General Discussion / Re: COH2 and Easternfront mod...
« on: April 03, 2013, 09:04:55 PM »
There are already a number of gameplay vids up on Youtube(one is over 1hour long)....no doubt they'll be removed soon, but from what I saw....graphics, physics and animations are considerably better. Some of the FX are inferior to COH1 like explosions on ground etc which now seem to look a lot more like those in DOW2. Gameplay has a long way to go and at the moment looks rather disappointing compared to COH. Lines of sight are too short, infantry  weapons have no damage output until units are at very short range...suppression doesn't appear much in game,,,and everything seems to move slower even in summer maps...
AI looks appallingly bad...much like vanilla COH there is no weapons/Tanks re-crewing, AT gun spam which drive past enemy tanks and into enemy bases....ignoring FOW etc

Given that there are 3 months to go till release I'm hoping to see major changes by that time

So Ruski scouts like the MP40. Fine. Did the officers and tankers prefer it too? To the point that they used it exclusively?

I can see why tankers would prefer it over the ppsh41 because of the foldable stock...until the pps43...you can also say its a Trophy weapon and makes the characters looks tougher and distinct.

I think the film just wanted to show 'tank action'...the horror of tank combat/ tank crews, something rarely depicted in war films which focus on infantry and/or pilots.  The message in the end was probably that...although they defeated the Nazi Monster Tiger (representing the Nazi ideal) in the end, but they didn't wipe it out and it can come back in 10 50 100 yrs (as ideals are almost impossible to kill). So, one must be vigilant and be ready to fight the ''monster''... you could say the russian tanker represents the russian spirit/army that was battered and re-forged in flames of war better and stronger....it could also not be killed and emerged victorious....all a bit dramatized really :P

Russian scouts favoured the MP40, while german scouts favoured PPSH 41s....true historical irony  ;)

Funnily enough the Russians have recently made an amazing Tiger 1 copy for movies:

I hope any movie hence forth depicting a Tiger uses it!

Awww cutie wee tiger baby no longer easy squishy squishy all bad menz tankz.....awww.....

IS2 is spamable but we'll forget the Panther and the bought vet for tanks, which you get no matter how many and deftly you loose...you don't know how the panther vs Pershing fights go I take it...I gave up on logic some time ago, look forward to some more ''adjustments'' to save the big cats

Im sure its a spotter

One has a scope and the other one doesn't. So it looks like what we use to have. Like vCOH it will take some patched to iron out the balance, but in truth any unit can be balanced if you teak the stats well enough and I trust Relic. Plus someone mentioned their accuracy not being as good vs moving targets. Hopefully they'll have limited the snipers impact in the game overall. Currently they're too much of a focal point far more than MG/Mortars.

Given that they said COH2 covers  the entire war in the East including storming Berlin, you will have a mix of units from the entire war, much like we do. They've also mentioned how technology changed throughout the campaign meaning you'll get stuff like T34/76 & KV1, transitioning to T34/85/IS2...how that is achieved we can only guess.

Replying to Apemen:
The StuG could be a III or a IV, we cannot accurately tell from this picture. That means that it could very well be the same model as the CoH StuG (like the other German vehicles will probably be). Also, the gray-top troops in the first picture are seen exclusively wielding kar98s. However, in the second one, they are seen with a mixture of kar98s, mp40s, and what looks like either a PzB39 or an MG34. This is in contrast to the brown-tops, who are not present in the first picture, and present in the second only wielding kar98s. This leads me to believe that the brown-tops may well be the new volks (tier 1 infantry), while the gray-tops are the gren replacement (tier 2) and can purchase weapon upgrades.
Its clearly a stugIII if you know your tanks  ;). The PzIV, Panther Tiger tanks look to have the same models as vCOH and there is even a wreck of a recently destroyed Sdkfz250. It's interesting to see that tanks like the T34 have different skins/stowage although the question is how that is controlled. As for uniform colours, the pre-release vCOH pictures showed many differences to the released product, so I'd wait till we see the final ones.

For a laugh...I'll direct your attention to this link:

and the line stating:
- You are able to steal the enemies vehicles

Seems like an old friend wants to come back:

The tractor from the original reappears in its old shape :D :D

BTW that German tank looks pretty much like a Panzer III..

Nope....its the same Pz4 model as in vCOH...not changed(no extra details and same down to the J type exhausts) apart from the colour scheme which is white :)

Which brings up the very interesting point of...can you import all vCOH models into COH2 so you can play the same vCOH in the Essence 3 engine? No need for re-modeling and re-animating what has already been created for COH?

They won't rip us off, but since they want to keep it similar to vCOH but improved...and they are making soviets...they're bound to have some similarities.
It also depends how much different the combat system becomes as they are talking a lot about 'realism'. It could be that (like the weather effects) they're enhancing 'troop moral' mechanics where as squad that takes too many casualties automatically retreats and so on...

The website is on now :0

Thread cleaned up. Please stick to posting on what the thread is about, not random things (flaming etc).

Thanks
