Strategy and Tactics / Re: How does Wehrmact stop Tank Gaurds?

Flame. While I've been on the giving end of the spectrum, my Guards always had problems when hit with Flame (as long as I didn't micro vs V3 Pio).

Suggestions / Re: Eastern Front= Battle of Steel?

How about that all tanks are cheaper by half. So that you can make every battle "Kursk battle". Lot's of armor clashes and AT guns,or at least that some maps have cheaper armor, for example: "The Battle of Prokhorovka" map.

Ironic, on EF Kursk you can't have yourself a Kursk-type battle. Sure, play long enough and you may build yourself a tank, but by that point you'll more than likely have called in several.

@Ohmega - like I said in my post, I believe there should be more ammo management while playing with the Russians. Its not really fair towards the rest factions where you lack ammo for proper squad upgrades and you really have to decide when to upgrade or use given doctrine abilities.

Agreed, the disagreement came from the amount of munitions. For early game, especially on EF maps, I can collect perhaps 10-20/min IF I have overwhelming map control. Making a cost to anything more than that negates the Cmd Sq's artillery to force the Germans out of pre-positioned DFPs (ie, interlocking MG positions).,

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: The Ultimate Ostheer unit by far (Guaranteed!)

I like the Faust idea. To add to it, possibly allow the unit using the Faust to set up in an ambush and do a first-strike bonus hit on Russian armor.

But that would also be dependent on which unit gets the Faust.

And, sadly, I can't pass it up: Stalin can't repel firepower of that magnitude!!

1. Command Squad should be 3 persons. In early game it can be very hard for the opponent to stop a Command squad plus one or two squads of conscripts in the open field. Maybe you can make them a bit harder but they should be less than 5 man in my opinion. Also, I think it will be better if their artillery costs some ammo (like 50), reduce its cooldown a bit and keep it powerful as it is.

Command Squad does act as a T1 KCH; typically I'll get between 30-50 kills with it before T2/3 Wehr finally overwhelms it. That said, knocking it down to the major and only two bodyguards would swing the balance of favor to Wehr, especially if they have interlocking MGs covering each other.

I can support some kind of ammo cost, especially since it's Wehr's rockets but 50 would be too high... possibly 5-15, like how Relic had fireup cost munitions in previous patches.

As for your other suggestions, I just can't swing for them. No offense, but it almost seems that you want the Soviets to be... American.

Can't find a changelog for 1.04 (cause 1.02 didn't speak to SS time), but can speak through an anecdotal. Took me a good minutes to reinforce, seemed bout the same time as to make the unit to begin with, and had to be right next to the OP. But w/o that changelog, can't back a single thing up.

Balance Discussion / Re: Sniper ace...a bit to expensive?
« on: February 02, 2010, 06:37:18 AM »
My record is 130 kills with him, sadly I never really get past that point cause he gets killed, but I feel that I've earnt my fair share.

Funny cause by time you get him, Wehr T3 on the field. In fact, the one time I used Sniper Ace I lost him due to one 88 hit... from out of his range... on lower terrain... after only 2 kills.

Needless to say, I believe Urban needs to be a bit retooled before I use it again.

I don't blame the crashes as much as I do *most* of us have school or a profession.

2. Crush -  Ok I can see Why maybe the T34 does not have heavy crush, but the other tanks should.

I'll settle for tanks to be able to roll over simple wrecks like the Katyusha first.

Ironically Kursk is the best straight-infantry map due to lack of any mun/fuel. Because the Soviets have access to artillery (through Command Squad), you gotta be on the ball with the retreat button.

SU hulls are even worse than Katyusha's imo. SUs hulls are almost indistinguishable from active units, especially at the edge of FoW, and block even Tigers. One game after destroying 2 SUs, I didn't realize the Soviets moved a third up (that was stuck between the hulls) to overwatch my VP (which was corrected).

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Idea: Foreign Troop Barracks
« on: January 25, 2010, 12:06:53 AM »
They couldn“t do shit about it. Read "Stalingrad" by Antony Beevor. The Romanians had two obsolete AT guns to cover a front of dozens of kilometers when the Russians attacked with dozens of tanks and hundreds of men. Just like the rest of the German Army, they were abandoned completely by Hitler“s insanity about imaginary reinforcements.

I prefer The Fall of Berlin 1945 myself. Never said Romanians/Italians/Green People from Planet 49 could hold the Soviet attack. Just pointing out that it wasn't the Romanians alone (who in fairness never wanted to go east of Odessa) in allowing Operation Uranus to succeed.

As for the Spaniards, would there be a distinguishing between the Blue Division and the Falangists who made up the Blue Legion?

Does the Commissar Squad have the ability to kill their own men, or just leave it to the Mortars?

Balance Discussion / Re: Map Balancing
« on: January 24, 2010, 11:45:26 PM »
EF maps have almost nothing. Even capping on maps like Sevastpol, Kursk, or Stalingrad doesn't do much.

By increasing the ammo and/or fuel though, you run the risk of Soviet blobs overrunning your DFPs early on and going for upgraded blobs and tanks. And if you were to stack one side with all the resources, you'd be at the mercy of random start location.

It's a trade-off, but we'll see more maps (like Stalingrad) having more resources added.
