45 mm soviet at gun
« on: December 28, 2010, 05:57:07 PM »
It is widely known, that at the wake of the GPW (Reich's offensive  against the SU) german army, including the Ostheer as well  ;), hadn't any really heavy tanks, which mostly entered the war scene at 1943 and later on. It is also known that, though 57 mm gun was already in service, it wasn't majorly popular in the Red army artillery ranks, for it proved to be more than was actually needed. The main field AT artillery 'till 1943 was performed by quite famous 45 mm AT field gun, that received a nickname "sorokopiatka" (marking it's calibre), which was quite effective against light panzers, used by the Ostheer at the time. After the presentation of heavy panzers to the battlescene this gun became obsolete as an effective AT, but was still used as a light common field artillery
So the suggestion is: since the re-crewing bug is finally fixed to every CoH lover's joy, and thus soviets don't really need any more "meat-shield upgrades", why not replace the pre-upgrade 57 mm gun with this 45 mm one, making a 57 mm gun appear only after upgrade. The upgrade doesn't necessarily need to completely replace that 45 mm gun, but may simply add an option of building a heavier one.
The model is not a problem.

Willing to hear any constructive thoughts and\or arguments

The interesting thing about the ZiS-2 gun is that the Soviet generals belived that they didnt need a gun as powerfull as it (witch was true till 1942) and they decided to mass produce 45mm guns instead. Thats why Soviet 57mm were so rare.

+1 I want to see a 45mm gun. (Im more interesting in seeing nerfs to pen. and range stats of this early gun and lowering its upgrade cost, than just seeing new skins).
I also like to ask: what hapended to the PAK 36 (Wehrmacht reward unit that can replace the PAK 38)? No skin?

The PAK36 was pulled out from the patch because it just didnt feel right.

Interesting suggestion, but I guess dev are  too busy with Ostheer (and balance patch) to work -again- on SU. Wait and see, but Ostheer seem to take all the attention at the moment  ;)

The pak 36 hasn't been dropped yet afaik.

Perhaps could be a reward unit for ZiS-2.

Then it would need a cloak ability (like pack 38), or else it would be a downgrade, I suppose.
