Balance Discussion / Re: Regarding 1.501 Conscripts
« on: August 27, 2011, 10:36:05 PM »
Right now my conscripts spend more time at my HQ being reinforced than actually fighting. They're simply too fragile late-game. Vet (like retreat) is one of those core mechanics that is central to CoH and every unit should have it.

new changelog is awesome, thank you Rizz...

though one thing bothers me:

For the Motherland
* Conscripts can be upgraded with full rifles for 50 munition per squad.

this ability will be, frankly speaking, useless. Find me somebody who's going to pay 50 mun to give those guys extra rifles... they die like flies, and mostly are used to... rush&die tactics... damn, even with 25 munitions I would wonder if it's worth to upgrade them.

Especially with them not being able to gain vet (which I don't understand why this was necessary) - the upgrade doesn't seem like it's worth it.

Can you guys upload the patch notes while we wait for the release?

Anything by David Glantz. If you have the money, his books on Deep Battle and Soviet operational art/armored manoeuver are worth it.

Off Topic / Elemental: War of Magic

Anyone else waiting anxiously for this game?

The game is in its second last beta stage and will hopefully come out August 24th (according to Stardock).

If you haven't heard of it, it's a turn based strategy game similar to Master of Magic. Its engine is also being marketed as extremely moddable (it uses XML and Python for modding).

Here is the website:

You can get in the beta by pre-ordering the game - be warned though, this game has a REAL beta and not the betas most people are used to. This is a beta which isn't meant for fun but for fixing the game and finding bugs.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

As I said we need to rename this SPG because people do not remember the word Zveroboy. "Beastslayer" is the best translation.

What's wrong with Zveroboy? I like it the way it is now :)

hmm can some one confirm that the PPsh41 was more accurate than the MP40 ?

Not looking at anecdotal evidence we can see that the PPSh has a longer barrel (269 mm vs. 251 mm) than the MP40 and also has less recoil. Given this, it makes it more accurate.

As I read, army used the box magazine for ППШ-41, the same way as for Thompson. Although there are more disk magazines on photographs. That's probably for the style, just like capes (cloaks).

That's a good point Artemis. In fact, I recently read about this: Soviet war time photographers preferred to take pictures of Soviet soldiers with the drum magazine instead of the box magazine because that's how ordinary folk recognized the weapon.

PPSh all the way. Low recoil, reliable and high rate of fire makes it the best submachine gun of the war. I don't know why everyone is fascinated with the MP40 since German soldiers themselves preferred to use the PPSh.

I like your idea. But I think it would be better if the soldiers were killed as soon as they reached the front line. Why should they wait until the retreat starts? There's not much fun in your suggestion if people have to WAIT until soldiers start retreating. That's boring!

Getting more money from people who have already paid, and doing minimal work in the process, is the lifeblood of any creative business.

That's the trend at the moment but it doesn't mean it has to be that way.
