You pretty much hit it on the head yourself when you said you lost from losing squads to commander arty and map control. Personally I wouldn't have gone MG, Volk, MG. You also starting researching skirmish before getting your second volk squad which delayed it slightly. It would've been better to get it first to help you gain back some ground. Defensive was also a poor choice in my opinion, as I've had bad experiences against Soviets using defensive.
The mortar did well and you were unfortunate to lose the halftrack, though it arrived much later than it should've.
You should also never put an MG in a building against Soviets, you will simply not be able to leave in time.
Duly noted. Blitz would have been a better choice, in that case. I note with some dissatisfaction being shoehorned into using one or two doctrines only against an entire faction, whose all three doctrines are equally viable against me. Propaganda maybe a little less so, but Katyushas hurt all the same. Also, not being allowed to put MGs in buildings versus Soviets. That's very strange. That denies me from a very important strategic element, especially on this map. Anyway, the suggestions here seem to lean support squad and support vet, with pumas later. Maybe a sort of T2-T3 build. That's interesting. I will do some experimentation and come back with what I find. Thanks for the tips, everybody!

Hello, I went for a T2 Defensive build with a pretty standard Pio-Pio-MG-Volks-MG-Volks build, hoping to get T2 pretty quickly for Mortars and Halftracks to counter the Soviets, but I was pushed off the map too quickly and ended up with a serious dearth of firepower and fuel. When I finally had fuel to burn, it was too little too late as all my MP was used reinforcing weak squads.
Sometimes I lost a squad to Commander arty, either because my cursor was stuck on mortar bombardment selection (my fault, I could have just pressed escape) or because the smoke didn't pop (second time).
Any help on beating the Soviet rush would be appreciated. Thanks!

but I'd rather not want anyone to talk about neo-nazi's or make comparisons with them... just keep it to the topic, and, just for once, keep your opinion to yourself.
I'm sorry if I offended you. His tone of voice suggested supreme nazi love affairs.

just to remind everyone talking about this topic, and those who might join us later on: the question, why did Germany lose on the Eastern Front, must be answered, and discussed, nothing more.... just make your own topic about it. the German forces had both major advantages and disadvantages, just like the Soviets. Although I'd like to say politics had nothing to do with the outcome, its the last thing i find true about the eastern front. however, what happend is unforgivable, and should never been forgotten.... nor underestimated, or changed. what happend on the Eastern Front, why it happend, and how it happend, that's our topic, not only the way both sides treated the civilians in the occupied territories.
just to make it clear: both Germans and Soviets didn't treated the civilians properly, the way i see it: whatever you say, whatever you do, these things happend, and even if you say one side committed the greatest crimes, both sides still committed crimes against humanity.
I spy with my little eye German apologism. The Holocaust was a far, far worse crime than the Soviet purges. You must factor in the motive - to this end, the concentrated removal of an entire ethnic group on the grounds of racial supremacy is dangerous in deed as well as thought. Calculated evil is worse than mindless evil, by and far.

I'd actually seen an interview of an old panther tank commander(he had practically lost all of his teeth )
He himself confessed that the t-34 was a formidable and excellent tank(his actual words were " i had never had seen a tank like this before , the shell we fired just slipped of the front armor , it was the best tank that we had ever faced")
The t-34 used a old design V-12 from a world war 1 plane and was robust and easy to mantain, whereas the german panther had sophisticated and complicated engineering built into it hence it was prone to breakdowns.
I find this all hard to believe. Not only is the Panther commander story far-fetched (Panthers outperformed T-34s in every conceivable way) but the specs are wrong: it was the V-2 engine, not the V-12, and the V-2 was not used in any WW1 planes. Tico's absolutely right, the T-34 had a lot of very good ideas (sloped armor among them) but it was not the be-all end-all tank, and certainly not the one reason the Soviets reigned supreme at the end of the war.

Well I guess that explains why Germany lost the war.

