Veterancy suggestion.
« on: March 04, 2012, 10:13:43 AM »
Hi everybody.

I know the Ostheer veterance system is already made, but i will still suggest my idea, since i think the Ostheer and Sovjet vet is just kind'a copy paste from americans:

Why not make the Ostheer veterancy come over time. Every single squad will begin some kind of "veterancy countdown" after they have been fielded.

Like veterancy 1 comes after X minutes
Veterancy 2 comes after X minutes
And veterancy 3 comes after XX minutes

This mean, that the veterancy WILL come no matter what - but it can't come fast. The vetted squads are just as precious as other factions (except wehr).
The player will also have to decide if he want to invest in some units NOW, that he don't know if he needs - but he will gain the vet earlier.

Balancing wise, im a little unsure if it will make the Ostheer to weak in early/mid game, because they wont have any vetted squads. But in late game, they will become strong - if they manage to keep their squads alive.

I suggest this, because i think the vet system should be unique for every faction (like in vCoH), and i think thís will make the Ostheer playstyle more unique.

Best Regards

Andreas

Well then, it's an interesting idea, but I see a very easy exploit for it. Most people would go Fortress doctrine while using Ostheer and turtle until all their units were maximum vet and then charge into the enemy lines destroying everything in their path, and since most Allied Armies gain Vet from combat, they would have few Vetted troops (maybe some mortars or other artillery emplacements) to face the onslaught.

Hello, thanks for the reply.

Sitting along in base wont be a good idea in a 1v1 VP game. THe enemy will get the VPs, the good resource sectors, the mapcontrol, the teching and what have you.
If someone mange to lock down and camp, holding the VPs, having mapcontrol and outtech the enemy, then i think he deserves to win!

Well I never said that he would camp at his base, he would probably camp at the VPs, with MGs and PantherTurms. Turtling anywhere isn't very sportsmanlike, but if your Vet system becomes a reality it will encourage such behavior in the less experienced players

It sounds like a better idea for SU veterancy to me. Soviets were pretty lousy at the start of the war, but built up experience well, and ended quite strong. Does anyone know EXACTLY how SU veterancy works? It seems like its the same as the US system, and if that's the case, an upgrade won't be so bad.

SU veterancy is similar to US veterancy. I believe Ostheer will also  be similar to US vet in that you must fight to get better

If you ask me Battle Vet is the most logical type of vet.

Staying on the field, but doing nothing doesn't teach you anything other than how to pitch a tent XD. I despise Wehr Vet for that very reason, you buy it, and while it does chip the economy a tad, it also affects all units in that class, which means that any game where you have an over-reliance on a particular group of units, you have an instant advantage in combat while the Amis, Brits, PE, SU, and Ostheer lose their vetted troops upon their death.

Yes but as someone explain on GR.org, rifles get free BARs which counter Wehr vet and Sherman gets free 76mm upgrade which counters tank vet.

the sherman upgun upgrade is not for free
you have to research it and its global (like all researchable upgrade for usa)

fighting for vet is also for me the only logical way to implement vet

and after the vet is already implemented i dont think we will change it again :P

i agree, fightinng for vet is the best way. however, since the game is still balanced, i have no qualms.

To tell the truth when I first see Wehr's vet it makes me think of battle between C&C vs Starcraft...
I mean in C&C your units get better through battle while Starcraft each units mostly are hard-counter and get better through upgrades...
There are examples of success so maybe the dev thinks it will works...
And I think it work...

To tell the truth I wish EF to employ different type of vet which already work in other game, but it is certainly easier to balance system that mostly used (the "through battle" one)...
I am sorry for my bad
