« on: October 30, 2012, 09:44:33 PM »
Hello, I've heard about you making them as the new team and CoH 2 will feature them but i looked it up on the internet to learn about them(Never of heard of them before CoH) and the only stuff that pops up is Eastern Front mod pages about it and i was wondering was it a group like the Wehrmacht or is it like meaning something specific in German? Sorry i know more about Western Front WW2(more interesting  to me that Eastern Front).

Soooo yeah try not to flame me too bad for being such an idiot. Thanks.

Hm... Interesting i never knew that. I always thought there was just Heer, Luftwaffe, and Kriegsmarine. Didn't know they split the Heer into two sides for the different fronts.

Ostheer translates literally to "East(ern) Army" or "Army of the East" (Ostarmee or Ostheer). The Germans, especially the military, are famous for their compound words; Falschirmjagergewehrzweiundvierzig (Paratrooper rifle 42, or FG42), Panzerabwehrkanone (tank/armor defense gun/cannon, which you know as PaK, or PaK 38 in-game) and so on are a couple of examples. Even their military nomanclature is outrageously overcomplicated by Western standards: 16.RFSS-PzG-Div/16.SS-Pz-Aufklärungs-Abt. SdKfz 234 'Puma' Schwere Panzerspähwagen translates directly(ish) to "16th SS Panzer Reconnaissance Abteilung (Battalion), 16th SS Division Das Reich Sdkfz 234 'Puma' Heavy Armored Scout Car". Mouthfull, eh?

Well...German "military terms" are complicated for non-german-speaker xD
Out of my view (german is my mother tongue) the structure is quiet logical.

But okay; back to topic. Ostheer is an historical term. Soldiers and officers used them
to differ the fronts. U wont find this name at the military structure. It is just a "
Landser term" but it fits perfect here ^^
May the force be with you.

It was a loose term referring to the German forces on the eastern front. Heer means "army" in German, Wehrmacht meant "military" or all branches combined, so if anything Wehr in vCoH should be called Heer, or Westheer, or Westen Heer.

Internally in the files it's actually called "Heer", but the word that got into peoples mouth was Wehrmatch, so they went with popular opinion.
