Red Army Suggestions / Re: Russian Transport Truck
« on: February 20, 2010, 03:26:39 PM »
If this is implemented the Resources should just be secured from caping and not increased. That would be against the Dev's wishes
I already think an outpost should do that. But that's just me, I guess

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: New look of the 88 Gun
« on: February 13, 2010, 01:26:40 PM »
Problem with a mobile 88, is that it would have to be towed. Unfortunately, no such animation is present in CoH and I'm pretty sure the modders can't add new animations.
What about making it be "pushed" like other artillery guns, or have it "lock" to a truck like British lieutenants and line infantry but make it lock on much closer so it "looks" like it is being towed.
This gun was bigger than a cromwell. It cannot be pushed.
That's a bit of an exaggeration. I think the Cromwell weighed about the same as a Sherman (+/- 30 tonnes) and a 88mm on a chassis weighed up to 10 tonnes. Of course, pushing it is impossible either way ;D I think I've heard about 88mm's being put on the chassis of PzKw IV's, but I don't think they saw action. Probably never made it beyond a prototype.

It's too bad really. I remember using the 88mm on a chassis, just like in that picture in the Sudden Strike games and they were my favourite guns.

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Italy?

Yeah, that was my thought too :)

Perhaps one of the doctrines or an ability for the Ostheer could represent the Axis satellite armies [...]

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Ostheer urban doctrine

Perhaps turn häuserkampf in an ability to fortify occupied buildings. Just like setting up a forward HQ, but instead of producing units, offering more protection to units inside and increasing the HP of the building. Effectively turning it into a sort of super-bunker.

Edit: I was wondering if it would even be possible to add a AT-gun that fires from inside the building? Honestly, I doubt it, but I remember seeing a mod that had an 88 in a bunker, so who knows.

what about the semovente series tank destroyers? the best of those had a 105mm gun on it.
The Semovente probably was the best armor the Italians built during the war. However, as far as I know, no Semoventes were deployed to the eastern front.

And I think some people are getting a bit ahead of themselves wanting an entirely new faction for Italy or Romania. Their part was far too small to justify their own faction and let's not forget they were the German's weakest link (e.g. The encirclement of Stalingrad was achieved by breaking the line at the Italian section). Not because they were inferior soldiers, but their equipment was incredibly poor and no match for the Russian tanks.

A few units or abilities would be nice, but nothing more.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Best Way to Use Tank Guards?

Tank guards, like regular guards, are great at taking out AT-guns and infantry with their grenade ability.

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Ostheer Veterancy concept

I don't like the veterancy/time idea. This pretty much means that a squad just sitting around "cleaning their rifles" would gain veterancy.

I like that all ;D (besides the last one) just make the Italians have some troops that fight rather than seduce

I hope it's obvious I meant the last one as a joke ;D
And like I said, even the rest is a vague suggestion at the most.

The only note-worthy Italian infantry on the eastern front I can think of right away would be the Alpini corps. Perhaps as a sort of Storm Trooper. As far as armour goes, they only had light tanks like the L6 and I just like the Toldi better ;D

For infantry, I'd much rather see some squads from the foreigners in the Waffen-SS. Though treated as second class soldiers, they often were the most fanatic and were excellent soldiers. (They were also collaborators and traitors, but let's not get political)

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Whats about horses for the Ostheer ?
« on: January 30, 2010, 05:57:42 PM »
Horses aren't in for the same reason we're not seeing transport trucks. They were used too get troops, hardware and supplies to the battlefield, but didn't really have a role on the battlefield itself.

Commanders would wisely keep their horses away from the actual fighting as they were far too valuable. Even the German 6th army, one of their most motorized, relied heavily on horses for transport. Of course, once immobilized in Stalingrad, their main value became nutritional ;D

Perhaps one of the doctrines or an ability for the Ostheer could represent the Axis satellite armies (Romanian, Hungarian, Finnish Italian, Slovak) and fascist volunteers from occupied Europe (Belgian, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch).

They definitely didn't make up the bulk of the German army, but I think their numbers on the eastern front were large enough to justify a representation in the Ostheer. Though I wouldn't go as far as calling it "necessary".

Just of the top my head, a few ways to represent the satellites through doctrine abilities

- Romanian oil: Temporarily increases your oil production or like "Resource Blitz" a large oil bonus added to your resource pool. During WW2 Romania's oil production was definitely vital to the German war effort. It's no stretch to say that a lot of German tanks on the eastern front ran on Romanian oil

- Hungarian Toldi: Call in a Hungarian Toldi light tank.  This would be the equivalent of the Russian T-70. A fast light tank, useful in the early game but no match for heavier armor like the T-34. (Plus, it's pretty tank :D)

- Captured T-34:  Call in a T34/76. In the early stages of the war, German success on the eastern front allowed them to capture a large number of T-34/76's. Satellite armies would gladly use them as they were far superior to their own equipment.

Wiking combat group : Call in the equivalent of the American "Off-map combat group", but with armor. The 5th SS Panzer Division "Wiking", was an armored division made up out of volunteers from occupied Europe (mostly Danish, Flemish, Dutch and Norwegian). It was considered an elite panzer division.

I just realised I didn't add anything Italian ;D

Captain Corelli's mandolin:: Call in a squad of Italian infantry costing very little manpower. They play music and seduce Russian women, lowering Russian manpower rate because of lower birth-rate.
