Small weapons problems, and fixes
« on: May 23, 2014, 11:42:02 AM »
Hi there,

I noticed many small problems with the small arms in the mod, many of which I'm sure have been solved or will be solved.
I've took the liberty to modify the animation files to fix some of those problems and add a little extra ;). Here is what I did:
  • Submachine guns: fixed the reload animation (which many SMGs like MP 41 or PPSh-41 lacked) plus I added the reload animations for eliw00d's StG 44
  • Rifles: fixed G43 firing animation (for some reason it has the bolt action animation) plus added the magazine reload animation for G43 and SVT-40 (and MAB 38 which is present in the game files but still unused)
  • Light machine guns: added support for the Eliw00d's light MG 42 especially (when I added the weapon it showed an odd second muzzle flash at the feet of the soldier when firing, now it is ok).
All the changes are in the zip file attached.

BTW there are some last things for the devs:
  • The PPSh "reload" sound at the end of the bursts is still kinda weird, I hope you guys fixed it for the next release.
  • The Landser MKb 42 conflicts with the 98k rifle and makes it stay after the soldier has been incapacitated or killed
I hope I didn't do anything wrong ( in that case I will delete the file immediately) and that I contribute to the mod development. :-\

I'd like to confirm that thing about the PPSh reload sound, it really sounds out of place. Maybe make it more quiet or something?
Also, don't know if it was reported before, but there seems to be some bugs with soldier model animations. Sometimes the Landser with the MKB would make a T-shaped pose (you know what I mean) instead of firing, this also happens sometimes, if I'm not mistaken, when he tries to throw a grenade or an H3. The soviet sniper's second squadmember (the one that can be added on vet 3, he spawns with no weapon) also suffers from this, especially when the snipers garrison a building: he stands in a window in a t-pose.

Unfortunately I am not familiar at all with creating new stuff such as effects and models for coh and I am just a basic-level skinner (hence the "amateur" next to "modder" in my profile). I just started to familiarize myself with the states in Object Editor to fix some weapon errors I found.

Actually there are several soviet weapon sounds that sound a bit off (too loud, sound weird etc.). I'll see what I can do about the PPSh for the next version.

Abuse is abuse and has to go.

Thanks for your support, although as far as I know, these issues were already fixed in the internal version. Just FYI, we already use the custom mp44(thought this was added some months ago so is not in the public version) and mg42 made by inukshuk and eliwood, so no need to worry about these ;).

Yours are good news, thanks! :)
I just say I was pleasantly surprised when I added the bar reload animation to the G43 and SVT-40 because their magazines worked perfectly with the new animation. I don't know if that was intentional or casual.

But I wasn't aware the ppsh43 had the reload sound after firing every round... lol. That will be fixed.

Have you ever fired a Mosin Nagant?

Lel... Well, Mosins ARE loud, but ingame they're actually louder than tanks and artillery^^ The sound level is too high compared to other rifles. I've already tweaked the mosin sounds ingame, so it'll be more in line with other infantry weapons.
