Updating from scratch is a pain
« on: April 15, 2010, 09:44:20 PM »
your download link should be current but instead you have to get it, update the launcher, then the patching server is down 80% of the time so you have to search for the one thread with the manual patches. The whole point in the beginning was to make this mod easier to update than all the others and yet the autoupdate fails to work and the manual is buryed deep in the bowls of the forum. I have had to reinstall this on 3 computer and its always the same, then you wonder why there are no newer players.

We're aware of this, it should be sorted with the next patch.
Patch 1.05 will be the new base for all new EF downloads (so newbs are automatically patched to 1.05 without any additional downloading), we will also release a 1.00-1.05 launcher and manual patch for all those who don't want to download the entire thing again. We're going to make Patching via the launcher automatic (unless the option is turned off) for any future patches. We don't want to make it compulsory (although we'd like to) because this may piss some people off.

Hopefully it'll solve version issues and make online play easier.

This is truly excellent news.

Will there be multiple update servers to ensure some redundancy in this regard moving forward?

Also, has relic ever indicated if their torrent client could be used for mods as well as core product updates?

Writing their own basic torrent client shouldn't be too difficult.

And yes, this is very excellent news.

yes a torrent type setup that even relic has is best, users help users and not a major pain to the devs
