General Discussion / Re: PLEASE READ EVERYONE!
« on: April 27, 2013, 11:30:43 AM »
The suggestions aren't insulting but the use of a capital letter on EVERY word is. You don't need to do this in English. Only capitalise the first letter of a sentence and proper nouns.

Spotter teams reveal camo with the flare.

Snipers and flaks need another unit to spot for them. This is for gameplay reasons and means you should use combined arms.

Soviet firebase has a little longer range than US howitzer.

More CPs after maxing the doc is intended, so you can see kills in FoW. You're right that this isn't in vanilla but is added because it is very useful.

Soviets don't need to be exactly like the other factions. Soviets start with no units, OH starts with 2. The same applies to medics; not everyone needs them.

Observers have artillery because Soviets lack doctrinal ~3CP arty strikes from offmap. The unit is not that different from the Wehr officer really.

CS doesn't need to be 1 man, same as above. They are different from other factions for flavour reasons. The game would be boring if every faction had the same things.

I Don't Think Soviets Had Tank Hunters..
-isn't really a valid point. Soviets would surely have men equipped for anti-vehicle duties. Tank Hunters are rubbish at long range, or against front armour. They are very strong and useful up close, or when hitting the rear of a vehicle. Use them to support other AT, or use the Strelky VPGS nade to stun vehicles to run THs up close.

Very Big Problem - Many Players Turn Off Their Speakers When Using Naval Forces Or Guards Or Command Squad.
How do you know what many players do? I think these sounds are fine myself.

PTRDs are fine. You are not using them correctly for their intended purpose.

Guards don't need AT.

Problem - Upgrade Times & Build Times Of Soviet Faction Is Too Fast Compared To Other Factions.
Got numbers and proof it is too fast? Or just guessing?

Red Tide is specifically set out to be a midgame power to boost your strength. Its use is comparable to arty etc. but in a different way. Units that cost MP are OPTIONS because you either spend MP on the callin, or on a non-doc unit. Red Tide provides infantry at a muni cost to really emphasise the infantry spam; you can still get non-doc units or NI/kats with your MP. It is more comparable to MP Blitz than a callin, except that you don't get to choose what to spend it on.

Kats aren't comparable to a Calliope at all. They only shoot a fraction of the rockets and their value was calculated many patches ago based on the number of rockets. They are also far easier to kill than Callies and can't be replaced by AWM.

Unless you are willing to do the voices and sound effects for the mod, there's not much point asking about it. It takes a huge amount of work and doesn't add all that much to the game. The Russian voices feels more appropriate to some people anyway (including myself) for authenticity and the game is easily playable without the notifications in English.

Haha I totally picked it. This is good news because most of the Eastern/Greek factions so far have been quite large starting factions and I always find it nice to start small and build the empire the way you want it.

I think another reason for the day 1 DLC is from a marketing perspective. They want to make the DLC seem user-friendly and easily accessible to people so they buy future ones. A lot of people are turned off by DLC because they see it as annoying or unnecessary and I think this aims to change this. I personally like DLC (although many people don't) so long as the base game is complete and stands on its own. Releasing DLC that should be part of the base game is a no-no IMO but I'm happy to support developers that continue to show commitment to their product and release new things.

I don't think they will release a Greek alliance anymore. There's word that there's 117 factions across 180ish provinces (regions?), which means it's similar to Shogun where lots of clans own one territory. So it's very likely that there will be individual Greek states like Athens or Corinth and that they are strongly aligned to each other at the beginning.

The Earth would be a lot different, Greek culture may have had less of an impact on how we are nowadays, I personally think that Islam would be the bigger religious force, due to Persia being Africa/Middle East, but then again. I know nothing of Pre-1400AD, or much about Religion.

Islam would not be the main religion. Achaemenid Persia had the state religion of Zoroastrianism but was also very tolerant of other religions, much like the Romans. Islam didn't come until hundreds of years later during Sassanid Persia (not the same) and only exploding during the Arab conquests due to a weakened and fragmented East.

Persian culture was no less developed than Greek culture, and in many cases moreso. The major differences between the two were Athenian philosophy and democracy. However, democracy disappeared for 1500 years anyway. Persians also prohibited slavery which is something the Greeks and Romans made use of extensively. So perhaps the Persian empire winning could've had a lasting effect on the prevalence of slavery in the world. What would be more interesting is the effect of an extant Achaemenid Persia on a growing Roman republic.

