What's missing
« on: October 22, 2011, 07:52:51 PM »
As it stands the game is as balanced and entertaining as it can; however there are some units that could improve gameplay.

USA
- replace 105mm Howitzer with the 155mm "Long Tom" Howitzer emplacement limited to 1; either up its damage or range since it was a more powerful gun than the 105
- replace off-map battlegroup with the 105mm Priest, since it was an american SPG

British
- replace 105mm Priest with the british Sexton 25 pounder, limited to 3

Soviet
- replace God of War with the SU-14, limited to 3 or 2 if you want it to be historically accurate

Panzer Elite
- add the 105mm Wespe limited to 3, under sector artillery

As you can see all of these suggestions are artillery related. Tanks and inantry are, for the most part, balanced as they are.

Well the Eastern Front mod wont make any faction changes to the vCoh factions, and GOW I feel is fine as it is. However, that doesn't mean some of these may appear as reward units.

Static Artillery emplacements won't get a reward unit, reward units are primarily reserved for vehicles.

Wespe is in Ostheer.

Priest, a brit doctrinal unit, for USA and a prototype for the soviets? Are you sure?
Wespe is already part of Ostheer.

SU-14 wasn't exactly a prototype per say, since it actually saw action... as much action as an artillery piece can see on a battlfield. Shooting from 30 km away isn't exactly exciting stuff. And the reason I included some additions to US and british sides is because obviously as with any new faction, the old ones get played less and less... unless I'm mistaken.

I don't know, I just feel like the soviets are missing a heavy SPG, perhaps its just me...

You mean, like the ISU-152?  ::)

CoH is not an artillery focused game. There are several support options for arty but most reward units will take the form of direct combat vehicles. Also, changing off-map combat group to a SP howitzer is an unacceptable vCoH gameplay change. Also, the doc already has a buildable howitzer so it would be superfluous.

+1, so it does not have to be added to any other faction.
and sector arty is part of SE doctrine. which means hummel and wespe in the same doctrine. it's hard to afford the pop for 3 hummels, if i want to have both wespe and hummel i can't build many more units and why would i use a weaker hummel if i can get the real one  ???

sorry, but SU-14 was a prototype (1 or maybe 2 were built -> like Maus and we all know if it will be added  :P)

adding a few arty pieces doesn't make the vCoH factions all new. and to be honest, the more arty is ingame the more it becomes a "camp and arty game". that's why most hate the brits. people play factions not because they are new but because they like them as they are. and they are quite balanced now, adding these units will require new balancing ::)

-> pls lock it

Jagd[tiger] is a buildable replacement for the Kettenkrad... It can cloak and cap points. :P

So break the norm. Make a poll, let the players decide: heavy SPG for the soviets... numbers never lie!

And again, maybe I'm mistaken, but with the coming of a new faction the old ones need some updates, some polishing to give the players some incentive to play them, especialy the US and british sides which are already played less. Some reward units, eyecandy if nothing else.

How would this improve gameplay? What's the problem now with the doctrine/ability?

Quote
British

How would this improve gameplay? What's the problem now? What would the difference be?

Soviet
- replace God of War with the SU-14, limited to 3 or 2 if you want it to be historically accurate

Why replace an off map ability with an on map/ Aren't there enough artillery tanks as it is? What exactly will this improve?

Panzer Elite

Isn't that practically the same as a 'Hummel'? Why would you have the same thing? For the sake of adding a model? How exactly would this improve gameplay of the faction?

I get the distinct feeling that its all about cramming in as many new models as possible for the sake of 'looks' and has nothing to do with improving game play. A wishlist perhaps...having hundreds of different looking models to choose from for eye candy....nothing to do with its effect on gameplay (number of units can only be so much before ruining balance and eliminating all character from the factions as they all have the same units albeit in different visual form .
