Retreat to Command Squad
« on: August 25, 2010, 06:36:19 PM »
What about a retreat to Command Squad ability like the Brits have (Retreat to Captain)? That way even the medic truck would make sense compared to a stationary medic bunker.
On large maps it takes a lot of time retreating units back to the base, reinforcing and then getting them back to battle.
All other factions have mobile reinforcement through Inf HT. Even the Brits can move their command vehicles if they really want to.
With a Retreat to Command Squad ability things would be a little more balanced in my opinion.

Potential for abuse. If he gets the command squad behind your lines with heroic charge and retreats all his squads there...
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.

Then you mercilessly crush them.. I think its a good idea. By the time my squad is reinforced at my hq the battles over... Perhaps a better idea is retreat to medic truck? Those are so weak and slow you could kill them before they got anywhere important.

I normally don't but this time I got to agree with Dennis on this one. remember when OF first came out? Brits driving their bus into someones main with all their inf running behind it. Comical as hell. If there is an exploit someone will find it. yea I have to amend my first post, it would be abused.

IMHO retreat to medic truck sounds even better then retreat to Command Squad. And no sane player will drive his medic truck directly into German AT guns.
And if any German player is afraid that Soviets will gain an unfair advantage with this ability you could increase reinforcement costs slightly.

Did a medic truck even had a radio? Why should the Soviets retreat there? This makes no sense. Rraising the reinforcement cost for the Soviets? Another idea that would make Soviets less Sovietish.

With a Command Squad having global vet its important to have it on the field as much as possible. This unit is nothing like a Captain.

But it does make sense that you have a munition upkeep on the medic track? I learned in other threads that this game is not about reality...
Having a place to retreat to within field would help keep the soviets in combat at the front.

Yes this is a game. But if you can add anything because its a game why not add the Rattle or the Maus or make Volks super infantry that invented super weapons.

This game is to represent WW2. Its just that we have to make some tweaks to help the balance. So keep it as real as you can.
The Russians think there sooo tough, wait till the Ostheer comes...

Retreating Brits to Capitain makes sense- their infantry is ridciously expensive, and slow. Soviets are totally different. Its a lot of them, they are cheap as chips. Often the only thing that makes Wehr winning firfights is the fact that soviet inbfantry will die or retreat far away enough to let the wehr player to gather his forces and take a breath. If they could retreat out of the range ant then instantly came back to fight it would make wehr player's position miserable, due to fact that his enemies never end.

I like the idea of the medic truck as a retreat point.
