HERESY: 1946!
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:35:49 PM »
I am aware the idea is an EF Heresy and that the DevTeam may have me molotoved in an Auto de Fe. I have heard time and again that EF is neither a Historical game or a Simulation. I strongly disagree. HOWEVER; The Pershing appears in CoH, and the ISU3 in EF. I think the idea of Heavy Tanks under development during the war should be considered for inclusion as Rewards Units. (Not super heavies like the you know what). Two tanks I would like to see are the Brits' Centurion and the German Panther 2. HERESY! My rational is this:
  • Heavy tank duels are fun.
  • The decision point in many games is reached before the Heavies get much play. During a match it could be arranged that when one side concedes a hopeless position a heavy tank duel could be arranged to extend and cap the game.
  • The EF DevTeam has violated its own unit inclusion table and Historical Relevance policy twice with the T90 and ISU3. What is two more?
  • Whether or not I like it EF is not a historical simulation. It is a game. Every map included in EF reflects a historic battle. That's the rules, I didn't make it up. If the Sovs had lost at Moscow, Stalingrad or Kursk the war would have been exntended to 1946 or beyond. (Hence the notion of Panther 2). Ever had that happen in the game?  :)
In the unlikely event this concept were to to be adopted; I would like to see one additional addition. Each model should be based on the design stats of the tank in question, or subsequent performance. IIRC somewhere in these threads it was stated the ISU3 is a knock-off of the Pershing with a new skin. Don't know if its true but the revolutionary armor design of the ISU3 was superior to the Pershing, hands down. BTW Great job on the ISU3 skin. Its so much prettier than the ISU2.  8)

That's not a rule written in stone, however we need to looks what we are going to include. Relic didn't followed history perfectly, the same that we will try to mimic (afaik) without including units that would never fit in the current gameplay (MAUS and other similar prototype tanks).

The problem with the Centurion, is that doesn't fit too well on Brits, let alone that we don't have a model and Ostheer stuff has priority.

About the Panther 2, we were discussing about it but was better received the idea of give Ostheer's Panther a Schmalturm turret upgrade. Would be available after getting Improved Supply from Army Fortress Troops and it's cost would reflect their status on WW2 (only a very few tanks were equipped with this) but it won't be tagged with a crazy price either. Of course this is just an idea that rose due to the IS3 inclusion.

It would be cool to have a Henschel Turret KT along with at least one of these critters :P.

EDIT: The IS-3 is a different model, statwise is a re-skinned IS-2 with Pershing vet values and IS-2 vet requirements and slightly better armour.

Brits don't need Centurion IMO because they already have the Comet as a late war tank. I don't know what to think about Panther II/Schmalturm though  :-\

Including the Panther II would be too much, there wasn't a single model finished. I think that's a No-No.

Only the Panther II projects exist. ;)

The Panther II never really made it off the assembly line...I don't think it should be included.

While I will agree with the No Panther II, I would certainly love to see the Centurion on the field. It was in fact deployed onto Europe similar to the Pershing, but not early enough to take part in any European battles. We got nothing to replace it with though, except perhaps the Churchy Croc.

I actually recommend this for closing. Like Neos said the Centurion really doesn't have a place in the British army unless it was a reward for the Croc...Comet is already a reward unit for the Firefly...

And the Panther II is out of the question. Wasn't even produced at all.
