Can Kursk get more fuel?
« on: March 04, 2012, 12:53:36 AM »
It's just that, Kursk is such an iconic tank battle and it really doesn't have too much fuel. All the fuel on the map (IIRC) is around 30-40ish (2 mediums and either 2 or 4 lows) so each side will have around 15-20 fuel per minute. Yes you can OP the points, but many other maps have significantly higher fuel such as lyon. My suggestion is to change the corner points to high fuels and the center point to a high fuel as well.

I think, if you play Prokhorovkka map you will find there is sufficient fuel for a massive tank battle. That's where the Tank battle occurred, IIRC. I think the Kursk map is to represent the inital part of the campaign when the Axis tried to plow through the massive defensive belts the Soviets had prepared. The Kursk map only has good ground for tank warfare on the flanks. The Soviet Right Flank is easily defenced to block an Axis Panzer thrust there. I think from a historical relevance perspective these two maps are the best of the lot. THe new Berlin map shows great promise as well.

To change everything to high fuel would hurt balance. Typically fights break out to harass an enemies' med/high fuel or even take it for yourself. If ALL the points are high fuel what would be the rush to assault key points?

This, and:

I rest my case. Kursk is geared for competitive play like Fish suggest, not a camp war like Lyon is more suited for where both sides need a favorable amount of resources. Kursk has 3 key fuel points which are located near the VPs. Typically the way battles happen is that the middle fuel turns into a stalemate where there is constant warfare and fighting in that region, however, since the map is decently designed with it's open spaces there are tons of ways to "Pinch" and flank that area and win that battle.

The FP at the upper right side of the  Sov base area cannot be outposted by the sovs. is this a glitch or intentional?

It's an issue with the Soviet Outpost being too large, based off of the 17 pounder emplacement. It happens on several maps. The team has already resolved this problem though :)

Do you know when the change is planned to be implemented?

Eh, I thought this issue was resolved a while ago, but I stand corrected.

On this topic, am I the only one who finds that kursk is impossible for defensive players.
They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can't get away from us now!

THe Kursk map is suitable for defensive play. Besides all the marvelous defences built in to the map itself the Soviet start right flank can be denied to all vehicles incabable of crushing roadblocks/dragons teeth; which means it can also be denied to aggressively oriented infantry forces,(but not forever). Two engineers and a little combat support can effectively deal with this. The FP, VP , and MP in the opposite corner can be similarly blocked from both start positions but is susceptable to MG enfilade in process, allowing ACs/to come up before the area can be adequately sealed. The central fortifications with the VP and muni P? can be blocked temporarily/(possibly to vehicles as well) with a 3 engineer start and MGs/2MGpits but it is a risky gambit that a skillful player Should thwart.

See also the MG strat start on gamereplays for other suggestions.

If you are facing PE with any skill at all many of these ideas will be difficult to implement for Sovs, but PE/Scorched earth can implement all but the central strategy.
