Replacing the British and the PE re-crewing with the Soviets and  the Ostheer is the best way to go here. One of the main problems that drove away so many players was the no re-crewing stuff, and if you get the soviets and ostheer to be able to recrew again, it might bring back people.
It's no big loss for the british to not re-crew; they have almost no mobile weapon systems that need re-crewing, being a 99% emplacement defensive battle sort of army, their emplacements usually get destroyed first rather than de-crewed, and the pe only have 2 emplacements, the flak 38 and 88, which isn't that big of a loss considering pe is more of a blitzkrieg style specialist vehicle army anyways, and pe isn't really meant to be played as a long defensive battle anyways-(that's what the wehrmacht defensive doctrine, and hopefully an ostheer doctrine will be for).

No retreat is very unique for the soviets and ostheer, both game play and historically (we all know it - both sides were forbidden from retreating on the east front, and often whole units fought it out to the last man, rather than retreat). And you've done a very good job of balancing no retreat with a command squad fire up! to break suppression and pinned.
Some would complain about how useless propaganda war ability is to that - just make the affected soviet units pinned for a minute or so without being able to fire up, if possible. (morale demoralization is also propaganda war, not just retreat).

Veterancy- in your manual it was described that the soviet units were already veterans, depending on the tier level. (hard coded already in their stats when they are built, right?) The same can be done for ostheer. I'm sure there are many people who didn't bother to read this tiny bit of info and that's why they complain. Although it might help the non-believeers if you show some kind of veterancy icon for the units (maybe some sort of red star system for the soviets, and  if possible, the old school  coh wehrmacht vet icons that are no longer used , for ostheer), for example conscripts  would be the same; no vet icon, strelky would have 1  vet icon, guards 2, and of course keep the 3 vet icon for upgraded units, so you know the affected upgrade is in effect.

Overall, keep up the good work, and good luck solving these issues.

Very true, they were also the first ones (or one of the first ones , I forget), to start experimenting with  paratroopers also.
I don't doubt their bravery and willingness to try out such risky maneuvers, but the failures were mostly due to stalin who  executed most of the pre-ww2 officer corps, many who were innovative, and creative enough to try bold moves, etc. And also thanks to stalins policy of having a commissar attached to every divisional commander, and giving every commissar the power to override any command or move they deemed as 'unfit', even if it meant saving  troops which gained battle experience and who could  be saved to fight another day. This policy was only removed in 1943 I believe, giving Soviet commanders the free will to command their own forces and finally start having large scale victories without losing too many people

But wait, there's more! Order today and you'll receive this rarely known information about the secret Soviet glider program, (gliders are also considered part of airborne forces) completely free of charge!

And here's some mountain troops pictures, though it appears more like they were regular army dudes who were sent into the mountains because there was an urgent need for reinforcements there. This was scanned from the book To the gates of Stalingrad, volume 1(of 3), by David M. Glantz (very good reading).

Here's some to get you started. Wasn't easy to find.

Updated with more...
(Thought this would be useful to show as an example) That map shows well how the soviet airborne operations ever conducted usually failed and/or didnt meet the xpected results,  due to poor planning and lack of coordination and cooperation.

Theyre saying 'schutzen-rudel' (dont know exact german spelling of it). 'Schutzen rudel' is some sort  german  infantry patrol formation,  kind of like a 'recon in force', 'advance on contact' or a probe of some sort.

good work here, I especially like the extensive detail you put in to the little  bunkers/shacks. Good work on making low fuel for both sides and that one big fuel point in the center, that should prevent early tank spam-rushes

But why is the allies original start is on the axis side  and the axis start on the allied side? What I mean is on the allied side there are nebelwerfers (which can be crewed) and pak cannons (which CANNOT be crewed -was this an error or intentional?) On the axis side there are allied  57mm at cannons and probably some other allied stuff.

It also might get a bit cramped for 2 teams to share base building in one small area.

Also, on the axis side near the bridge, there are some missing lua boxes, kind of takes you out of the coh/ww2 immersion factor.

Red Army Suggestions / Re: T-34 Deserve his fame
« on: February 14, 2010, 06:42:36 PM »
T-34 falls into the generic coh 'medium tank' class, ie; sherman, pz4, etc. Like the almighty devs said numerous times before , this isnt a mod about historical accuracy 100% nor realism, just to bring the soviets and ostheer into the generic coh world,  with full intent to keep a balance between all other factions. We should be thankful for such a massive effort and undertaking theyre trying to do to keep the balance here.

And for those who complain about historical acuraccy, 'the t-34 spam' ,  having to build a muster tent>weapons support center>and straight to tank hall, thats a better advantage for the soviets than other factions, americans have to build  barracks or wsc , and supply depot to be able to build a  vehicle depot or tank factory, Wehrmacht has it even worse with their advancing to next phase before building the next structure, brits must build lieutenant to call in support truck, then must build a captain to call in  armor truck,  and PE has more  support vehicles  with thin armor , than any real tanks (aside from the late game panther group call in). All in all , soviets have the quickest  building tech of all to get tanks.

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Music of the Ostheer
« on: February 14, 2010, 03:39:03 AM »
Stalingrad is a great movie, nicely done and portraying well the reality of war. Quite  the opposite ending, (reality!) from the happy hollywood war movie endings.

Dont forget Cross of Iron. Sure its a bit hollywood-ish,and the germans speak in english,  but its also a good film about the german point of view on the eastern front and all its UN-glory of war. It also has a good german-themed music intro.  Sgt.Steiner FTW!

Another good, obscure, german soldier oriented-film is The bunker (2001) - (not the one with anthony hopkins playing hitler, this is a newer made one). Its about agroup of german soldiers based on the western front who retreat(after the allied breakthrough at falaise) into an old, neglected bunker, but everything isnt as safe it seems on the inside.

A bit off subject, but theres another good axis-themed, italian made film about the italian point of view in the african campaign, called
El Alamein: The Line of Fire (2002)

Ostheer Suggestions / Re: Most important Ostheer characteristic?
« on: February 12, 2010, 12:56:06 PM »
A proper defensive/stranglehold doctrine that can allow the ostheer to survive  an early soviet spam rush,(and also reflects well on the  fuhrers 'no retreat-hold at all costs order, just like stalins no retreat) and most importantly, the ability for the ostheer to be able to build trenches! 1 out of 3 axis isnt bad for balancing,  brits and soviets can, so why cant ostheer at least?