The Kampfgruppe Lehr were probably a direct comparison of the Panzer lehr Division. This was an Elite Whermacht division that, with Grossdeuchland Divisiond, was Hitlers favourite Whermacht divisions. The Waffen SS where much more elite however, and every SS soldier vowed to die for Germany. In fact, during the Battle of Berlin, the Waffen SS were telling the Whermacht infantry to give them their weapons, but the Whermacht denied and shot the Waffen SS soldier. This was a great dishonour to Nazi Germany in its final days because the Waffen SS would of fought to death, whereas those Wehrmacht soldiers would of surrendered. The Waffen SS would not of been given the Wehrmachts "hand-me-downs" because they would of been given the best equipment first, in fact, a SS Soldier would of been given blood before a dying Whermacht soldier, that is why the SS had their blood types tattoo'ed on their wrists. So the PE was definetly not the Waffen SS.
What the hell is this babble? I demand sources, all of this seems highly unlikely (and phrased like a neo-Nazi would).

I am shocked - shocked - to see Kar98k winning this poll. The Lee-Enfield was by and far a superior rifle, from its inception to its used in the second World War.

Even if you only got him to move I would say that the unit succeeded no? That wall was the only thing allowing him to destroy you so easily. On the open field your units would've been much more effective than his. An actual hit would've decimated those squads. You could've used it against his mortar as well once it hit the field, but you could'nt have known about that one before you purchased it.
Can we see the flipside to this? What would you do as Soviets and a Wehr player did this to you? In addition, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the USSR mortar (un-upgraded) already does 1.5x damage in comparison to the Wehrmacht mortar Correct. The USSR mortar is 120mm and therefore has a larger blast radius + damage over the Wehr mortar. The mortar upgrade further improves this capability.

@ Dennis
Thanks for the tips! I've been brainstorming ways to beat Soviets as Wehr in this patch, and I kept turning up empty. I ran into Vet4Cantonese, and as Soviets he trounced me in a 2v2. This game we were in a reverse position to see what weight skill had, if any.
I find it curious that I was able to exert far less effort than he was, to much greater effect. Thanks for posting your review, the info on the Halftrack and Mortar is valuable metagame and I will be sure to keep it in mind. I hope the patch comes soon though because the NKVD bug and PTRD over-usefulness need addressing to make this game worthy in 1v1 again!

Of course it is, Loup, don't be silly. Jeez.

Exactly. Like bazookas. Bad accuracy, but a hit is an auto-kill!
We call those insta-gibs and they aren't reliable tactically speaking. I support nerfing PTRDs versus infantry for exactly that reason.

Why is this important? Wehr and PE speak German-accented English. Russian-accented English is pretty cool IMO.

No offense, but do any of you rank at least 10 on the 1v1 leaderboards? The discussion I am hearing so far implies not.
Back in the day I was a level 12 Ami and a level 11 Wehr. Back in the day, that is. I'm level 9 Ami and level 10 Wehr now. Not impressive per se but I see what you're getting at. I'm hoping that this Mod will be able to accommodate those players more interested in meticulous strategizing that Company of Heroes became famous for. Also, Wehr Puma rush is no big shake. This game is pretty well balanced IMO (although in my experience, it's easier to get the ball rolling as Wehrmacht).

BigBear I don't think you can ask "when is release" followed by "its getting tiresome...don't you have a deadline" and then throw in a "no offense".
I'll echo Crezth that greatness takes time.
And don't forget...all the devs are spending their own time, for free, building a public mod that all of us will get hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of. I think the least we can all do is be understanding, supportive, and anxiously optimistic about the project.
ps. fingers crossed for an x-mas release!
wow your a total hipocrate!
Nope, he's not. He'd be a hypocrite if he then proceeded to grill the devs, but he didn't. He expressed hope for a Christmas release is all. You see, he wasn't criticizing BigBear's hoping for a Christmas release - we all want that - he was criticizing BigBear's attitude which he perceived as a little entitled.
