Title: New Mapping Project!
Post by: MonolithicBacon on October 11, 2012, 10:58:05 PM
Well ladies and gents, I have finished yet another mapping project and believe it or not, I am actually starting to run out of ideas. Although there are countless battles to create scenarios for, it is far easier to have somebody else to choose for you. I am willing to make just about anything!

So, while my workload out of the mod is increasing I am leaving this poll open, so that when my workload lessens for the holiday (in two weeks time), I can begin work on the map of your choice!

Please vote! Everybody has three votes (just in case you want to see more than just one thing), and if you have a specific scenario you would like to see, vote and leave a comment! Even if it doesn't win the poll, it will certainly go on my to-do list!

Also, if you happen to choose "Other?", please comment and let me know what exactly you prefer! I can easily add more categories to the list!

What about creating a map where you fight inside a building? There are alot of industry objects in the WB. Somehow i liked the maps of C&C red alert inside a building complex.
Also a similar map of battle of mahiljou seems nice. Something russian like (open wide planes and wooden villages)

No Walkisch, we need competitive 1v1 maps. Don't distract him from his divine task!

Who said that SP maps won't be adapted to MP? ;).

I would like open industry/city 1v1 or 2v2 maps (Other options). Like Langres or Angoville with a city/industry atmosphere.

Firstly, consider it done!

Secondly, hell yes.

Thirdly, I'm flattered.

Who said that SP maps won't be adapted to MP?

Fourthly, is it easier to convert from SP to MP, or from MP to SP?

And finally, I'm loving the amount of ideas that people are coming out with! I'm impressed! But whether you have a specific idea or not, don't forget to vote! Something tells me that this is going to be a busy poll before the end...

Campaign maps are usually bigger than they should be and making maps smaller is definitly a lot easier ;).

There we have it! SP it is!

Also, I couldn't help but laugh to see that every category has at least one vote, bar swampland.

You guys!

It looks like Hill maps are winning! Although personally I am always daunted by the openness of hill maps, I can see this being quite interesting... Still, there's time yet!

Mamayev Kurgan ;)

That would be epic - but I wanted to reserve that for a possible campaign :P

Oh, so I guess you're on the case of the missing epic battlefields? Awesome!  ;D

Dennis has a point, we do need more 1v1's. Mamayev Kurgan is at least a 3v3 in my mind. The new Kharkov map was supposed to be a 1v1, but I suck at judging map size :P

Tell me about it. Prague ended up 2vs2 in the end. And you're right about Mamayev Kurgan; to justify it, it's need to be at least 6 players. I was thinking maybe some of the hills in Teterev. Less famous, and simple!

I have always wanted to make some Italian maps, to be honest. I replicated Dawn of War's "Into the Breach" in an Italian-esque city, but that was years ago!

And I wonder if people are voting for Urban ruins because they haven't seen the upcoming maps... Although, if somebody could make something similar to Caen, I would be very impressed. That's a project I have never been able to task myself with.

I had an Italian map in the works but gave it up due to crap computer, loss of time, and flawed designs.

Sadly, there's not many buildings to support Italian maps unless it's pretty much strictly rural.

When in doubt, ruins. Flattened buildings have a strange tendency to look similar no matter where in the world they are.
But I know what you mean! It's a shame we're limited.

I considered making new textures for buildings to make them more similar to the Motherland but I've run short of time as said earlier :(

Though it might be a distraction, anything of the Italian type from you I would be ecstatic about :D

I would love to do something! Once the next map pack is out, I'll pretty much be out of a job, so there's no point in me not making new things! Even if they are off-topic.

Honestly, some of the pale-plaster buildings from the holland list can seem Italian-esque, but not many! I'd be damn limited.

Still, who knows what the future holds! On that topic, as anybody ever seen an urban hillside map before? This could get interesting...

Has that map ever come into fruition?

And secondly, are there any specific battles when Soviets clashed on Mediterranian soil? I don't know my Eastern Front History as much as I'd like to!

I would've voted industrial ruins but unfortunately Company of Heroes don't offer a good gameplay when fighting inside buildings. Like you can have a huuuuuge factory but only garrison 3 squads, it totally takes away the fighting inside factories. If you though, I'd really like to see something the Red October factory.

If you like dense, industrial warfare, keep an eye out for Novorossiysk, coming within a month or so. That should be what you're looking for.

At least we have a clear winner at the moment... Granted, any votes in a different direction could throw us into a draw but still...

Settlement with countryside, huh?

Smaller version of Villers Bocage, anyone?

While it'd serve little Utility to the EF cause, that's the perfect setting for a Mediterranean map :)

I meant to say, I've already started a Mediterranean 1vs1 map!

I'm in love with it already! Even if it doesn't find a place on the mod, I'll post it online when it's done.

I literally JUST thought of this... But what about a town based on the one in the Movie "Kelly's Heroes"? Semi-ruined mid-sized rural township with church and other civic building around a central plaza...

Sure, in the strictest sense it'd be 'western front', but I'm not talking about THAT accurate a copy :P

Battle of Mahilyou is my favourite EF map, because its closest to a russian like settlement in the middle of nowhere. If you want to make a sovet houses pls ask Walki for the correct house models, since most of the objects ingame are western town related. GL mapping

Don't worry about that! I know which models to use; I'm doing a rural map as we speak.

So we have a few hours left, and a draw! Either way I'm planning maps as we speak, but there is still a pressing matter:

Considering that 1vs1 maps are sought after right now, I wanted to ask what size map would you say is too big for a 1vs1. In my opinion, Lyon (2) is far too big, but if I am to make this Poll winner into a 1vs1, I want it large enough to be unique, interesting and contain the specifications of the description!

So, how big is too big?
