Nah, the z axis is the one for hight, x is for depth. I was also wondering why, and my Maths teacher told me, that the three-dimensional coordiante system uses the x/y system as a plain on the ground.

The y axis is hight in the two-dimensional coordinate system, however, it's the one for breadth in the three-dimensional one.

2dim: x=breadth
        y=height

3dim: x=depth
        y=breadth
        z=height

I'm totally sure, because I wrote an exam today with vectors and plains in three-dimensional coordinate system as subject.
