Infantry Balance
« on: July 22, 2012, 09:22:21 PM »
I've started playing coh  ef as russian a month now,in my opinion the infantry balance for soviet troops is not good at all for example 1 unit of red stelky banner with pps
got butchered by a volks squad 3rd veterancy with mp,similar examples come with naval units, now i know that they are higher in numbers than the germans but they are getting butchered VERY easily it's hard to make a stand, however i found that tanks and support units are perfectly made.

Got a replay? RBS with PPSH vs vet3 Volks with MP40 is a close fight but I think RBS still might win. Im tempted to say volks. Maybe the volks had cover advantge or RBS were wounded? A replay really helps ur argument.

The man has a point 5VG and 5Strelky plus bannerman on the face of it is a pretty even fight. Ignoring the disparity in research and upgrade costs. I think that if you only have one RB Strelky though it is advisable to go the DP28 route and take on the Volks at a distance. A one on one match-up is risky at the best of times. I wouldn't attack with less then a 1.6 to 1 superiority in "rifles in CoH. And level3 vet did you say? I would play with the soviets a little longer than a month just to find out what they can do before I worried about balance.

The matchup is balanced in an even fight. PPSh are generally better because they have stronger moving modifiers and therefore better for attacking the enemy. Volks will smash Strelky if the Strelky are forced to charge into them however. If the enemy gets MP40 volks, get DP-28. Against MGs, get PPSh. This seems like a L2P issue. Don't charge MP40 volks. In future, supply a replay that demonstrates your balance concern.

If rbs are a close match for volks which is a dispensable unit showing only early in the game how can i beat regular grenadeers and then what about knights cross holders?and how about panzer grenadeers with mp44?
will i have to create guards considering the manpower?i don't know it does not seem right.Anyways just sharing my thoughts.

They are used differently. MP40s are extremely powerful when stationary but can't attack well at all due to extremely low moving accuracy modifiers. PPShs are much better for assaulting enemy positions including MG42s, PGs, Grens and unupgraded volks etc. If you find yourself against lots of MP40s it's best to get DP-28s where you will force them to charge you or be destroyed at range. Same goes for MP44s. If you force him to charge, then stationary PPShs of your own will be very powerful. This is why RBS unlocks both weapon sets. It's not just for spamming one type but using them in combination depending on your enemy's forces.

And lets not forget the volks were vet 3 and Im assuming the RBS hand vet0. So although they arent necessarily superior they are alot more durable than u make them out to be.

Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't MP 44's actually better while moving? So charging in with them wouldn't be like charging with MP 40's

Nothing is ever better when moving compared to stationary. Except Airborne armor :P. IIRC COH wiki says its better but I forgot the technical reason why.

I'd look it up if CoH stats still existed. That place was way too useful and now it's dead   :'(

Moving MP44s have 75% moving accuracy and a 1.5 burst modifier. Essentially, you're losing bupkis in terms of accuracy and firing 50% more bullets. Charge dem' MP44s around and don't stop moving.

Volksinator has it right about MP44s.

Airborne armour has a 0.75 moving accuracy modifier for most weapons. This is similar to Pumas. So if something is trying to target the Puma or Airborne troops, they have more of a chance to miss. This gives them a survivability advantage to staying on the move but will be far less accurate themselves as well.

You're right, MP44s have 75% moving accuracy compared to 50% for most US submachines, most soviet weapons have 40-50%, so they deal 25% more damage while moving. Volks have 20% moving accuracy (=80% less damage if you move your Volks around.

However, no matter if you get 20% or even 75%, it's still less than than 100% of the stationary squad you're fighting against..
