Anybody else get into the War Thunder Global Beta? I just managed to swipe a key from Gamersbook

And redeem at the War Thunder website

Basically, the game matches the same formula as World of Tanks/World of Warplanes/World of Warships but is by a different developer and is hopefully (in the end) going to be infinitely more detailed. Here's some info swiped from Facepunch -

Quote
*War Thunder is being developed and published by Gaijin Entertainment.
*The game is currently in closed beta, so a key is required to play.
*Only the air aspect of the game is available at the moment, but ships will be added "soon" and tanks are rumored to be added after release, AI controlled infantry will also be added.
*The game is optimized as fuck, so you'll be able to run it unless you use a toaster.
*Cannons are overpowered.
*Its going to feature Tanks only, Planes only and ships only gamemodes, aswell as everything in one gamemode.
*Will support 120+ players in one match.

So yeah... it's gonna be good ;D

Anybody else played this yet? I've heard people harping on about it for at least... a month. It's a Zombie survival mod for ArmaII, but it's set in a totally online, consistent world where people scavenge, steal and murder just to survive the zombie apocalypse. I've watched a few people play it and I have to say, although I got over Zombie games after the first Resident Evil, this is a proper hardcore survival game, even more so than Fallout or Stalker. I bought Arma II at full price just to play it. :-X

When I say hardcore, I mean haaaardcore. You don't even start off with a weapon! You have to run around a zombie infested town, dodging the undead and other players alike just to find a pistol or a knife, you're not even guaranteed to have bullets if you're lucky enough to come across a gun. On top of this, if you get shot or bitten or run into some barbed wire, you start to bleed everywhere and need to heal yourself with a bandage... no bandages? Well, you'll be dead in a few minutes then. You also need to make sure you're well fed and watered and supplies are extremely short... in the 4 villages I searched, I found 1 can of coke, a hatchet which was useless and a double barreled shotgun with no shells. I also found a crossbow, but I felt shotgun shells were probably more common than crossbow bolts.

In my noobishness I started running around the town looking for something to protect myself with, attracting ALOT of zombie attention. The Zombies are basically blind, they rely on their hearing to sense where you may be... so if you're running about, Zombies lock on to you very quickly, but if you walk calmly or crouch/prone, you can move virtually undetected.

So, does anybody actually play this? Because I had my first taste today and I really enjoyed it, despite not finding any fecking weapons or supplies ;D

I also thought that people could share their survival stories here if you have any. Being an open ended game, with tonnes of shit going on and plently of people playing, even the most mudane boring of times in the game can be interesting. ;)

Mapping / Railroad Station One (4P)
« on: June 27, 2011, 04:16:15 AM »
Historically, the Central Station of Stalingrad was a scene of intense fighting, changing hands at least 14 times during the 5 months the battle raged, at one point it changed hands 4 times in a single day.

This map is loosely based on the campaign level from Call of Duty 2 of the same name.

It's still a WIP, I have some OOB stuff to shove down and some extra detailing to do, but it should be ready tomorrow  ;D

Download is here -

http://www.gamefront.com/files/20501003/4p_railroad_station_one.rar

To install, place the SGA in the 'company of heroes\Eastern_Front\Archives' directory
Open the Eastern_Front module file in notepad (find it in the root CoH directory)
Where you see the line
Code: [Select]
[data:common:01], add to the bottom of the list underneath it -
Code: [Select]
archive.27 = Eastern_Front\Archives\4p_railroad_station_one.sga... replace '27' with whatever the next number is in the sequence.
Save the module file and play!

First, some history -

Quote from: Wikipedia
Pavlov's House (Russian: дом Павлова—dom Pavlova) became the name of a fortified apartment building during the Battle of Stalingrad from 27 September 1942 to February 2, 1943. It gained its popular name from Sergeant Yakov Pavlov, who commanded the platoon that seized the building and defended it during the long battle.
As you probably got from that short history lesson, this is a historical map set in Stalingrad around the famous/infamous 'Pavlovs House'. The map is based on actual aerial pictures on the area around Pavlovs House, although I have taken some Artistic licence and cratered the fuck out of it ;)

Although the house itself isn't anything special (I haven't made it indestructible or anything), it is a semi-strategic position on the map as it is next to two Victory Points (in VP mode), overlooks a High Munition point, has windows on all sides and is perhaps the only safe building on the map (that is, it's not on the verge of collapse)

Balance Discussion / RECREW BUG - EXPLANATION & FUTURE
« on: May 04, 2010, 02:13:10 PM »
Every now and then we hear people complain about the recrewing issues the Soviets have. Since this problem doesn't look like its going to go away any time soon, I shall explain briefly why the Soviets have this and the various other strawmen that have arisen -

THE BUG

Soviets CANNOT capture or recrew weapons. This is a hardcoded problem that arises when adding in a new faction instead of replacing an old one. This bug is beyond our control, and beside replacing the other factions, there is nothing we can do about it without support from Relic.

Soviets CAN however capture light weapons like Shrecks, LMG42s (not tripods), BARs, Recoiless rifles, Bazookas, Brens etc. Soviets can also reinforce their own weapon crews.

All OTHER factions (US, Brits, Wehr and PE) CAN recrew or caputre Soviet weapons since they are not affected by the recrew bug.

THE FUTURE OF THIS BUG

Currently, the bug could be with us for some time. However, we have contacted Relic over this bug recently and the response has been somewhat positive

Relic community manager -
Can you guys put together a list, prioritized, of things you'd like Relic to do... make it so re-crewing weapons possible etc.  We don't have any time right now for much of anything... but we'll at least investigate for the future, eh

A solution to this bug would not only be good for Eastern Front, it would be beneficial to the CoH modding community as a whole. Relic have helped us in the past and we hold hope that they will go the extra mile to help us again in the future.

Any updates will be posted here, until then, this is the way things are for now.

Mapping / What do people look for in a map?
« on: April 23, 2010, 11:34:05 AM »
Market research :P

I'd like to know what you personally look for in a map. Anything missing from the Poll, just say and I'll put it up.
