After playing a few games in beta COH2....i was really depressed...so much time for developing this "game"....
I never thought, that mod could be so much better then the official second part of the game...really...devs u"ve done so hard work for fans free...!!!
Still w8ing my favorite mod with both rus and ostheer, balanced and so cool texturized =)
-
Remember we are giving away beta passes for the Ostheer Beta from time to time :). So, stay tuned! :).
Sorry to hear you disliked it. What opinion can you give about it or are you unable due to some contract thingy?? What did you like and what not?
-
We're not supposed to talk about it due to the NDA but so many are playing it it's probably not going to stay secret for too long.
First things first, you can't play online. Every time you manage to connect to a multiplayer game, everyone desyncs and crashes the game. You can only play against the AI.
Hey, I just wanna play the game, I'll do a little comp stomp with easy AI. Nope, massive amounts of rapid fire 90-100% accurate mortars rain down on you none stop. It's just really bad. Also, graphically speaking it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade at all.
I understand it's a beta and some of these issues will be fixed but good god if they released it back when they initially planned? Hahaha...yeah.

The one thing that annoys me is that all the models are missing. :P Humans, weapons, strategic points, etc. are all not there. It might have to do with my graphics card, but I was able to run CoH1 on low to medium-ish graphcis without lag. Now this...
-
Graphically I think CoH2 has been stylised a bit over CoH1, everything seems to have had it's edges softened. I know CoH isn't supposed to be a particularly serious game and it does inject a bit of humour into the mix, but there still needs to be a level of seriousness to keep it from becoming a complete abstraction of reality, and I think the particular model style and colour palettes they've used do take a lot away from what should be a gritty feeling war game.

TBH I never really cared for COH2, partly because my computer won't be able to take it, and partly because that I don't see how it adds more to gameplay of the current COH and all its mods. And I'm more of a gameplay over graphics guy.
I'm way more excited about Ostheer.
So release it quick guys. ;)

Are you my clone?

Coh2 looks like lite version of the 1st part...with new gamma, less units (IMHO they copied some of them from EF mod, I am talking about sniper group ;), simply gameplay, and buggy nav mesh controller.... I wanna think that in full version it will be fully fixed, but... ::)

The mortars are out of control. Especially the 120 mm Soviet mortars that you can get pretty early through on of the doctrines. My first couple games I had no idea what was up with the artillery bombardments, but I soon figured out that the AI likes to spam mortars.
There are some nice touches that I appreciate:
- Being able to capture abandoned vehicles
- A much better post battle stat breakdown
- The line of sight changes
- Vehicles seem to cost less manpower and more fuel
- The way that fuel and munitions are collected from all strategic points
Overall though, it feels less like the result of five years of improvements, and more like a standalone expansion with some bells and whistles. I'll still play EF, that's for sure.

Well they patched the online play issues so my friends and I have been able to fight other people. So far undefeated as the Germans (about 12 games so far). I initially did not like the game all that much but I am starting to warm up to it a bit more. The combat seems a bit different. I can't touch why, the way everyone moves, the damage dealt (or it seems lack there of) makes combats different from CoH.
Overall a fairly decent game, looking forward to fixes and updates.

Well if you like it then go play MoW! But don't touch my CoH! xD

There are already a number of gameplay vids up on Youtube(one is over 1hour long)....no doubt they'll be removed soon, but from what I saw....graphics, physics and animations are considerably better. Some of the FX are inferior to COH1 like explosions on ground etc which now seem to look a lot more like those in DOW2. Gameplay has a long way to go and at the moment looks rather disappointing compared to COH. Lines of sight are too short, infantry weapons have no damage output until units are at very short range...suppression doesn't appear much in game,,,and everything seems to move slower even in summer maps...
AI looks appallingly bad...much like vanilla COH there is no weapons/Tanks re-crewing, AT gun spam which drive past enemy tanks and into enemy bases....ignoring FOW etc
Given that there are 3 months to go till release I'm hoping to see major changes by that time

But there wont be, beta is the same like alpha in general

Thanks blacky, I got my free beta key. Thanks again :).

My only gripe is that is uses DX9. :P Causes me to have some MAJOR model issues: they're all missing!
Damn, I wish I could post a screenshot of it, but I don't want SEGA tracking me down and taking away my beta, even if it's unplayable (both with the models, and is pretty laggy with a computer).

I want to say "like they would come over here", but I after playing the beta it seems they are quit the forum lurkers.
*On a side note I am really loving some of the new assets
Removed Image, no breaching the CoH2 NDA, please -BB

Very possible.
But seriously, I think that there are a lotta people who don't give a sh1t about COH2. Personally, I lost faith in most modern video game companies. I tend to support independant modders (such as the EF dev team) more. And I think that the fact that these people spend much of their own time to create games that are many times better than the original is truly something to be respected and supported.

It's a joke..
CoH 1 runs on max detail on 1280x1024 even in 4v4. EF still runs at1154x864 max detail. CoH 2? Oh well just look for yourselves:

(oh and ofcourse I still have only around ~20 fps)
Really, are you fuckin kidding me? That's worse than DotA looked like back when I played wc3 on a 800mhz cpu with 128mb ram!! And just don't get me started on the gameplay...
edit: jsut a reference DotA/Wc3 - release date 2002:

It's weird as well because there's been no significant increase in model poly count from what I can see, besides the wheels on some tanks, and some extra effort in the infantry models/gear. All those extra little graphical tweaks must really chew up performance.

I actually wouldn't mind to play on minimum graphics if a) the gameplay would be at least almost as good as coh 1 and b) I could read the chat texts... Everything written is so blurry that I cannot even read what other people type ... This + strange gameplay + bad performance? no thx lol..

hmm 6.44, the hero shop is right behind the fountain ;D
I still haven't try coh 2 yet. Really don't give any shit about it. :P
-
Just asking, is it possible to get CoH2 running on DX9? MY computer gets bitchy when anything higher is used.

Nope.
No DirectX 9 Support (my information by my hq-coh-staff-members ^^).

>.<
Well, you can could me WAY out of the beta right now. Or, possibly until I get a desktop (probably not in the near future).
-
While I do enjoy CoH2, I find CoH1 with EF to be marginally superior. CoH2 has a frustrating AI, the mechanics are better on the drawing table than they are in action and some units are outright ridiculous (mortars in particular).
-
I like some of the new features, like weather control, ice etc. But overall the game feels much more cartoony, and not as realistic. All the explosion effects are smaller, tanks don't seems as threatening, and all infantry are equipped with MK III Power Armour, because they just don't die from small arm fire. Maybe they'll improve in this beta, but I like many others, am much more looking forward to Ostheer than COH 2, which is a shame I guess. Not saying this mod doesn't deserve praise(I love it) but I had such high hopes for COH 2, and they just haven't been met yet.
