44 anyway.

My point is that reinforcing Muni halftracks should cost 10-20Fuel.

Red Army Suggestions / Retreat modifiers [before 1.20]
« on: June 24, 2010, 09:58:24 PM »
I think all players know that retreat makes most infantry twice as hard to hit. British infantry (not commandos, not sure about Sappers and the Captain) take only 1 out of 4 shots that normally would hit them while Snipers take 3 out of 4 shots. All infantry run with 5 speed then. (4 is when Fired-up 3 is normal speed 2 is British infantry speed).

1.20 will give the Soviets the ability to retreat. This is final.
My question is:
Should Soviets get lower retreat bonuses?

Red Army Suggestions / Allmighty Command Squad. 1.04
« on: May 21, 2010, 11:57:38 AM »
My idea is to make the Command Squad and barracks cost fuel.

When youre starting a game with constripts and engineers the Command Squad is very needed to fight bikes, rush MGs etc.

But what if youre command squad costed fuel (10 or more)?
There would be a possibility to quick cap and tech-up quicker and have quicker strelky+mortars or get the allmighty Command Squad at the beginning.

My second idea is to make a command squad cost more MP and fuel (400MP/40fuel or more) but he would be the retreat point for all units (like UKs captain this retreat would have a recharge time). Infantry would be able to retreat only to command squad positions. There would be no retreat to base.
The command squad could loose its charge ability then so that it wouldnt form a blob quickly and charge anything on its way.
