question my friend had and emailed me. can someone answern it?
« on: January 25, 2010, 07:06:03 PM »
I have to reboot my entire system, because I run out of space to add the online patch that COH has created. i use a mac and run bootcamp by the way. I ran out of space, I didn't set aside enough, can you find something out for me?  I need to know what I need to do with the download we did from Steam, if I delete the entire PC side off, will I have access to my software download for the COH addition we added last summer?  I assume so, but I am guessing I will need my Steam acct information.  Can u verify that for me from Steam?

That will save me time, if that is no problem, then I will reboot my PC side and add more space this time around.  Will take me a day or so to do everything, reload Windows XP and so forth lol, then load up COH from scratch, then download the Steam download, then download eastern front, so atleast 1 day of downloading lol, can start tonight maybe.

It took me a while to figure out what your question is.

Your steam directory is independent from your program files. For example, if your windows is installed in C:\windows and steam is installed on D:\steam , then you can reinstall windows in C:\ and not loose any of your games on steam and you do not have to redownload them.

PS: in my home I have steam installed on a network drive so multiple computers access steam games over the network, just with different accounts.

well my friend has a mac computer. he added a pc side so he can play company of heroes. but he didnt convert much memory over to the pc side. he has company of heroes and all the expansions. he wants to get eastern front but he doesnt have enough space. in order to add more space to his hardrive he needs to take the pc side off and do it all over again but add more memory this time. he will obviously have the original company of heroes games but his question is, can he get the latest expansion that he bought of steam? maybe with his steam account or something?

1. Can he get latest expansion that he bought of steam?

When you buy a game on steam and then download it, it actually downloads the game to the latest patch so he shouldn't worry about getting the latest version. If he downloads the game from steam, it will be up to the latest patch available.

You are confusing. In order to get an appropriate answer you have to be more specific on what is going on.

If he bought COH on a CD and Tales of Valor on steam he can just download ToV from steam and then start the game and login with relic account (which is separate from steam account) and then add other cd key licenses that he purchased on CDs. It really doesn't matter which combination he bought from where. You can add licenses to one excising relic account.

For example, if someone would give me a CD and I install it and add all the latest patches to v 2.601 I can easily login with my relic account that hass all 3 games on it COH , OF, ToV that I purchased from steam. This would work the other way arround with steam. It only takes to buy at least one version of the game from steam - either COH, OF, or ToV it doesnt matter.
