Mods on holiday?
«
on:
July 29, 2010, 01:01:14 PM »
I put an application in the 'Applications' thread well over a month ago and it still says it's 'awaiting moderation'.
There are applications that have appeared after mine - am I being ignored or should I reapply (again)?

Well if I knew that I wouldn't be so confused
I didn't know it had been deleted, should I reapply somewhere else?

To be honest I have no idea what happened to the original post.
However, as we've had 4 accepted in the past with similar credentials who unfortunately never actually produced anything for us, we somewhat re-vamped the application requirement for such a post.
In particular we'd need to see a 'piece' specifically made for EF and if it fits in, then we'll offer you a position.
This is nothing personal as such and there is no doubt of your previous work, however as I've explained through experience we need to follow this process. Saying that, I hope you can provide this so we can proceed further
Cheers!

I'm really surprised to hear that you've accepted so many people already who have not done anything - I jumped at the chance to do the music for this mod!
I'm quite happy to create a piece for you, all I need to know is what you're looking for - in reasonable detail. If you don't wish to talk about this here, email me at alexcottrellsound@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks!

So im not a Developer, but I guess I could also tell you what they are looking for.
Well, the soviets menu soundtrack already exist, what doesn't exist as yet is a soviets ingame soundtrack. I'm not sure, but I believe the current one is copied from the Panzer Elite.
So I would suggest an ingame soundtrack with the classical soviet music style, as the soviets menu soundtrack, but designed as the normal Company of Heroes ingame soundtracks. For Example no choir and no vocals, a decent but also upsetting background music.
Cheers!

I think the main menu music isn't original content though (from a film I believe? I recognise it.) It seems to me that if I'm doing in game music, I should do the menu music too - to keep the sound and feel consistent.
Obviously, classical arrangements would be the most suitable. But the devs might have their own vision for it of course.
But I digress, don't count your chickens and all that...

The best thing about the British in CoH is their ingame music. Try to create a stirring piece rather than the boring sounds of the other factions. For some reason I keep thinking about Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture while reading this thread. The way it builds to an inspiring crescendo is great.
The current menu themes are from "The Hunt for the Red October" and "Enemy at the Gates". Both great movies and soundtracks but something original would be nice. Why not trying to listen to some of the songs from the period such as "The Sacred War" or "Katyusha" for ideas.
I'm actually a huge fan of the Soviet theme from the first call of duty. That's a good one that I'm surprised the devs didn't actually use tbh.
Basically anything with lots of Brass and a dynamic string section would fit. I kinda disagree that there shouldn't be a choir but there shouldn't be any standout vocals. More just an ambient hum.

Good call on the 1812 Overture!
Thanks for the suggestions GodlikeDennis, I'll look into some more traditional stuff as well. Obviously the devs are (rightly so) concentrating on their 1.2 release at the moment so I don't mind waiting for correspondence from them.
But, everyone is more than welcome to post some suggestions of what they'd like to hear

The piece should really have the following basic criteria:
It must fit in with with the style of the current COH music (so it shouldn't sound like something that came out of WoW or C&C) and have a 'soviet feel' to it.
Have a listen to the pieces we've already added and you'll get a better idea about what we mean 'soviet feel'.
Its should also NOT be too 'aggressive' at the point where after 2nd time you hear it, your ears get tired and you want to turn the music off lol. It must be able to play in the backround without causing annoyance
So, really its up to you make a piece that captures these elements

Right-ho, I'll get on it, thanks.
Where should I sent it upon completion?
*EDIT* - Also, is this mean to be battle music? Ambient music (during quieter game periods)? Menu music?