Maybe the English language would be more of a German-Latin-Parsi mix instead of German-Latin-Greek?

Sorry for derailing, continue with WW2.

Red Army Suggestions / Re: Please remake the SU-100!
« on: April 22, 2013, 12:53:01 PM »
Looks like you didn't even read the thread before performing necromancy. The reasons stated are pretty sound. Ostwind functions as an anti-infantry tank, and therefore has a place already. SU-100 is an assault gun/tank destroyer like the SU-76 and SU-85 but is just better than both. The only way it fits is as a gun upgrade for SU-85 but this would probably ruin too much balance.

Old Relic (for DoW, CoH)
Ensemble Studios (for AoE and AoM)
CA (TOTAL WAR!)
Bioware (for everything excluding DA2)
LucasArts (Pretty much any SW game)

Nobody will agree with me on this last one, but EA. They do develop some good games like CnC:Generals or BFME. They get a lot of crap for being money whores but that's true of all the big publishers like THQ, Blizzard etc. and their sports games are actually pretty good if you ignore the fact there's a new one every year. So basically, I like the developer side of EA but not the publishing side.

I don't see how 22x armour would give issues, since you can change it freely for axis weapons without messing with any other balance. Anyway, I don't see why you would change armour type, just hp.

So Egypt is announced and looks awesome. I also love how in the Egyptian picture it shows the pikemen with different shields, which is fantastic. I also like how it seems they've made Egypt more of a successor state (which it was) compared to vanilla RTW where Egypt was New Kingdom style with chariots and big hats.

However, it's also interesting that there is now a 9th space on the faction list, which will hopefully be some Greek state or alliance. If not, Pontus would an interesting choice as a small-starting faction.

Suggestions / Re: American Reward Unit Suggestion - Jeep w/ 37 mm M3
« on: April 05, 2013, 03:24:51 PM »
Jeeps are quite possibly one of the worst units in the game, with the only exception being an abuse of the infantry AI mechanics and forcing infantry out of cover. Since the others have already defined the terms I used, I'll explain why the Jeep is so bad.

The gun. The jeep has one of the worst weapons in the game and will even have difficulty fighting against flanked MG crews. The Jeep will often not even kill a retreating Sniper, despite being a supposed hard counter. Compare this to the bike, who is fast and armed with a much more effective weapon, which will almost always kill a retreating Sniper unless a mine or support units stops it. Jeeps are also hard countered much earlier by Paks from Wehr, while the bike is not necessarily countered by 57mms (dodges) and only needs to be risked for a shorter period of time due to increased firepower. BARs and Brens are very effective against it at close range but a good player will always stay away, or retreat if damaged. Compare this to the burst damage from Shreks, fausts, or a hidden Pak.

Now, we look at the PE matchup. Jeeps are much better vs PGs than volks. They are able to harass effectively and are almost OP in early game engagements for pushing PGs out of cover (who absolutely need to group in cover to be effective). The Jeep is better at harassing kettenkrads as well. With the armour doctrine, your jeep can also back cap which PE has a fair bit of trouble dealing with. Finally, it isn't truly hardcountered until much heavier vehicles like Marders or T4 vehicles come out. Until then, it can be useful to block the movement of an AC while rifles sticky for example.

So if we compare the two, Jeeps are more useful against PE because of their abilities innate to any other vehicle. Against wehr, they are essentially a waste of resources (although still fun to cap around with armour doc). BARed rifles are usually more effective vs Snipers, or of course a countersniper of your own with Airborne doc.

Jeeps are awful vs Snipers. They're actually already better vs PE for blocking vehicles and cover pushing.

Balance Discussion / Re: [1.72]SU vs PE
« on: February 27, 2013, 03:04:25 PM »
You BUFFED Strelky rifles and lowered Light Tankovy costs?!

This patch sounds terrible from what I've read but I'll reserve judgement until (if) I play beta. I have to add that hardcaps are not a way to balance. Limiting cons to 3 is reducing possible build orders. It seems to me that a lot of things are heading towards US gameplay, which is what I was trying to prevent before I left. AT + VPGS = AT + Stickies.

I think Egypt and some sort of Greek alliance or city-state will be the last two. I'm not too happy about this clear focus on Rome and the Western barbarians. I wish there was more emphasis on the East.

Because Egyptian troops have less heat penalty, look cooler and have good native troops to augment them. Macedon is quite stale. I like the Successor states because they have that extra bit of flavour, like Eastern troops for Pontos or Elephants for Epirus or Seleucia.
